The Untouched Heart

The Untouched Heart
Chapter 40 - The Happy Smile of My Family

I smiled at the road in front of me. Although I was used to going anywhere by myself, I did not refuse or argue anymore with my husband's decision to make Liando my personal driver. Just for today. As long as he's abroad, Kafin will drive me wherever I go.

My pregnancy only made me sick in the morning. And I often fall asleep at night, faster than my usual bedtime. The rest, I can still move normally. But for the sake of taking care of myself and the development of my fetus, I relented. I let myself be spoiled by sitting in the back seat and Liando or Kafin driving for me.

Arriving at a flower shop, I asked Liando to wait for a while. I looked around at the types of fresh flowers that were in the store, then asked them to make a bouquet of flowers from white peonies, white calla lily, and baby’s breath.

Our next destination was my favorite restaurant. The food served in this place is very healthy and only uses herbs and natural ingredients. I chose Mama's favorite menu and asked to be packed for five people. After buying some bread for Papa and fresh fruit for Mama at a supermarket, we headed to my parents' house.

Papa welcomed my arrival. I brought a bouquet of flowers and gave it to Mama who was sitting watching television, while Papa and Liando brought a bag of food to the dining room.

“You won't know what your father has been doing since I got home from the hospital.” Mama stared dislikefully at Papa.

“What is Papa doing, Ma?” I sat by his side. Mama sighed softly.

“I can't cook. The doctor told me I was okay. I was allowed to do everyday activities that were not burdensome. What is the weight of cooking?” lamented Mama. I smile at the smile.

“Wait another week, you can go back to cooking, my dear,” said Papa while giving a cut apple to Mama.

“One more week, I'm dead from boredom.” My mother looked back at me. “You know, I was even forbidden to water the plants using a water hose. Why not just let me stay in the hospital longer?” I laughed hearing that. Now I understand who I got my nature from.

I'm calm to see the recovery process Mama did not find any significant obstacles. Mama is fine, and until now has not shown any postoperative disorders. The cut marks on his skin also showed no sign of infection or pain.

Fortunately, Mama is not the kind of picky person when it comes to food. So, Papa has no difficulty in watching the food you eat. Only about daily activities that make them continue to fight.

Zach came home on time, so we had dinner together after he took a shower and changed clothes. Liando did not want to eat with us at the dinner table, so I did not forbid him who chose to eat in the living room while watching television.

We listened to Zach's story about some interesting cases he was dealing with. I was quite satisfied with the outline of the case he told us. As a lawyer, I know that he is under oath, which requires him to keep every secret of his client. He seemed very happy with what he was doing.

“Kak Hendra left for two weeks, are you going to be okay, Brother?” zach asked to change the subject.

“What do you mean am I going to be okay? Of course I'm good.” I rolled my eyeballs at his ridiculous question.

“Do not talk carelessly. Hendra's not here, you're safe. But what if you miss saying that while he's with us? Stop joking about my feelings,” I said in a serious tone. Zach squinted his eyes.

“Did Brother secretly love Brother Hendra?” ask Zach full of probes. I immediately hit his arm again. He even laughed.

“Hendra isn't here doesn't mean I can't defend myself. Quickly find your girlfriend so as not to interfere with my married life continue.” I kept showering him with punches. I didn't hit him hard, just worried about what he said.

“Already, already. Until when do you guys keep fighting like kids?” lerai Mom. I hit Zach's arm once again before completely stopping. Zach rubbed his arms while laughing. “Your brother is right, Zach. It's time you seriously looked for wife.”

“Lho? Why talk about it, Ma? I was young. Girlfriend affairs can be later,” said Zach dodged. Now it's my turn to laugh.

“Muda what? You have been twenty-seven years. Your brother just got married at twenty-four. You are busy with work now. You will be more busy later when more known to many people.” Mama advises.

“I have many friends who have girls who are single.” Papa offered help. Zach looked at Papa in disbelief.

“That's a great idea, Pa,” says Mama agrees.

“I don't want to. I'll choose it myself. Papa and Mama don't have to interfere,” refuse Zach. I laughed when I saw her panicked face. Papa and Mama were even more eager to do their plan.

I saw the happy faces of Mama, Papa, and Zach, there was no burden on their faces, no forced smile as if they were hiding their problems. Although I don't want to admit this, but I thank Hendra for the help, more than he promised.

Not only did he help redeem our home back, but Papa and Mama were able to stay in a more comfortable home with a new atmosphere and furniture. Mama has had her heart surgery and got the best medical treatment we wouldn't be able to afford on our own. Zach can go on with his life and do what he used to love.

When compared to all that, what I had to give Hendra did not deserve to be called a sacrifice. I've been married to her for six years, I just need to stay married to her so she can protect my family. Which Hendra gave me more than he received from me.

The house felt empty without her being with me. I climbed the stairs to our room and I lost the hand that was always on my back. Entering the room, I did not feel the hand that pulled me in his arms and kissed my hair. The bathroom also feels quiet without the sound of water and happy humming while bathing.

After taking a shower and changing clothes, I lost my voice telling me about her plans for the next day. The blanket that covered my body was not warm enough without her embrace lying by my side. And I miss his love.
