Emitting a bright light, Gerald could feel the power within the rock, even from afar.
"Truly an incredible object!" gerald murmured to himself, overjoyed.
However, just as he was about to pick up the water-repellent stone, Gerald's ear suddenly heard the sound of a rope being dropped from one of the upper tunnels.
…someone?
A few seconds later, Gerald heard when the unknown man began to slide down the rope. With that, Gerald quickly hid in a corner to see who it was.
Not long after that a woman jumped down. As soon as he saw the water-repellent stone, he immediately smiled before clapping.
“So it's really here! I can finally leave once I get the stone! ” the woman said to herself in a gentle tone.
“...That's it?” whispered Gerald to anyone in particular as he continued to watch her from the corner where she had hidden her.
The girl in question is of course, Yume!
After descending Mount Langvern, Gerald returned to Yarne Manor to discuss a few more things with Wagner. That's when a waiter told him that Yume was gone.
While Gerald already knew that the girl was quite outstanding because he knew a little martial arts, he really did not expect that she was also looking for a water repellent stone! In fact, it was quite amazing that he knew where to find it!
Thinking about it, Gerald could not help but smile a bit bitterly. He could never have imagined that he would actually end up accidentally saving the life of his rival!
Just as he was wondering how he should deal with it, he suddenly heard a terrifying shriek.
Yume herself had kept her hands away from the water-repellent stone when she heard the deafening screeches. Looking up, he immediately saw a huge and terrifying black shadow swooping towards him from above!
As the shadow continued to make a frightening sound, Yume quickly fell backwards and rolled to the side to avoid the shadow. However, by doing so, he could not get the stone.
With the size of its head almost the same as that of a human, its most striking features are its long, unbroken red hair and exposed fangs. Together, these features make it look similar to a human with a very hideous face.
Saliva dripped from his grinning mouth, the bat looked at Yume with its ferocious eyes before letting out another deafening scream!
After which, he leaped towards her with incredible speed and strength!
While he can dodge the bat's front foot attack, Yume fails to dodge his tail wing attack in time! As a result, he was hit right in the chest which made him fly!
Bumping hard to the ground, Yume could feel her wounds starting to hurt again as she felt blood seeping out of her stomach.
The bat itself will not give Yume time to recover. Treading menacingly towards the injured girl, it seemed to be enjoying the thought of immediately enjoying a delicious meal.
'...Am... Am I really going to die here...? That stupid Ghost Master! I shouldn't have believed her words before! If I make it out alive, I will burn his church if that is the last thing I do! Otherwise, he would just continue to deceive others! To think that she would actually say that my marriage was…'
As Yume thought to herself, she remembered how she immediately went down the mountain before heading straight to the Minshall family ancestral mine to obtain the water-repellent stone.
Everything went very well too... Thinking that he would actually die here was eaten alive by this ferocious beast... It made her feel nauseous even thinking about it.
Taking a deep breath, Yume quickly unsheathed his dagger before pointing it at himself. With eyes closed and ready to end his own life, he first muttered, “I'm sorry, grandma! I am truly sorry for not being able to head to the palace of the king of the seas! ”
Before he could thrust his sword at himself, he heard the giant bat shrill again!
…Just followed by the sound of something heavy hitting the ground?
Opening her eyes, Yume found herself staring in disbelief at the dead beast that was now unfolding before her. Is that ... dead? But how?
It was then that Gerald finally revealed his presence while saying, “It seems like I have saved your life again, beautiful!”
