Being able to have dinner with my family that season is something I really like. Moreover, the event had been prepared secretly by my husband. Even though I only met them two nights ago at my birthday party, we didn't have a chance to talk. Someone interrupted our conversation. My sister's presence perfected our dinner.
But knowing the problem my parents were facing, I couldn't help but think about it seriously. When Zach was talking to Hendra and both of my parents were busy with their own conversations, I was busy with my own thoughts.
I still don't know what to do to be able to earn such a large sum of money within a month. Mama's right. Working is not a solution. We don't have much time left.
Zach has only started working for the past two years after completing his studies in law. His opinion was not great and only enough for himself. He deserves to have a little fun with his hard work. It would be unfair to ask him to cover the costs needed to save our home and our mother.
Borrowing money is not the best solution. What would people say later if they knew that I as Hendra's wife had no money so they had to borrow. My husband has a lot of money. Big enough to finance the lives of some of our descendants later if they use the money wisely.
But asking my husband for help was not an option I wanted to make. I once promised in my heart that I would not take a penny from him. Only gifts in the form of goods that I will receive. That's what I did for our wedding. I do not want to raise rumors among the servants if I continue to refuse his gifts in front of them.
“It is time you gave us grandchildren,” Mama said expectantly. All eyes looked towards him. “You've been married for so long but I haven't held my own granddaughter yet. I get jealous whenever my friends show off their grandchildren.”
“We're trying, Ma. We will not disappoint Mama,” said Hendra cheerfully.
“Be careful, Brother. Later your body will become fat and ugly,” taunted Zach. “In Hendra's office there are many young and beautiful women. If you don't take care of her and your body shape, she could just turn to another woman.”
“Ma, Zach humiliates me,” my ad to Mama. They just laughed when they heard it.
“You must learn to complain to your own husband, Ara. Mama can't be your defender anymore. That's your husband's role,” Mama said with a meaningful smile.
“Hendra was happy to hear Zach mocking me. He just laughed and didn't say anything to defend me,” I complained annoyed.
“Good, good. I'm sorry,” said Hendra who stopped laughing and turned his head towards my sister. “Zach, stop bothering my wife. I love her and there will be no other woman who can take her place in my heart.”
“What about your position in his heart? Are you sure that my dear brother has enough love for you that he won't turn to another man?” Zach Goda. I felt my body stiffen.
“Zach,” protests Papa who knows full well that that is the reality. He certainly did not want Hendra to take Zach's words seriously.
“I'm just kidding, Pa. No need to be serious so,” said Zach casually. He looked at me and Hendra. “You two had an unpleasant start, but you two are so compatible. Brother Ara and Brother Hendra are very compatible. Anyone who sees you together, will not believe that you are not crazy about each other.”
“Kak,” Zach looks at me with a serious face. “Six years is not a short time. I hope Big Brother can think wisely and act carefully towards the marriage of the two of you. Hendra loves you very much. There will be no other man who can love you like him.”
“Since the first time you have always been on Hendra's side. Of course you won't stop praising him sky-high.” I'm pouting.
“Is there anything wrong with what I said? Did Brother Hendra ever hurt you?” challenge Zach. I squinted my eyes at him.
It's just, I'm afraid they'll talk about my feelings to my husband and I'll just act stupid by admitting that I don't love him. I'm afraid I'd say that I still love other men.
“No.” And that's the truth. Hendra is a good man and husband.
“Means I don't praise her excessively.” Zach stuck out his tongue.
“Are you going to let him keep doing that to me?” I told my husband. Hendra laughed a little.
“Zach, I'm serious. If you don't stop bothering my wife, I will end our cooperation and seek another legal counsel,” Hendra said with a wink. I lifted my chin, challenging my sister with my eyes. Zach laughed a little.
“OK, okay. I won't bother my sister anymore.” Zach finally gave up. I smiled triumphantly. But of course Zach doesn't stop there. He still teases me and deliberately makes me angry.
After enjoying a bowl of ice cream and fruit, my family decided to go home. Although I was sad that our conversation and debate had to end, I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the night. I love being myself every time I'm with my family.
Hendra bathed under the shower behind the curtain while at the same time I washed my face and brushed my teeth in the bathroom. I could hear him singing a song. A love song, to be exact. I'm usually worried about seeing her so happy, but not tonight. I am so happy that I am not worried about anything.
If tonight she wants to have sex with me, I won't turn her down. I think I need it too. I'm not usually like this. Maybe because the surprise after surprise he gave, made my heart feel lighter.
I came out of the bathroom when I heard the water stop. He'll open the curtain in a moment and I don't want to interfere with his privacy. I had just finished changing clothes when he came to our clothes room. He only laughed as I hurried out of the room. I couldn't help myself smiling. Sometimes the laughter is contagious.
“I already know where we should go on our next holiday,” I said happily as he turned off the room lights and turned on the nightstand.
“Oh, yes?” ask Hendra. I nodded my head. “Then, we will go there, according to your wishes.”
“Thank you for inviting my family to dinner with us.” I opened the blanket and lay down on the side of my bed.
“Are you happy?” asked Hendra who was lying by my side.
“Iya,” I answer honestly.
“I'm glad to hear it.” She wrapped her hands around my waist and kissed my lips. “Come, we do it. Come on, let's give Mama a grandchild.”
I haven't been able to answer because she kissed me again.
