Oh, dearGod. The treatment should be that extreme? Can't chemotherapy be just? Isn't stage two not dangerous and can still be treated without surgery? Mama did not want to see a doctor and treat her illness.
I can't imagine if one of my breasts had been taken from my body. Maybe I'll do what Mom did. But I have children who are small. No. gabe. I'm not leaving them that fast. I will do everything to stay with them longer.
“Tante, post-surgery can still be done surgery to improve the state of the body Aunt. No one will ever know that one of Aunt's paladara has been appointed. Health is much more important, Auntie. Is Aunt not sad to leave Om this soon?” I tried to persuade him. He looks doubtful. “Aunty's health condition will decrease if the cancer is left. Does Auntie not worry someday will lie down and not be able to get up again?”
“You don't scare me,” he said angrily. Realizing that my efforts were working, I tried again.
“I have to do it because the disease is very serious. When the situation gets worse, the aunt will feel pain in the chest most of the day. When the cancer spreads, it could be that Aunt's lungs are also eaten by malignant tumors. Even from what I read, the cancer can spread to the brain, Auntie.” I slowly walked closer to him.
“A-I'm scared,” he said slowly, barely whispering.
“I'll accompany aunty on medication. We can find other options by seeing another oncology specialist.” His eyes looked at me expectantly as soon as he heard that there was still another possibility that we could take to treat his illness. “Om and Hendra don't need to know this. But when they make a decision, they need to know. We can't hide this forever from them.”
He looked the other way. “A-I'll think about it first.”
“Can't, Aunt. The treatment has been delayed for over a month. Aunty can no longer postpone it,” urges me. He frowned. “I'll pick up Auntie tomorrow morning. We go to the doctor together?”
Mom took a slow breath. He looked towards me. “Good. Please, don't tell Adhy, don't tell Hendra too,” the door begs.
“He won't know. I'll let Auntie tell them.” I touched her hand and was grateful to see her not pulling herself out of my touch. “Tante will be fine.” Mama nodded slowly.
After Mama tidied herself up and wiped her tears, she invited me out of the room. He walked to keep his distance from me, but I did not complain. She was a strong woman who always tried to stand on her own feet, so I didn't hold her hand or let her lean on me.
The door of the room I was about to enter opened, the men started to exit while chatting casually with the fellow beside them. When they saw us, they invited us through, but we waited until they all came out.
“Lo? The darling? What are you doing here?” asked Papa who saw us standing not far from the door. He looked at me and was confused as to what he should behave like.
“You don't have to be disinclined so just because it keeps my feelings, Adhy. You can say hello to your son-in-law.” Mama shook her head slowly. Papa smiled happily.
“Hai, Zahara. You and my wife just had a fight or you pulled each other's hair on the toilet?” He looked in the direction from which we came. There is a toilet for the employees. My mom and I laughed when they heard it.
“Om will never know because we have improved our appearance,” I replied. “Ah, I'm going to Hendra's office. Om and Aunt would like to go home now.” They simultaneously nodded. I slightly lowered my body, then turned towards the elevator.
“Ah, Zahara?” My mother's voice called me. I stopped my steps and turned towards them again. “If you and Hendra don't have an event, would you like to have dinner with us?” I can't believe what I just heard.
“Zahara? Did you hear me?” Mama touched my arm, pulled me from my daydream. “Do you guys want dinner with us?”
“A, ten-of course, Auntie,” I replied quickly. I smiled happily. “I'll tell Hendra now. We meet at the restaurant?”
“Iya. Steak restaurant subscription us.” Mom looked towards Papa. Seeing that, Papa nodded in understanding, then took out his phone. He will definitely reserve a place because we will not get an empty table if we do not order from now on.
A manager who was in training helped me use the elevator. He scanned his business card, then pressed the top floor button. I can't hide my smile. I am so happy to be eating with my two in-laws again. My heart even thumped with pleasure.
I quickly stepped into Hendra's study. Gista welcomed my arrival by standing up and opening the door for me. I thanked him and did not get angry to see the faces of the children clad in chocolate, cheese and whatever else they ate.
“What's up, baby?” Hendra stood up from the sofa as I walked over to him. I didn't answer, just squandered into his arms. I hugged him very tightly. He's laughing a little. “OK. You're making me very confused. What's the matter?”
“Try guess what just happened today?” I raised my face so that I could look at her, without letting go of my embrace.
“Mama invites us to dinner together!” cheers happy.
“Mama? Mama is here? How do I know that this happy face of yours has something to do with Mama?” He rolled his eyeballs. I laugh.
“Come, quickly get ready. We ate at my favorite restaurant!” happy say. I let go of my arms so I could help Hadi and Dira clean up. Hendra held my body and kissed me. I laughed happily. “Honey, stop!”
“What are you doing? How did Mama get so bad? I put in a lot of effort over the last five years and not a single effort has worked.” He looked at me with amazement. I smiled meaningfully.
“What hard work do you mean by forcing, opposing, and resisting all of your words to you?” my guess. He avoided my eyes. I laugh. “It is worth your efforts in vain. Come on, get your work done. I'll take the kids to the toilet.”
He kissed my lips once again. “OK. I'll do my job for a while, then we go.”
After changing the clothes of the children in the car, we got out and walked towards the restaurant. Dira was in Hendra's arms, while I held Hadi's hand. My husband mentioned Papa's name and the waiter drove us to the table where they were.
Papa asked Hadi to sit by his side. He looked at me waiting for my response. I smiled, then nodded, allowing him to sit next to his grandfather. Hendra helped her to sit down. He sat next to Mama and Dira was between us. The table was round, so we could face each other without having to turn our bodies.
We ordered each of our favorite meals. I help Hadi to choose his food, while for Dira, I will share my food with him. I'm sure they won't be able to eat much after two afternoon snacks.
“It's been a long time since we didn't eat together like this,” said Papa happily. He looked towards Mama. “You must have had the wrong lunch at home. I'll raise our chef's salary.” Mama looked at Papa in disbelief. Hendra and I laughed.
“If you keep teasing me like this, we better just go home now,” said Mama pretended to be angry. Papa laughs. He looked towards Hadi.
“Are you in school?” ask Papa.
“Already, Grandpa. I'm a student of Kindergarten A. My teacher Miss Jane. My classmate Colin. My principal Mr. Wilbur Lewis,” he said proudly. Papa laughs.
“Who taught you to answer like this? You answered enough already. I see,” says Grandpa.
“Pak Will asked me to answer so. He said, to help promote our school as well,” Hadi replied honestly.
“I have to make calculations with him. How could he teach his students to answer such a complete question?” hendra said slowly. I laughed amusedly.
“Tante Naava?” someone said from behind me. Everyone looked in the direction of the sound. “What is Aunt and Om doing? How can you eat with this cheap lady?” I saw Hendra's face turn a dead red.
