The Untouched Heart

The Untouched Heart
Chapter 66 - Not Going Far

~Hendra~

It broke my heart to see my wife sobbing on the floor. But I'm not lying. I hate him so much at this point. I wouldn't say sweet to him just to make him feel good. Because I hate it every time I see it. His eyes, his lips, his hands, everything in his body had been given to another man.

What's in that guy that I don't have? How could my wife still love him after so many years apart from him? Why can't the me in front of her eyes touch her heart at all?

To avoid an unimportant quarrel that would only hurt us both, I left. This time I didn't go out of town. I just bought an apartment and it's a good time to stay there for a while. But no one knows.

I finished all the work on my laptop and cell phone. Any document that needs my signature is just a digital signature. For the cooperation document, I waited until I finished secluding myself to sign it directly.

My phone is shaking, I glanced at the screen. “What's up?” ask the caller.

“Bapak has been hard-earned to get this cooperation, why are the documents not signed immediately, sir? What if they decide to cancel this partnership?” asked Sherry with a worried tone.

“No problem. I'll sign it later when I get back.”

“But, Sir,” said again.

“Do not contact me to discuss unimportant matters. You just have to take care of the administration. Company business is my business.”

“But Mr. Adhyana could be furious if we lose this project, sir,” urged again. I will be scolded by Papa if something goes wrong, why is he the one who is afraid?

“I end the phone.” I kept the phone away from my ear and touched the red phone symbol. No one can control how I handle my work. He is just a secretary.

As soon as the work hours were over, I turned off the laptop. The atmosphere outside was still bright, so I decided to go out after days of confining myself in the apartment. There are many malls, restaurants, cafes, as well as office buildings around the apartment building. I wasn't hungry yet, so I chose to enter a fairly crowded cafe.

After receiving my order, I chose one of the rows of chairs on the table facing the window. I enjoyed a cup of coffee with a sandwich while looking at the traffic crowd after work. A routine that fortunately I did not need to face for the past few days.

A group of officers approached the entrance, one of them caught my attention. I don't know why he keeps looking at me. When I met her, I understood. Vivaldo. Why is he always where I am?

“Self?” Of course he won't let me do what I want without being bothered by him. “Didn't an important person like you usually have meetings with business friends after business hours like this?” I just kept quiet.

He sat on an empty chair by my side. “If I were you, I would definitely prefer to go home and spoil my beautiful wife. Are you tired of it because you prefer to drink coffee while daydreaming here?” I'm still quiet.

“One more word, you will regret ever meeting me today.” I waited and right, he finally kept quiet.

“You think I'm afraid of you? I'm not the same person anymore, Mahendra. I won't stay silent anymore seeing you snatch what should be mine.” He stood up and went somewhere, I don't care. Not afraid of me, he said? The challenge I accept.

I've collected all the evidence of corruption and misappropriation of funds he did with his superiors. It was easy for me to report it, but I waited for the right moment. And I'll give him a chance to change. No longer bothering my wife and no longer playing around with money that is not her right.

My stomach was hungry, so I walked to the nearest restaurant. I started to miss the food. Fahri's cooking was no better than the chef at my parents' house, but my tongue was used to the food he made.

The table shook, I looked towards my phone. There's an incoming message. I checked and was surprised to see a message from Za. He told me what he was doing all day. He met up with his friends and there was one shocking news from Qiana that he could not tell through messages. I would usually call her to answer my curiosity. But I put the phone down and didn't care about any news.

“Kak Hendra?” A voice I knew very well greeted me. I turned my head and saw Zach and Rasmi standing by my desk. I don't know why today the world seems so small to me.

“Why can Big Brother be here?” Zach looked around us confused.

“Honey, I'm going to the toilet for a second. Can't take it anymore. I left for a while, Brother,” the official statement that immediately gave his bag to Zach and then rushed towards the back of the restaurant.

Zach looked towards Rasmi until the girl was far enough away then sat on the chair in front of me. I already know what he's gonna ask. “Say Brother Ara, Brother there is work outside the city. Why is Brother even here?”

“You know that I never want to discuss my personal life with anyone, ‘kan?” I said avoid answering that question. He looked at me for a moment.

“What's up? What is Brother Ara doing that has made Brother so annoying like this? Brother never sewot when talking to me,” asked full search.

“Don't use your interrogation techniques on me. I'm not your client,” reject me. He rolled his eyes thinking my words were ridiculous.

“I am the legal representative of your company. So, yes, Brother is my client,” he said reminded.

“I have the right not to answer your question it.” I'm insisting. This time he looked at me carefully.

“My brother is stupid. What other mistakes did he make?” He rubbed his forehead. I just kept quiet and continued eating. The trouble between me and my wife is enough we both know. Others will not understand.

On that Sunday, I returned home after being away for two weeks. My wife greeted me as usual but a little different. His face looks so happy. My chest feels pain seeing it. Za, are you really happy to see me go home or are you just pretending to be happy living with me because of the covenant letter?
