It's the third day I came to the hospital. My watch shows at half-eight in the morning. I saw Aunt Meri sitting in a sleepy waiting room in the ICU. I stepped towards him.
"Tante ...," call me.
Aunt Meri turned to look at me. He smiled with a tired face. Keep waiting for Kak Baruna with the hope that he might wake up today.
"Sheryls! It's coming, son."
I nodded, then sat down beside him.
"What's that in your hand?" Aunt Meri glanced at the innate direction I was carrying.
"Food, Aunt."
"Goodoo. Aunty's coming home for a little while, coming back here."
"No need, Auntie. I'll wait until tomorrow if I have to. Aunt just take a break."
"No, no. Later that night Aunt will be back," he refused.
"All right."
"I'm sorry Aunt, this should be the happiest day for you. Your marriage is annulled by this disaster." Aunt Meri rubbed my head gently. Today is Sunday, the day of our wedding was supposed to be.
"Regarding that, I really don't matter. The important thing is that Brother Baruna can recover" I said.
"Sheryl, Baruna will definitely wake up. He'll be healed. Rest assured!" entertain Aunt Meri.
"Yes, I'm sure he's strong. I will always be beside her, forever," I replied as I lifted the two corners of thin lips.
"Patience, dear," Aunt Meri hugged my body tightly for a moment, then let go. "Don't eat late. Your body looks thinner. Aunty doesn't want Aunt's daughter-in-law to be sick."
"Yes, Auntie," I said.
Aunt Meri turned her body towards the elevator. There were actually quite a few people in that waiting room. However, it felt so lonely and only I sat there alone while continuing to be pensive.
Honey, how do you get out of a coma? I can't keep going like this. I'm so guilty of you.
Drrt-drrt-drr!
The sound of a cell phone ringing. I took my phone from the small bag I was carrying. Mr. Reynand's name is displayed on the smartphone screen.
"What else, sir? I think it's all done."
"Sheryl, I don't know how to forgive myself. I'm really sorry I did that to you. I will be responsible for my actions."
"That's it, what has happened cannot be repeated. We were both wrong. You have to live your own life. I will also live my own life. If you want to make up for it, marry Kayla. I'd be very grateful."
"Then you?"
"I will stay beside Baruna no matter what. Together with him or not. I'll take that risk."
"No! If you are not happy, I also choose to be unhappy. I will not be selfish and marry someone else. The woman I love is unhappy."
I let out a breath. Mr. Reynand is a very stubborn man. He will not give up easily with just rejection.
"Sir Rey, enough!"
I turned off the phone. Then stand up and step into the ICU room, where it is right with the visiting hours.
My eyeballs were fixed on Kak Baruna's face. For three days he has not shown any significant development. I grabbed his hand and held it tightly. Kissing the back of my hand so many times while shedding tears.
"Dear, please wake up! Don't torture me like this. I'm just a stupid woman who wasted you. Because of me, you're lying here now" I murmured in self-blame. Not long after my tears came back.
I turned to look towards him. Take his eyes sharp. I was upset when my expression of sadness was interrupted by the nurse's warning.
"I'm talking to my fiancee! You have no right to mix it up!" my yelling.
"Sorry Ma'am, any comatose patient will hear every voice around him. They are aware of what we are talking about. If it's something bad, we're worried it'll make things worse, too" he explained.
I was silent to the nurse's explanation. My sadness made me forget that she could still hear every word I said. I should have comforted him and given him strength. Not busy just blaming yourself.
"Do you understand?" ask the nurse again.
I'm nodding. The nurse then exited the room. Leaving me with Brother Baruna. Just the two of them in that glass room.
"Darling, today we're supposed to get married. Our love should be united. So please, wake up. Missed you!" I kept holding his hand. Then, caress her peaceful face.
No response at all. Makes me even sadder. He was like an undead person who could not be spoken to.
"Dear, I love you." I kissed Brother Baruna's forehead. Looked in his face.
Not long after, the nurse came again to warn, "Sir, the visit time is up. You can wait for the patient outside."
I just looked around, not answering her words. Then, close my lips to Kak Baruna's earlobe while whispering, "Honey, I came out first. If you feel sick, you can call my name and I'll be here soon."
I turned around leaving him who continued to fall asleep. I don't know when I'll wake up. Should I give up? It's been three days and there's been no development at all.
I opened the door of the room bowing my head, busy wiping away the droplets of tears that kept falling down my cheeks as I continued to look at the marble floor of the hospital in cream and pink.
"Sheril!"
A man's voice called my name. A voice I had long forgotten. I looked up, found Fandy and Wildan standing not far from where I was standing.
They walked up to me. I smiled faintly seeing Wildan coming with his partner who is also my ex-girlfriend__Fandy.
Wildan stared into my face, then hugged warmly. The hug of a friend I so longed for, as a supporter of everything that made me fragile.
"Prophey, Sher. Everything's gonna be fine. Baruna will wake up and look for lo" he entertained while staring into my eyeballs.
I came back crying. Everyone who comes to strengthen, for some reason I feel so sad, so guilty for everything that has happened.
Wildan took off his embrace. He wiped my tears, then said, "Gue sure you are strong. Even when dealing with someone who's so obsessed you're like Satya."
"It's different, Wil. Baruna is on the verge of life and death. Tell me how I should be strong? He suffered like that!"
Wildan took me to sit. His hand rubbed my hair gently. His attention as a friend at this time was so warm that it made me feel comfortable even if only for a moment.
"God knows best. Mr. Baruna is not a person who gives up easily. He'll be back to health" Fandy added.
I turned towards the man, "Thank you for your concern, Fan."
"Sheryl, sorry I just found out. Really, I did not think your marriage would be canceled because of the accident that hit Baruna. Fandy came back here, he wanted to come to your wedding reception" Wildan explained.
"Sorry to trouble you."
"We don't feel bothered. You are like our brother. Even if our situation in the past wasn't good" Wildan said.
"Thank you."
"We want to see Mr. Baruna. Can't do that?" ask Fandy.
I'm nodding. They entered the gloomy room, leaving me to sit alone. I grabbed my phone and saw our memories together on the gallery menu. Tears are coming back.
