The Untouched Heart

The Untouched Heart
Chapter 57 - We Already Know

On that Sunday, it was my in-laws who first arrived at our house. Zach comes with Papa and Mama in a new car that he buys from his own hard work. They each brought my favorite bread and cakes. We enjoyed it together in the living room.

Hendra gave Papa and my father-in-law an envelope on the sidelines of our conversation. They looked at him confused. My husband invited them to open it. They opened the envelope and took out a photo from inside. We paste a small paper on the photo with the sentence, “Hai, Grandpa and Grandma, we will soon meet.”

“Oh, God. Here, are you pregnant?” ask Papa to me. I'm nodding. Papa immediately stood up and approached me. He hugged me tightly. “Congratulations, Ara.”

“Thank God, I will soon be a grandfather,” said my father-in-law moved. I took turns to take hugs from him. They hugged and congratulated my husband as well. I looked towards Mama and my mother-in-law who were just smiling meaningfully.

“Mama is not happy with this news?” hendra asked me what I was thinking too.

“We've known about it for a long time. Do you think you can hide things like this from women who have had pregnancy experiences?” My mother-in-law laughed with my mother. Me and Hendra were both pouting at our attempt to surprise them to no avail.

“We will soon be grandmothers!” cheer them happy. Mama hugged me, then my mother-in-law. “You won't know how hard we have to hold back from asking you.” said my mother-in-law. “I know you guys purposely kept it a secret from us.”

“We also do that while pregnant. Waiting until the hard times pass and then tell the whole family about the happy news.” Mama kissed me again. I'm very happy.

“Finally I'll be an uncle too.” Zach laughed happily. He hugged me tightly and shook Hendra's hand. We sat back in our seats. He looked at the USG photo all right. “Why is he so small? I hope she imitates more of her father's kind nature than her mother's irritating nature.”

“At least, he will not imitate your nature.” I stick my tongue out at him. Our family just laughed. I hugged Hendra and put my head on his arm.

“Have you guys prepared a name?” ask my father-in-law expectantly.

“Numbered, Pa. Papa has a proposal?” Hendra asked back.

“I'll think of his name later. Since we don't know the gender of the little one yet, I'll prepare two names just in case,” said my father-in-law happily.

“I will also prepare a name for my first grandson,” Papa said not to lose.

“Bby, Pa. Two names from his grandfather, he must have liked it.” Hendra put his hand on my stomach. I smile.

When we met Zach's eyes, we spoke without a word. He doesn't seem ready to announce his relationship with Rasmi. Unlike her boyfriend, this was definitely one big step for her so she needed more time. He looks like Aldo. Hendra is a unique man I have known. He did not hesitate in the least when he proposed to me.

To avoid an accidental meeting with Aldo, I did not shop at the same supermarket. I went to a branch further away. Hendra didn't ask me why I did that. He was happy to be with me longer in his car.

I was so relieved when all the emails came in. Almost six o'clock in the afternoon, my husband will be home soon. I can't wait to tell her what I've been doing all day.

Hearing the subtle roar of her car engine, I rushed out of the living room to welcome her homecoming. Abdi opened the door and there he, my beloved husband, walked into the house. “Hai!” greet me with a happy face.

“Hai.” He passed me and walked up the stairs. No hugs or kisses? He never was.  I looked towards Kafin who just shook his head slowly and got into the car.

Question mark, I followed Hendra to the top floor. He came into our room and went straight to the bathroom. I was stunned for a moment where I stood. What the hell's going on? I waited for him by sitting on the edge of the bed. It's not usually that he doesn't ask me to help open his tie knot.

She was in the bathroom for so long that it made me worry. But I had not stood up to ask her how she was, the bathroom door opened and she came out with only a towel wrapped around her hips.

She entered the clothes room without closing the bathroom door. I stood up and checked the state of the room. It was still as neat as ever, so I put out the lights and closed the door. I sat on the edge of the bed waiting for her to get dressed.

Hendra entered the room, I stood up again. Without looking at me, he walked out of the room. I followed him with a questionable heart. He went downstairs and immediately headed towards the dining room. On the table has presented his favorite food, I asked specifically to make him happy, but he was just silent. I said nothing about the cooking.

Although puzzled by her change of attitude, I did not dare to ask and only kept quiet while spooning food into my mouth. Sometimes I look at him. He just stared at the food on his plate.

“I still have work. I'll be in the workspace.” He stood up and left me without touching me. I put the spoon on the plate and let out a breath that I didn't realize I was holding back from earlier.

His attitude really confused me. What the hell is going on? This morning everything was fine. We even went together to the laundry and she drove me to the supermarket. Then what did I do to him during his time at work that made him change his attitude?

I watched the television broadcast in the living room until my eyes felt heavy. As soon as my eyes could barely be opened again, I turned off the television and headed upstairs. When I opened the door, I was surprised to see Hendra already sitting on the edge of the bed. Wasn't he already in a job? Since when is he here? He doesn't usually come into the room without taking me.

“Hendra, is everything okay? Since you came home, your attitude has been very strange.” I approached and sat down beside him, he immediately stood up as I touched his hand. My heart started beating fast. I wasn't imagining, he didn't touch or touch me.

“Three weeks. Why didn't you tell me what happened three weeks ago?” it was the question that made my heart almost stop. My mouth seemed to be locked and could not say a word. He knows. Where'd he know that? “Your love came to me. She was so happy to tell me that you guys were together again.”

“What?” I frowned not understanding. We're not together anymore. What did Aldo mean come to see him and say that to Hendra?

“So how did you sleep with her in the same hotel room on two different days? And at the time I was not here.” asked slowly. Oh. No. gabe. He shouldn't have told me that part. How can I get her sorry again?
