The Untouched Heart

The Untouched Heart
Chapter 107 - The Only Hope

~Hendra~

I saw Za enter the house and waited until she would not be able to hear us before talking to the woman. He's been bothering me for days by calling me. Therefore, I blacklisted the number so that it was automatically rejected by my phone system.

Couldn't call me on the phone anymore, did he come to see me in person? What did Oscar and Zach do? Why can't they give you the right understanding so that no one dares to question my decision?

“You know that I can ruin your life if you keep challenging me like this. Get away from this place while I can still tolerate your attitude.” He's been serving for so long, that's all that makes me appreciate him a little bit as a human being.

“I promise I won't do that again, sir. There will be no more excessive attention or teasing. I'm really sorry but let me keep working for you,” the door again. He even knelt in front of me.

“I'll call the police.” I passed by and walked towards the door.

“No, Sir! Wait for. Fine, fine. I'm gonna get out of here. Please, please, reconsider my request. No one can work as well as I do, you know that. Only I know how to work with the rhythm you want.” He was still trying to persuade me. I turned around and looked at him seriously.

“You think you're not replaced just because you've been working for me for seven years? You're not my wife, Sherry. You are just a secretary.” He sniffled, I don't care. I went into the house and closed the door again.

The incident played back inside my head as I hugged Za, trying to calm her down. It's all my fault for not being careful. I should have locked the door right where my daughter was, instead of relying on the central key on the car. The weakness was exploited by the kidnappers in their actions. Damnit.

I have too many enemies. Could it be one of them who did this? Looking at Sherry's determination earlier, could it be that she planned this? He knows so many people who have money and power after years of working for me. It could be that one of them is an enemy in a blanket.

The IT chief has confirmed that none of his men were in contact with Sherry after he was officially fired. There was no communication of any kind, then he couldn't possibly get help from one of my best ITs.

Or maybe it was Aldo? He was released a year ago from prison. Apparently, he can return to work in his original place. But I don't care about that. He felt bad about living in prison. And I made sure that he got what he had to get for three years in confinement. Money I can always count on.

He still pays people to follow my wife and observe her from afar. What does she want? He had gotten so many chances in the past to be able to have Za, but he was wasted. And now he's still trying to get it back? What exactly does she expect from my wife? Does this mean it's time for me and Za to get back together?

Aldo had tried twice to talk to Za while she was out of the house with the children. Of course my woman immediately dodged and moved away from him. Ever since our divorce, I paid people to follow him everywhere and report him to me. I don't trust him anymore so I wonder if he's keeping himself well out there or looking for a new love.

No. gabe. It's not time we got back together. Za will not be strong to face so many problems that have been waiting for us ahead. Papa and Mama still hate him so much and try to marry me to another woman. I'll have to wait.

Nora. Could it be that woman who told people to kidnap Dira? His family was wealthy, paying a cabal to commit a crime was not difficult. Even though their surnames were clean, I had heard unpleasant rumors regarding the way they resolved disputes with striking employees.

“Do you think he's not acting strangely?” za said while observing Ara's manner.

At first I was skeptical that these untrained puppies would be able to help us search for Dira or at least find traces of the car they were using earlier. But seeing that it could follow the smell of my daughter, maybe she was our only hope.

After asking the housekeeper to look after my sleeping son, I immediately invited Za to get into the car. He hesitated to leave our son alone, but I managed to convince him. We can't waste time. They could go and move to a new location. Dira can not linger with strangers.

I went back to the road we were on and Irwan helped me choose a path that was not monitored by CCTV earlier. Ara was acting calm while sniffing the air. I drove the car as late as I could and opened all the windows.

“It looks like this way didn't work,” said Za who stared out the window with worry. I took her hand and smiled at her.

“Not yet to give up.” I not only convinced him, but myself as well.

“One more lane, Hendra. Hopefully this time we are lucky,” said Irwan through my phone loudspeaker. “Their car hasn't gone out of the blind spot yet. They're still around there.”

“Good.” That gave me a little hope.

“Remember, don't act before my men come. You can't fight them alone. Who knows if someone has a weapon.”

“Oh, Lord.” Za covered her mouth with both hands.

“Only my guess, Mrs Mahendra. I really hope that I'm wrong. But there is no harm if we keep watch,” said Irwan again.

“I'm not Mrs Mahendra anymore. Call me Zahara.” Za looked at me confused. Ara barked at the name.

“Not Mahendra? But Hendra said,” said Irwan in a confused tone.

“Focus, Irwan. We have entered the last road. Their car hasn't caught CCTV, ‘kan?” ask me to divert the conversation.

Ara did not stop barking. Za and I exchanged looks. So, the salakannya was not because he heard his name called? I pulled the car over. Luckily I put a chain on the necklace around her neck so she couldn't jump out of the window. Ara was trying to pull me to let her go. I grabbed him and tried to calm him down.

“What's up, Hendra? You guysstop. Did the puppy find him?” ask Irwan. He was then heard giving orders to someone while mentioning an address.

“Hopefully he found it. He also behaved this way when forcing his way into the car because he smelled Dira in his baby seat.” I stroked Ara's head. The sound of a car engine was not far behind and in front of me. They were scrambling to put out the lights and the car engine. Okay. I'm not alone. We can do this.

“Come, Hendra. We have to hurry. I'm worried about Dira.” Za shook my hand.

“You stay in the car.” He wanted to refuse but I immediately signaled that he would not cut my words. “I can't lose you both at once. As Irwan said, they could have guns. Please, stay in the car. I will definitely bring our daughter.”

“Good.” He said it heavy. He touched my hand. “You should also be careful. I can't lose you. Please, take care of yourself.”

“I promise.” I asked Ara not to bark, whether she understood it or not, and then opened the car door. But before I came out, I turned back to look at Za. His face was covered in tears.

I don't know if I'll ever see her again. Honestly, I was scared to death. So, if this is our last chance to meet, I want to leave in peace. I framed her back neck with my hands, then kissed her lips as wide as I could.

I love you so much, Za.
