“Did I hurt you? I impose my will on you?” ask Hendra tubi-tubi.
“No. You didn't hurt me at all.” I tried to convince him.
“I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that. I don't remember it at all. I didn't ask Kafin because I didn't want to ask that personal question. All I remember was eating with my colleagues. We did drink but I don't know what got me drunk. Maybe I just want to forget the pain for a moment.”
He's a man I can't understand. If this farewell was so painful for him, why did he leave anyway? I have done everything I can to keep our marriage. He suddenly gave me the divorce papers. What else can I do if she's determined to get a divorce?
Five years apart, we are still alone. I don't know how about him, but I'm not interested in any guy out there. If she still loves me, why won't she fight for our relationship with me again?
“You don't need to explain anything. You already know now, so you can already feel calm.” I smile.
“Thank you. You gave me a very beautiful daughter.” He looked at me with eyes that were still feeling guilty.
“No need to thank. Although his arrival was not planned, I do not regret having it.” I lowered my head, looking towards the link of both my hands.
“As long as we talk about him, has that guy ever hurt him?” ask Hendra. I frowned not understanding. “The man who scared Dira in restaurant.”
“No. You know that Dira always reacts like that to people she doesn't know. He also did it when you first came home,” I said reminded. He nodded slowly, then a smile adorned his face. “What's up?”
“I want to add my drink, do you also want?” He glanced towards my empty mug. I shook my head slowly.
I yawned wide. It's time to go to sleep. I took the mug from the table and took it to the kitchen. Hendra actually made another warm drink. If he's hungry, why doesn't he just eat something?
“I slept, yeah. Good night,” my farewell after yawning again. He looked towards me. Suddenly he kissed my lips, and said good night. I round my eyes. He did the same.
“Ma-forgive me. I didn't mean.” His pale white face immediately met with red.
“Iya. It's okay.” Before things got any more awkward, I rushed into the room.
Just a good-night kiss. It doesn't mean anything. I kept saying that in my head to not stir up hope in my heart that she still wanted us to be together. Four more days, then we don't need to be together like this.
The next day we left without the puppy. I felt sorry when I saw his sad face. But Hendra was his master. If he doesn't want to take her, then we're heading to a place where pets aren't allowed in.
“Yesterday saw animals, today plants? Your plans may as well,” my praise is sincere.
“Hadi doesn't have to go to school to study, ‘kan?” Also true. I really appreciate this effort. He helped our son out of the car, then turned around and took Dira out of my arms. “Let me take him. Papa son happy to be able to walk again?” The little girl immediately laughed happily as Hendra kissed her cheek.
“Pa, are we going to continue living together like this?” asked Hadi as we were walking towards the next location.
“Are you hungry? What do you want to eat?” asked Hendra to divert Hadi's mind. He could not avoid that question. Our son will ask again later.
Hendra did not take us to dinner at the restaurant so I was very happy to smell the aroma of the cuisine as soon as the villa door was opened. We ate before we took a shower. I know he did this so we wouldn't accidentally meet Dicky again.
To avoid the same incident, I did not watch with him or sit chatting on the sofa like the previous nights. The cold air in this place seemed to make us unable to resist the urge from within each of us. I don't want it to happen on the night three years ago.
Although the people near me did not say anything bad about Dira's presence, others would not think the same. There must be people out there who label me as a bad or cheap woman. I was pregnant when my husband and I were officially divorced for two years. That is a disgrace. And I'm sure my two in-laws hate me even more for it.
I was saddened to see the disappointed faces of Hadi and Dira staring at the rain on the side porch. We couldn't go anywhere today. The puppy even curled up sadly between Hendra and Hadi's thighs. Why are they sitting on the floor and staring at the rain?
“Ah, I have an idea!” Hendra immediately stood up and lowered Dira from his sling. Hadi, Dira, and the puppy followed him.
“Papa! Papa!” shouted Dira who could not follow the speed of Hendra's steps. I took her hand and took her with me to see what her father was doing in an unused room.
“Nah, meet!” cheers Hendra who came out while carrying a blue object. Whatisit? We who were curious, followed him back to the side porch. “Give me space, don't get too close.” He opened it wide and I understood. This is a very good idea!
I helped him put up the big dome-shaped tent. We don't need rope or wood to be fastened. The tendon is practical because there is already its own skeleton. We managed to establish it soon. Hadi cheered happily and immediately went inside, while Dira just stood up while holding her papa pants.
While carrying Dira, Hendra took some necessities from the warehouse. Pillows, bedding, small tables, even electric lights as lights. Hadi came with his pandas. Seeing that, Dira asked to be taken down from her papa sling and walked alone to her room to pick up her panda doll.
We sat together in the tent with a warm drink in our hands. Dira sat on Hendra's lap, while Hadi leaned on his papa's arm. The puppy curled up at the feet of his master. I sat not far from them, starting to feel like an uninvited stranger. Hm.
“Pa, do Papa love me and Dira?” ask Hadi slowly.
“Of course, Son,” replied Hendra.
“I also love Papa.” Hadi hugged his father's arm.
“Sayang Papa,” said Dira imitating her brother. I smiled to see them. Hendra's eyes glazed over the words his two children had spoken.
“How about Mama?” ask Hadi later. “What does Papa love to Mama?”
