“Editor praises Brother's book and I'm curious. I read it while working in the office. And I totally ignored all my work because I couldn't stop before the story was over! How can this book feel different from the other books of Brother? I like it, Brother!” hysterical poetry. I kept my phone away from my ear so as not to hurt my hearing.
“Official, it's just a regular book. You overdo it.” I shook my head. I thought what was hysterical like this. It was just my fourth book.
“I'm not overdoing it. Is it because the main character of the woman has another nature then the book feels different? Anyway, I love it, Brother!” praise again. I laughed hearing that. “First, we'll see the reader's response first. When their reaction is as we expected, then we plan to lift it to the big screen.”
“You're serious, Official? Stories on the book are very ordinary.” I'm gawking in disbelief.
“So I said that because Brother is the author. Trust me, Brother. Big Brother's book this time will be very well received.” He sounds like he's talking to someone. “I'll talk to Brother again later. Zeph whining calling me.”
“OK, Official. Thank ye. Greetings from us to Zach and Zeph.” We ended the phone call. I turned around and met my husband who looked at me in wonder. I lowered my gaze enjoying her nice body. Two more months.
“Sabar, darling. Soon we can make love.” Hendra laughed with satisfaction. I pouted looking at him. “Who called? What news?”
“Official. He said my book was good. She likes it.” I still don't believe in that.
“Your book is not good if you still use the same way of writing.” He walked past me towards the bed. Huh. He will retract those words later if Rasmi is right and my book sells hard. “You better take a shower now, if you still want me to help you sleep soundly.” He looked at me meaningfully. I rushed into the bathroom.
After jogging that morning, I called Papa and reminded him to empty the container of Mama's liquid. He just laughed. Because it has been a few days to trouble Papa and Mama, then I brought Dira with me to my in-laws' house.
I know that I don't have to do this. Papa and the waiter at home can help Mama, but I am not calm if I do not pay attention to her situation. I don't plan on making books for a while. The publisher also did not force me to make a new book immediately, so I wanted to use my time to take care of my mother-in-law.
Following the schedule at the hospital, Papa and I agreed to empty the liquid container every six in the morning, two in the afternoon, and ten in the evening. Anyone who does should record the amount of liquid in the book we have prepared together. Then Mama will do some light exercise an hour after eating. The rest of us have to make sure that Mama gets some rest.
I can only help during the day. At least Papa can rest for a while and play with his grandson when I accompany Mama. He did not seem to complain or refuse my help. Even though we didn't say much, I'm glad that Mama accepted my presence.
We took Mama the next Monday so the hose could be removed. The fluid on the scar of the operation is no longer out. The doctor checked my mother and gave us good news. She was fine and her left chest did not have any infections or other problems.
To avoid anything bad happening to the wound, the doctor asked us to remain careful when doing gymnastics. Allowed movements are only those that have been trained all along. If you have a complaint, we are asked to contact you immediately. We laughed together as the doctor confirmed that Mama still needed a full rest.
We only need to see a surgeon but Mama invites us to consult also with her oncologist. The man greeted us in his room, and his face turned bright when he saw me also coming with my in-laws.
Already accustomed to the attention of the opposite sex, I do not understand his attitude. Did Mom do this on purpose? Hendra once questioned his mother's decision to choose this doctor and hospital for treatment. Doctors and hospitals are much better. Is this doctor the reason?
“Your mom is happy because you accompanied her to see a doctor today.” Papa looked at me. He was sitting in the front seat, while me, Mama, and Dira were in the back seat.
“Doctor Gerhard seems interested in you. Do you know each other?” ask Mama. Should I answer honestly or pretend?
“We both know that Zahara is an attractive woman, dear. It is only natural that many men like him. Just as experienced by our son too,” Papa said in a proud tone. “I'm not surprised that their household problems will be full of drama. Vivaldo, Sherry, Dicky, then Nora. I don't know who else will try to enter their marriage.”
“No. Doctor Gerhard is more than interested in him.” Mama looked at me carefully. “What do I think is right?”
“Doctor Gerhard was my classmate at SMU, Auntie.” I decided to speak honestly. Because hearing from Mama's tone, it seems like she's testing me. Maybe he's been investigating who that guy is. Once you find out what SMU came from, it will be easy to connect him with me.
“That means he's also in class with your ex.” Mom smiled. I'm nodding. “The man who likes you is not an average man. A businessman, an employee at the ministry, and now a doctor.”
“Honey,” says Papa reminds Mama.
“I'm just telling the truth, Pa. I'm not spreading rumors or lies,” Mama said in self-defense. He looked towards me. “You know, when I came to see him or when he went to the room and you weren't there, he asked me how you were. She's not married, who knows you're interested in her. There's no harm in giving him a chance.”
“Tante, I already have a husband.” I looked at him not understanding.
“It was not a hindrance to you before ..” said Mama who immediately cut Papa.
“So, this is why you went to see that doctor when we didn't have an appointment to see him today?” ask Papa. “Stop, babe. Even though we are Hendra's parents, we have no right to interfere in their marriage. Especially intentionally destroying it. Zahara loves our son, and vice versa. Stop this.”
“I just gave my opinion. No need to be so angry. Why can you forgive Zahara but not with Nora's fault?” asked Mama not to understand. “If Nora no longer gets a chance, why is Zahara still given a chance?”
“Zahara's fault is only one and he already paid for it very expensively. You saw for yourself that he didn't repeat it again. The lives of him and our son are now even much happier than they were before,” Papa said.
“Do not equate Zahara with Nora who is not serious about her regrets and who does not respect the meaning of the word sorry. If he had a guilty conscience, he would not repeat his evil deeds. But you've seen for yourself that he doesn't stop until what he wants he gets.”
“Why are you angry, baby? I didn't say that I was,” Mama said defensively.
“See, who is now standing in front of our house.” Papa growls not like. Mama and I looked at the windshield.
