Before things got worse, I took Mama out of the room. Papa came closer when he saw his wife's face. I asked the nurse who was near the door to call the doctor. He had to check on my husband again.
I don't know what they did in the ICU room earlier so they concluded that Hendra was fine to be in the ward. Did they not ask him anything else? How could my husband not remember his own name?
“What happened, Zahara? What's up, son? Did something happen to Hendra?” ask your friends, Mama, and Zach at the same time. I raised my hand to keep them quiet.
“Hendra can't remember who we are, even his own name,” I said slowly. They cry out in disbelief. I immediately put my index finger in front of my lips. We're in the hospital, so we can't make a fuss.
“This is worse than I imagined. Hendra lost his memory. Hopefully this is only temporary,” murmured Zach slowly. I closed my eyes hearing that word. Memory loss. I forgot about that. Hendra's head was hit hard when the accident occurred, memory loss is one of the effects of the hard impact. That's what I read from last night's article.
The doctor came, and I went to my room. I looked towards Zach. Understand what I mean, he came into that room with me. Hendra was still conscious with a confused face looking at us. The doctor asked the nurse to check on Hendra. The doctor looked around him.
“Good morning, Mr. Mahendra. Among the people in this room, is there anything familiar to you?” ask the doctor kindly. Hendra looked at us one by one.
“No. And my name is not Mahendra or Hendra,” he said in a dislike tone.
“Good. I am Andreas, the Mighty family doctor. What is the name of Mr?” ask the doctor. Hendra opened his mouth, then frowned. He saw us back before he looked at the Doctor back.
“A-me, my name .. I don't know what my name is,” he said confusedly.
“Good. What was the last thing you remember before you woke up today?” ask the doctor.
“I ... I don't know,” he said slowly with his shoulders drooping. “What happened? My head is like empty, I don't remember anything.”
“Bapak had a car accident two days ago. Because he had severe bleeding, we had to have surgery. You can realize as soon as this is a miracle because usually patients take longer to wake up.” The doctor noted on the board he was holding.
“I have absolutely no memory of the accident,” said Hendra.
“We will check the circumstances of Father, don't worry. We'll find out what happened so you don't remember anything.” The doctor turned his head towards me, then with his eyes asked me to come with him.
We followed out of the room. I looked at my husband and saw him looking forward with a blank look. I don't know what she's feeling right now without a single thing about her that she can remember.
The doctor suggested an MRI. I handed every decision to him. Hendra trusted him as our family doctor, so did I. He introduced me to a neurologist. After the results came out, they would call me to discuss my husband's situation.
After Hendra returned to his room, I invited everyone to continue their visit. I was hoping, who knew there was one of us Hendra would remember. But they all came out disappointed.
My friends came home almost night. They comforted me and gave me a spirit that I cherished most, because I needed it. They promised they would come to see if they could. I'm nodding.
Although they did not want to, I forced Kafin and his wife to go home as well. The man still needed enough rest to recover his condition. I asked him not to come to work until he was completely healed. I won't cut his salary. They thanked him with a stained face.
I also forced my parents and in-laws to go home. They have been very tired of being in the hospital since noon. Zach objected, but I told him to go home because only he could take Papa and Mama. The kids didn't mind when I asked them to come along with their grandparents.
“Iya, Pa,” I replied slowly.
He looked towards Hendra's room door. “I've never had such a bad event in a row like this in our lives. My wife had cancer, and then my son had an accident and lost his memory. I must have had many sins in the past.”
“Papa, Mama's condition is getting better and has been spared from cancer.” I touched both of their hands. “Mama does not hurt because of her mistake. The disease was passed down directly by Grandma Buyut, then Grandma to Mama. They both died at a young age from cancer. We should be grateful that Mama's disease was detected early so that Mama could survive.
“What Hendra experienced was also not the fault of Papa or Mama. It's an accident, it can happen to anyone. All we need to do now is be strong to help him remember everything back. We just pray that the MRI results are good and the doctor knows how to help him recover,” I said trying to comfort them and myself.
Mama sobbing. I tried to hold back my tears. Which unharmed mother saw her own child could not remember, even resisting her touch. The way Hendra looked at Mama and me in the room was very painful.
Papa tried to calm Mama down. He nodded and took Mama away. Being here any longer would only hurt her more. I stared at their departure. As I was about to turn around, I saw Liando coming. I smiled at the food box he was carrying.
“The lady must not have had dinner. Fahri leave food for you and the Great Lord. All these foods are safe for Tuan.” He lifted the food box.
“I know she must be careful cooking healthy menu.” I glanced at my watch. “Come, we go inside. Invite Sakti to come here too.”
Liando pulled out his phone and called Sakti to go to the nursery. I went in first, and saw Hendra was in a half-sitting position. Maybe one of my friends helped raise the top of the bed.
He opened and looked at us. I smiled at him. “This Liando. One of the workers in our house.” I looked towards the tray that contained a plate that was still untouched. “Do you want to eat something?”
Hendra looked towards the box Liando was carrying. “The aroma is good. What is it?” He looked towards the table where the tray containing his food was located. “I don't want to eat that food.”
She's exactly like her mother. I put the tray from the hospital on the sideboard near the television, then pushed the small four-wheeled table right in front of it. I let Liando put the food box on the table.
Sakti went into the room after knocking on the door. I invited him and Liando to sit down. Hendra soaked his lips with his tongue looking at the box after box I had opened. I gave two boxes of rice to Liando and Sakti.
“I'm not sure I'll be full just by eating bread,” lamented as I gave the box full of bread to him.
“You haven't started eating already protested. There are many food options, you are definitely full.” I gave the box containing vegetables and the one containing the side dishes to the two men so they could start eating. Then I brought the box of grilled salmon, green vegetables, and eggs to him. His eyes glittered with pleasure to see all that. I shook my head slowly.
“Where are you going?” he asked me when I was going to sit on the sofa with our two workers. “Don't sit there. You can sit here.” He patted the edge of his bed. I looked at her in surprise, then turned to look at the two men near me. They simultaneously smile.
“Don't you reject me this afternoon, don't even want me to touch? Then why now are you asking me to sit near you?” many confused.
“You said that you were my wife. Which stupid man would refuse to have a wife as beautiful as you? I can remember a few things anyway. Every time my head hurts, there are one or two things that just pop into my mind.”
I squinted my eyes at him. She's really lost her memory or just pretending?
