“Cannot until there is an error, Oscar.” For the last time, I reminded my lawyer of our preparations for an important meeting tomorrow.
“Everything's done, sir. The evidence of your defense is already in my hands,” replied the man with full confidence.
“And also in my hand.” Zach touched his briefcase. “I've never seen this cautious Brother before. Take it easy, you have a great legal team in this company. Sherry picked the wrong opponent.”
“If you do your job well, he won't take this matter all the way to the public domain. He's already trampled on my good name by mentioning that I fired him for no apparent reason.” I do not cover my disappointment in their negligence.
“If Big Brother doesn't know yet, a woman in love would be willing to do anything to get hers back. Sherry's crazy about you, brother. I got to wondering, what has Big Brother done to him until he love dies so?” Zach looked at me suspiciously.
“Just do your job. I just made up with my wife, so don't let a single thing make me lose her again.” I looked at them both seriously.
“Nothing made you lose him, Brother. Brother himself released it and does not care about my suggestion.” Zach still dared to open his mouth. I looked at him sharply. He glanced at his watch casually. “My wife must be waiting for my return. I don't want to keep her awake any longer for the sake of our second baby. Until tomorrow morning.”
I shook my head at my sister-in-law's behavior. Oscar laughed and stood up from his seat. We're out of my workroom. Arriving downstairs, they headed for the parking lot, while I walked towards the front door where Kafin had been waiting.
Hadi and Dira are already sleeping well, so I can only give them a good night kiss. Za was also in our bed. I hurried to clean up and change my clothes, then kissed and hugged her, giving me a sense of longing. He didn't wake up at all. I'm the one who's apes. When did he pretend, when did he actually sleep when I was quietly lying here with him?
In the morning, I rushed to the office to do a final check with Oscar and Zach. We then headed to Disnaker. After a long struggle of Kafin through the capital city congestion in the morning, we arrived at our destination.
The sea of reporters was waiting at the main entrance, so we entered through the back door. A familiar employee of Oscar greeted us and took us to the meeting room. There were two men in the room. The prosecutor and his legal team have not arrived. There are still a few minutes before the promised hour.
We thank you when food and drinks are served on the table in front of us. A few minutes had passed, Zach showed me the tablet. A news report from one of the television stations showed Sherry talking to reporters at the front door. So, he purposely wasted my time by making me wait here? Good.
The person who was waiting finally came, three employees who were sent by the service did not look disturbed by the delay. Sherry looked at me arrogantly, as well as the legal counsel that came with her.
The woman is welcome to speak her case first. His legal advisor conveyed every single thing in detail. And Zach is right. They deliberately ignored one important point that was in the employment contract letter that caused Sherry to be fired.
“Thank you for the opportunity given to our client, Mahendra Satya Perkasa from Satya Perkasa Group, as the accused party has committed unlawful acts in unilateral dismissal to his former secretary, who is, Sherry Diana Princess.” Oscar began his defense as soon as the Disnaker employee invited our side to speak.
“The first coin can be seen in article twenty verses eleven. Employees are strictly forbidden to have personal feelings for the employer that can interfere with the professionalism of both at work. In this case, employees have expressed their feelings of affection to the employer several times even though it has been verbally prohibited.”
“Second coin, please read on chapter twenty verse twelve. Employees are strictly prohibited from giving inappropriate attention, speech, and touch to the employer. According to our client's testimony, her former secretary has twice tried to put our client in an uncomfortable position.”
“Shortly, it's not true.” Sherry immediately denied. Goody. He made things easier for us. “That's just a made-up excuse. True, I have certain feelings for Mr. Hendra but it does not interfere with my professionalism as his secretary. After all, Mr. Hendra is a widower. It's only natural that I'm interested in him.
“I can prove that I have never neglected doing my tasks. Regarding the second accusation, I have never done anything indecent to Mr. Hendra. What proof? I always treat him with respect,” he said firmly.
“What Mom is done?” ask Zach. Sherry looks upset, but she doesn't talk anymore. My sister-in-law looked towards the three servants who were the audience of this insignificant drama. “Can we show the video as proof that strengthens our statement?”
“Please,” replied the man sitting in the middle. He turned his head and nodded towards the man who seemed to be of a lower rank than him.
The man standing near the door approached Zach, received a CD from him, then inserted the disc into a laptop that had been connected to an LCD projector. He gave a small object to Zach. With just one button, my sister-in-law played a video that appeared on a white screen in front of all of us.
Only the heads of IT, Oscar, and Zach knew that my workspace was equipped with three hidden CCTVs that could record even unreachable angles. Everyone only knows one CCTV that was deliberately placed in an open place.
Everyone stared in surprise at the video footage. Only the three of us were acting ordinary since we already knew about it. Zach deliberately sped up the video when necessary so that Sherry was not too embarrassed when her personal body parts were exposed on the screen.
“Then this is evidence to suggest that his special feelings for our clients have influenced his professionalism as a secretary.” Oscar gave the man a copy of the document to share with everyone. “These are two important agreements that were canceled unilaterally by my client's business partner because his former secretary was late in sending a reply by email or did not make a notification by phone.”
With all that evidence, neither Sherry nor her legal counsel had any more refutations. The man even went out of the room first and did not accompany his client anymore. I was cleared of all charges. Sherry could not escape before giving a statement to the already information-hungry press at the front door. Zach and Oscar half dragged him to meet them.
My steps felt so light when I got out of the car to the front door of the house. Abdi opened the door and my beloved children and dogs welcomed my return. But the woman I was hoping would give me a kiss was nowhere to be seen.
“Mama where?” ask me to the kids. They immediately pulled my hand towards the living room. And that's where he is. He looked up and gave me a piercing look. I swallowed heavily. Why does he look angry? Not his usual anger, he was furious. What mistakes have I made?
