The Marriage Order

The Marriage Order
Goodbye

Baruna PoVs

The quiet atmosphere of the hospital at that time became a silent witness to all the future that we might live in our next days. Sheryl followed my footsteps that were walking fast, half-running. We were in such a hurry. Don't want to miss a second of stuff time.

Grandpa, I'm coming!

Ting!

Hospital elevator open. Sheryl and I walked into the ICU. Mom and Dad are waiting at the door of the room. Sheryl and I entered the room, followed by them. We saw Grandpa Awan with his eyes open still using various life support tools.

"Grandfather ..," lirihku.

Grandfather Clouds looked at our faces in turn. His mouth is gaping because there is a breathing apparatus that goes into the throat so that it makes him unable to speak. Sheryl and I held her hand. He clasped our hands back together, then nodded hinting at us to be together at all times. Tears began to flood both corners of her eyes.

I raised my head withstanding the tears that might fall at any moment. Sheryl turned her face away, she was crying bitterly but did not want to be seen in Grandpa Awan's eyes. Father and Mother who were also in the room also sobbed.

Suddenly Grandpa Awan's state declined unconscious again. The numbers on the monitor dropped dramatically from the normal numbers. The nurses and doctors who were there were trembling just staring at Grandpa Awan's departure slowly. Our family has indeed signed a refusal of pulmonary cardiac resuscitation on him. We cannot bear to see him in pain if the doctor performs the medical procedure as a basic life aid.

Not long after the doctor stated that Grandpa Awan was dead. The ECG results in a straight line. There was no sign of life in his body. At once we all sobbed to hear the words of the guard doctor at that time.

Dad is the hardest hit figure facing that reality. He stared at the guard doctor filled with disappointment and sadness.

"Tell me my dad is still there! You're a doctor, you should be able to save someone's life!" enragedly.

The doctor looked in the face of the father was about to say something but Mother had been out mediating.

"Mas, relax .... The doctor did his best too. We also agreed not to resuscitate, right?" said Mother to calm Dad.

Dad was silent, tears started flooding his cheeks. I don't know what he's thinking right now, but I do know that he's the one who's most sorry for Grandpa's passing. I hugged Sheryl who was still sobbing. Brushed her messy hair. My heart is also broken at this time.

I looked into Sheryl's face. Wiped the tears in both corners of her eyes with my thumb. He looked back at me by doing the same. Unconsciously, my tears just flowed as well.

I immediately pulled Sheryl's hand out of the ICU room, followed by Mother walking behind us. Dad was still inside accompanying Grandpa's corpse which had been stiffened.

At 15:30 pm ....

Kayla and I got into the car after Baruna and Sheryl, who left us. I drove the car hard trying to catch up with him. Kayla rounded her eyes in shock when she saw me so eager to chase after Baruna.

"Can you slow down your vehicle, Rey. I'm scared" he asked.

I still with my eyes focused towards the road, saying to her, "If you don't want to come with me, I can drop you down in front of there!"

Kayla flinched, held back in annoyance, maybe she was also very anxious with my always rude attitude towards her.

"Yes, you can put me down there. Later I will report your treatment to me ...."

"My mama?" I cut his words. "You think I don't memorize your threats, Kay? Always use my mother's name to threaten."

"Yes then why? You don't like it? I'm his ideal son-in-law and you can't deny that, Rey" she said.

"Whatever! Just so you know, I wanted to go to the basketball championship event as well because there was Sheryl there," I obviously stared intently at her.

Kayla was silent, not struggling. My anger has become a daily snack for him. He also knows how I behave towards him.

"You want to cry?" tanyaku.

He didn't answer. He just turned his face out the window.

"Down me in front of there. Let my manager pick me up later. Wonder, how can I like a guy like you?" pissed back.

"Ask your heart that. I don't have the answer either."

"You're really outrageous. I think there's still a little chance for me."

"I never said that. I've told you that you'll get sick many times if you keep insisting."

"A little bit, aren't there any feelings?" tanyanya glazed at me.

I kept quiet and did not answer the question. Immediately, I pulled my vehicle over at a stop. Kayla opened the car door and came out with an annoyed face. He was singing his mouth, pouting at me. I ignored the look on the pretty girl's face and rushed to press my gas pedal again to continue the journey.

Kayla, until when are you going to keep chasing me like this?

After a while, I arrived at the lobby. Soon, I grabbed my phone, called Baruna. Long time I waited for the phone to be picked up, it did not feel like I was in front of the ICU room to see Sheryl, Baruna, and Aunt Meri who came out of the room filled with tears.

It can't be, can it? Time Grandpa ....

Aunt Meri who saw me standing there immediately stepped towards me. Hugged me while crying sadly.

"Tante, is Grandpa ....?" my question was immediately cut off with a nod of his head.

I returned the hug, trying to calm her down. Baruna and Sheryl who saw us came straight for us. Aunt Meri took off her arms and hugged Baruna and Sheryl alternately. I spread my eyes around. There's no Anton's father there.

"Aunty, where's dad?" my many.

Aunt Meri pulled my hand and took me inside the ICU. I saw the father crying so hard. I stepped closer to the bed with my grandfather's body covered with a white cloth.

I patted dad's shoulder. He looked at me, hugging tightly. Crying again shows his regret.

"I'm sorry, Son. Dad is not a good father. Not a good husband for your mother either" he said slowly.

"Already Dad. It's all over. I'm sorry I misjudged you too."

Dad let go of his embrace, smiled at me, and said, "Thank you, son."

A feeling of warmth suddenly burst into the body slowly. I felt peaceful for a moment. The tightness that has been lingering in my heart all this time just disappeared yawning in place of a spacious heart.

"Dad, I'm sorry." Only that word can come out of your mouth.

Father looked at my face raising both corners of his lips. I also returned that little smile. We made peace from then on.
