~Za~
Papa and Mama came to visit when I drove the lawyer to the front of the house. Zach, who used to drive them without getting out of the car, rushed over to me. He stared at the man's car leaving from in front of my house.
“Why did he come here, Brother?” ask Zach suspiciously. He must know who that guy is.
“She brought divorce papers that I have to sign,” I replied casually. He rounded his eyes. I closed it with my palm. “Awas, your eyes can be dislodged.”
“What happened? Why are you so easy to say divorce? Is not enough five years that you have lived?” his protest.
“Divorce? Who wants a divorce?” mama asked while looking at me and Zach in turn.
“Hendra remembers the incident between me and Vivaldo. Without asking me to speak carefully, he called my in-laws and they left yesterday morning,” I replied indifferently.
“Why are you staying here? Quick, explain to your husband that it was just a misunderstanding. That shameless child who has been troubling you,” urged Mama.
“Ma, she's lost her memory. I couldn't get her to talk about something she couldn't remember. But at least I know one thing. He doesn't love me as much as he says. You liar man,” umpatku while turning over and entering the house.
Things got easier for me when I cursed. I don't have to shed my precious tears anymore for a man who can only take advantage of my weakness. Love, love bullshit. All the compliments are just nonsense.
Poor kids. They have always been victims of our selfishness. Hopefully, Zach and Mr. Oscar can throw the mayor in jail. He is the source of trouble. Not wanting his sins to be exposed, even adding to his own sins. Hendra was wrong. Why should he provoke the anger of the man who had such an important position? Stupid guy.
Not enough of all the swearing for him I said in my head, Papa called and persuaded me to come to the house and accompany the stupid man. I'm still upset with him. But he's still my husband, so I can't bear to refuse Papa's request.
I was finally able to sit quietly while he was taking a nap. Papa said that he had a severe headache when he woke up. What does he remember today? Is it still about the affair? A strange disease. Why don't you open up good things about me? Why is it always bad?
The clock on the wall shows it's past three in the afternoon. Should I wake him up? At exactly four o'clock, the coach came in for a second physiotherapy appointment today. Ah, naw. I let him sleep longer. He needs.
The door opened, I looked. I thought it was Hendra, it was Mama. I straightened my body and locked my phone screen. Officially informing me that my book will start to open early bookings this afternoon, so I wonder how the readers will welcome my fourth book.
“Why are you here? You're not trying to tease and seduce my son into going home with you?” mama asked while sitting on the sofa in front of me. A woman also came in. Judging from her clothes, she must be Mama's nurse.
“Hendra is sleeping, Auntie,” I replied then because I do not know what to say.
“You know that he won't come back to you again, ‘kan? Whatever you do, he will never forgive you again. You better start getting ready to part with him. I make sure, this time you will be separated for good,” threatened.
I'm bored. Really am. We've been talking about this for months. Were it not for my infatuation with his son, I would not have been silent about receiving this treatment from anyone. I don't know when Mama thinks I'm a cheap girl.
But as he cursed me again and again, I could not prevent my defensive fort from collapsing. I'm not a saint, I know that. I have an unforgivable mistake, that too I know. But it was not me who caused my husband to have an accident until he lost his memory.
Not everything that happens in our lives is the result of my mistakes. God will not be that cruel either. Why should my mother-in-law be this bad to me? How else do I need him to forgive me?
“Ma, stop!” The sound of Hendra's call finally managed to make Mama speechless. “Za had nothing to do with the accident I had. Please, stop blaming him for everything. And I'm the only one who can talk about our marriage. Mama or anyone else also has no right to interfere.”
“You are my son. He has hurt you, then he also hurt me,” Mama said.
“Do not carry my name, mention my happiness, if what Mama feels and does to her is the selfishness of Mama herself.” Hendra held my hand and asked me to stand up. “I'll go tomorrow to another place. I can't stay here with Mama anymore.”
“What? Would you rather live with a woman who has given her body to another man, who betrayed her wedding vows, than your own mother? I did what I thought was good for you, I won't intentionally hurt you, Hendra. Parting with her sooner would be better for you. Trust me,” said Mama.
“When you think with a clear head and heart, that's when you will believe your words. We talked about this yesterday. I gave Mama one last chance. So, I'll go tomorrow.” Hendra moved his wheelchair and took me with him.
Mom just kept quiet and didn't say anything more. I had to follow Hendra. Where's he taking me? He opened the door and went out first. As I was about to walk through the door, I took the time to look at Mama. What I saw made me not understand. Mom smiled. Not an ordinary smile. Mama smiled so happily.
Hendra took me to his room. He watched as two maids stuffed all his clothes into a suitcase. I sat on the edge of the bed and thought about Mama's expression. Why would I be in such a strange family?
“Where are you going? Do you have a place to stay?” I broke the silence between us.
“For a while, I'll stay at the hotel. I can ask for info on temporary residence there later,” he replied still with an annoyed face.
“You definitely don't remember this. We have an apartment. You can stay there for a while,” I said giving advice.
“Apartment? And you just told me now?” his protest.
“Who suddenly left home without discussing with me? Stop blaming others for decisions you make on your own. You and your mama are the same,” I said on purpose.
“My mother and I are not the same. I don't blame you. I was just asking why you're new, ah, that's it. I will never win if I argue with you,” he said.
“Sakti knows where the apartment is located, he also knows the entry code. I'll have Liando send you food because you can't eat carelessly yet,”.
He looked towards me. “Are you okay? Regarding what Mama said, please, don't put it to heart. I don't know why my mama is so.” I'm just smiling.
When Papa finally came home, I felt very relieved. I no longer need to face the drama in this house. I refused to have dinner with them. I've been leaving the kids too long. I decided not to tell you about the incident that happened between me and Mama. Let it be a secret between us.
“Mama home! Mama!” greet Hadi and Dira as soon as Abdi opens the front door for me. I laughed when I saw chocolate stains on their faces.
“Pak Fahri makes chocolate ice cream, yes?” my guess.
“Iya, Ma!” answer Hadi. He then told me cheerfully what he was doing with his grandparents all day. I looked at Mom and Dad with gratitude.
After dinner, Mom and Dad decided to go home. They can only tell me to be patient with my husband. I don't want to be patient anymore, it will only make me cry to see our situation. But I didn't say that in front of my parents and kept everything in my heart.
To make up for the time I couldn't spend with them, I accompanied the children in Hadi's room while reading them a storybook. I sat down on the edge of Dira's bed just like the night before after carrying her from her brother's room.
Before the good-natured dog came into the room and hugged me all night, I came out of my daughter's room. Tears flowing one by one wet my cheeks. This is my second night without Hendra. I smiled hearing the subtle footsteps climbing the stairs. A moment later, I saw Ara running towards me. I immediately placed my index finger in front of my lips so that he would not bark.
Hearing another footsteps, I waited until someone emerged from the stairs. Abdi headed towards the corridor towards my room, then I called out to him. He stopped and turned to look at me, then walked in a frenzy.
“Mistress, there are police coming with a search permit,” reported. Whahuh? What is a permit? Hendra and I did no crime why would anyone want to search?
