“You know for yourself that Mama and I don't talk anymore. I wasn't sent off when I helped him until he recovered, I'm grateful. I did not expect a miracle to happen in an instant, then my relationship and Mama suddenly returned to how it was.” I'm pouting.
“Your relationship will not return to how it was. Instead, your relationship with Mama will be stronger than the previous one,” he said so confidently. I looked towards him. What makes him have such a big trust?
“Why did you say that?” ask me to tell you what I think.
“Because of our relationship so too.” He smiled, then kissed my lips.
According to Mama's request, I came to their house the next day at lunchtime. We ate together, then I accompanied Mama to do her light gymnastics. Just sitting down for a while, he was already asleep. I adjusted the air conditioning temperature so that the room didn't overheat before going downstairs.
Papa was playing with Dira when I entered the living room. Television aired one of the children's films, but their views were on the stuffed animals my daughter brought. They spoke as if the puppet was alive and could understand their conversation. I smiled hearing Dira's vocabulary grow again.
“He's asleep?” ask Papa. I nodded slowly. “Good. He often forces himself to stay awake when he is actually very sleepy.”
“Everything's okay, Pa? There was a problem with Mama's left chest during the shower this morning?” aska I want to know. I sat on the carpet with them. Papa is a very good and painstaking husband. I never thought that she would take care of Mama without the help of a nurse or anyone else.
“Everything is fine. I keep the stitches dry. Even now it has become easier since the hose was taken.” Papa smiles. She looked at the door and whispered, “But that doesn't mean your mama didn't complain from me undressing her until she helped her in clean clothes.”
“I can already imagine it.” I smile.
“You know what is the happiest on this day?” ask Papa. I waited until Papa told me. “No more talks about Nora. Finally, the girl is gone from our lives for good.”
“Papa don't be happy first. There will be a new woman that Mama will choose to bring closer to Hendra. Mama hasn't forgiven me, even started offering me to approach her doctor.” I shuddered slowly. Papa laughed a little.
“I've been married to him for a long time, but every day there are always new surprises that make me wonder, who this woman I married is actually.” Papa laughed amusedly. “They are all right. There will be no words to know enough even though we dated a long time with our lover before marrying him.”
“Papa dating Mama?” I've never known about it before. Papa nodded.
“We were in a relationship for five years before I proposed to her and were sure to marry her. Naava has been signaling for a long time, but I'm waiting. She loves her job so much and I don't want to force her to leave the thing she likes just for the sake of marrying me,” said Papa whose eyes glared far away.
“What does Papa mean?” my question does not understand.
“Alamarhumah my mother requires my wife not to work and must participate in social activities that she pioneered with her friends. Naava did not mind. I'm the one who objected. I am grateful to have waited for the right moment because we did not need long to wait for the presence of the child.” Papa smiled happily with his nostalgic eyes.
“Naava is an independent wife. I never bothered him. Sometimes I wish she would ask me for help, just once. Looks like my wish just came true now.” Papa blinked one eye at me.
“Papa don't mind all these hassles? Seriously?” I half teased him.
“No. I like her instead. You won't know how boring it is to just stay home after quitting the job that has kept me busy.”
I understand now where my husband's romantic attitude comes from. He imitated his father. His sweet nature, his love that is not easily turned away, also his patience to face me. As I was grieving the loss of our baby, he was barely twenty-four by my side. He didn't mind bringing his work home, worried that I would do the same stupidity again. I was sure that if I was seriously ill, he would not leave me, but be faithful by my side.
That's why I don't want to imagine if we were never together. I won't find another man out there who will love me like Hendra. He's just for me. Just like I was just for him. Once again I condemned the three months of fasting I had to live which seemed to be getting further and further away from the finish line.
Keeping her promise, Annora and her family came to stay at our house before they returned to London. The atmosphere of the already crowded house became increasingly crowded with their presence. And for the first time, I was able to see Liam and Jax who were now fourteen and sixteen years old. They're so handsome!
Liam mimics Annora's physique with dark hair and green eyes, while Jax takes Xavier's physique with his blond hair and bright blue eyes. Hendra held onto my chin and turned my face several times towards him as I stared at them in admiration. What is wrong with admiring the beauty of nature in front of me? Is she jealous of the kids too?
He didn't even allow me to shake their hand. It just ruins my mood. Xavier and Annora who already knew my husband's possessive nature just laughed at his behavior. We invite them to rest in our rooms and do whatever they want in our homes. Dinner is prepared whenever they want to fill their stomachs.
Liam and Jax immediately asked for the password of the wireless network in our house. Annora and I exchanged meaningful looks. Children today cannot escape from the internet. Abdi leads his co-workers with their suitcases to the room that Xavier and his family will use.
While waiting for them to clean up, we accompanied Hadi and Dira to watch in the living room. Ara curled up at my feet, while the children were among us. It's been a long time since we felt this peace.
“Ma, Grandma is sick until Mama every day to Grandma's house?” tanya Hadi who suddenly shifted the topic of our conversation about the film we watched.
“Kanker, baby,” I replied while wiping her delicate hair.
“Kanker?” tanyanya surprised. His face turned sad. “Mama Colin also has cancer. Is Grandma also going far away because of this pain, Ma?”
“No, dear.” I smiled at him. “Grandmother has been operated on because Mama accompanied Grandma for a while. Replace with Grandpa so that Grandpa is not too tired. Grandma is in recovery. The doctor said, Grandma's life is still long. So, you don't need to be sad.”
“Then why did mama Colin leave because of cancer, Ma?” tanyanya's confused.
“That's because the pain is severe and the mother was helped late,” I replied slowly.
“Can I accompany Grandma with Mama?” tanyanya expectantly. “I promise I won't interfere. I'll obey whatever Mama says.” I looked towards Hendra. He nodded slowly.
“Bby. Tomorrow after school, Mr. Liando will take you and Colin to Grandma's house. Promise won't make Grandpa and Grandma angry?” I pointed my right little finger. He immediately hooked his right pinky on my finger.
“Appointment, Ma!” said happy.
