The Untouched Heart

The Untouched Heart
Chapter 100 - Your Book is Ugly

The man did not help me at all by greeting me and waving his hand as me and my family left the restaurant. Hadi only returned his greeting politely without reducing the speed of his steps by my side.

Hendra unlocked the car, then sat Dira in his special seat. He wouldn't look at me at all. I got into the car with him. After we put on the seat belt, he drove the car away from the restaurant.

Both of our children were already sound when we arrived at the villa. As usual, I took care of Dira, while she helped Hadi. The dog greeted us immediately. This time he surprised me. Instead of following Hendra and Hadi, the little creature followed me to Dira's room. He barked happy to piss me off. It's late and my daughter needs to rest.

“Ara,” call Hendra from the doorway. He did not obey his master's call, instead barking bothers me. “Looks like he missed Dira. You can drop him off for a while so Ara can see him.” I obviously rejected the idea.

“This dog loves our child, you don't behave so.” Hendra held Dira then sat on the floor. The puppy sniffed, then looked sad because Dira did not return his greeting. “He's asleep. You can play with him again tomorrow morning.” Hendra rubbed the sad whimpering puppy's head.

After putting Dira to sleep, I headed to my room and again met Hendra who was not wearing clothes. The puppy stood nearby with his tail swaying happily. He heard his master tell him what he was doing with us earlier. I just passed them and went into the bathroom.

I quickly took a shower because the water was cold, then hurriedly put on one of my clean pajamas. My tongue suddenly wanted to enjoy a warm drink. I heard the atmosphere outside the room. Silent. Is Hendra and the puppy asleep? He looked angry at the restaurant earlier, I was afraid he would kill me if we were alone. The angry Hendra was terrible.

I opened the door and heard a voice from the television. But I don't see that guy anywhere. I closed the door and walked into the kitchen. He also had the same plan. He was in the kitchen making a warm drink that smelled of chocolate.

“You want marshmallows on your chocolate?” he asked, again showing that he still knows a lot about my favorite. “Good. I give you a few.”

“Add more,” I said without having time to prevent myself. I pouted seeing him smile triumphantly. He gave the mug my share. “Thank you.” Oh, dearGod. The electric shock again. Would I never get used to coming into contact with her without reacting?

“Our date today will be very interesting.” He picked up a book that I immediately recognized.

“You've finished reading it?” I just don't believe it.

“And I still stick to my original opinion. Your book is ugly.” He brought books and mugs into the front room. I followed him with a mug filled with my warm drink as well. He doesn't seem angry anymore. He did not mention anything about the incident at the restaurant.

“Why did you say that? Publishers will not want to publish the book if the story is as bad as you say it is. And the reader's response won't be as good as I've received either. Did you not know that the book has entered the third print in just less than a year?” I defended my work as hard as I could. I sat on the sofa beside him.

“You must change your character in the fourth book if you want to get a better welcome.” He covered my feet with a blanket. “You ready?”

“Please attack me,” I replied undaunted. He's laughing a little.

“First, Za, don't create a story where the two characters desperately fight for their love if at the end they don't end up together. You will only make the reader's emotions wasted. We prayed, hoping for your two leading figures, but you separated them instead? What's wrong with you?”

“And your female characters are very wishy-washy. If you want, say you want. Nope, no. Why did he give such great hope to the man? Then in the end choose another man who has been betrothed by his family to him? The reason for that was simply because he did not want to trouble the man he loved? We men would rather die for the woman we love than see her happy with another.” he said fieryly.

“You are talking about the characters in the story and not mixing it with the story in real life, ‘kan?” my question is full of search.

“No. I'm purely upset because of the stupidity of the main character in your book,” he said seriously.

“If the man is like you mentioned, he will not stop fighting. He will take the woman eloped,” reply me casually.

“Where? Where did your character ever say it?” he asked while opening the pages of the book in his hand.

“That's your next mistake. That's why I said last night, I know how you think. So I know that your book will be easy to guess.” He put the book on the table. “Za, your character can not hope that the man can read everything in his mind. He should say it. You are not enough to just express love, you have to convey what is in your head.”

I looked at him for a moment. He shakes his head to see me not responding. “Why do I feel that you are scolding me and not the character of the book?”

“Because he is the result of engineering your own mind.” He shook his head slowly. “I hope you're even better on your fourth book. Stop using weak female characters so.”

“Are you saying that I am weak?” I'm starting to dislike. He just kept quiet means my guess was right. “You're still mad because I slept with Aldo?” He's laughing a little.

“We are divorced. I don't care who you sleep with out there as long as you take good care of our child.” Fucking liar. If he didn't care, he wouldn't sound angry.

“As long as we discuss this, I want to clarify something.” Finally, the opportunity I had been waiting for came as well. “Me and Aldo didn't sleep twice. Just one time and I didn't enjoy it the way you and Aldo claimed all along. We're not lovers either, we're never back together.”

“What's the difference? You want to sleep any time with him will not change the fact that you gave mine to another man.”

“I know this won't change anything. I just want to reduce the burden that presses on my shoulders. Aldo lied about me and I have the right to defend myself. I'm not as bad as you think.”

“I never thought bad of you, Za. You misunderstood. I leave you to be happy with the man you love. And even if I say it, I don't hate you. Don't make our divorce a burden to you. Find your happiness.” He raised his hand to prevent me from speaking. “Enough. No need to talk about the past anymore. I told you, we're just gonna hurt each other.”

“Good. It's up to you.” I glanced at the book. “I didn't make you like my book. Tell me, what do you want?”

“I can ask for anything and you will fulfill it, ‘kan?” said confirmed.

“Iya. I will not break my promise,” I replied firmly.

“Tell me what happened that night so you were pregnant with Dira.” He's correct. I regret the deal I made with him.
