After returning the greeting, Misty then turned to look at her group before saying, “Let's get rid of the introduction first. This is Gerald and I only knew him yesterday. He's a pretty good guy and he even saved me, you know?”
“Huh! So this is the guy! If she is aware that we are attending a treasure exchange event, then why would she still choose to dress up as she is today?” said one of the other women in a somewhat disdainful manner while crossing her arms.
His comments stemmed from the fact that the exchange event was a sort of gathering mostly reserved for prestigious people. Since only those in power and influence were expected to attend, leather suits and shoes were considered the norm at such events.
Since Gerald was the only one dressed like a tourist, it was no wonder why Misty's friends found him rather embarrassing.
He's not the only one either. Some of his friends thought the same thing.
“It's okay, isn't it? We're just gonna have fun together! ” replied Misty who seemed oblivious to her friends' dislike of Gerald.
With that, they all entered Balbrick's manor together. The manor itself was vast, and according to what Misty told Gerald, the exchange event was divided into outer and inner areas.
While the outer area only featured ordinary antiques and treasures, the inner area was reserved for so-called, 'goods'.
As they walked around, Lydia Jolly— one of Misty—'s friends looked at one of the men in their group before saying, “Tell Jamie, I just saw her, but is the clock new?”
“I'm glad you noticed! It's true!”
"Oh? How much?” ask Lydia.
“It's not too expensive, really. Only about three thousand dollars! I still buy it, because the style of this watch perfectly fits my suit!” answer Jamie Warner.
"How rich are you!" misty said, a hint of jealousy in his voice.
Even though he said that, Misty did not think too much about it. He was quite happy with the fact that everyone was enjoying themselves together.
“So... Then what about the suit? How much is it?”
"Because!" lydia replied as she and the other two men and women in the group continued to discuss their clothes and lifestyle.
It was proven that Lydia was adept at getting other people to do the dirty work for her. After all, he deliberately started the topic just to embarrass Gerald.
She tried her best to ostracize and make him leave because she felt that she was embarrassing for him and his friends because of how badly she dressed for such a big event.
What's more, he was honestly a little upset with her because he had initially assumed that Gerald was a rich young man or at least, a charming prince after Misty told them about his savior.
Although he had to admit that he was quite handsome, in the end, he was just a poorly dressed loser!
Because of all that, Lydia felt the need to make her understand how different she was from them.
As the plan continued to go smoothly, someone suddenly shouted, “How dare you try to display that thing next to our belongings? Are you trying to embarrass us? Scram!"
Turning to see who was causing the commotion, everyone saw an old man who seemed to be trying to set up his own stall to display his treasure.
Since he was able to bring her here from the very beginning, it was evident that he had successfully passed the treasure identification procedure.
Despite having the right to set up their own kiosk there, most of the others who had set up their own stalls for the event came from extended families, including some people close to where the old man tried to set up his stall.
There was no one else in the inner area who was a random person like the old man, either, which gives the — kiosk owner who has set up a kiosk near where the old man plans to set him up — even more reasons to make him leave.
Sighing, the old man knew that this would not work. While raising his treasure—which looked like an iron plaque—in his hand, he began to walk looking for another place to set up his stall.
When Gerald saw the old man leave, he felt his eyelids twitch slightly as he looked at the iron plaque well.
Gerald could feel his heart pounding as he continued to stare at the iron plaque that had patches all over its surface. It was a feeling he had rarely experienced since he became one of the champions.
