"Over his life, my father has been a hero to many people, including me ... You can imagine how surprised I was when I found out that instead of the strong man I always dreamed of, he was actually, one of the weakest. I had never seen him cry in fear like he did that night. However, once I did, I started to waver a little. What exactly did my father go through until he ended up scared like that? What really happens during the holy water promise? All these questions made me insist on investigating the promise! My fear of failure has been the reason why I keep wanting to increase my strength!” christopher added, his eyes were now reddened.
“...So you're saying, according to your father, those who didn't come back didn't die? Are you saying that they were taken somewhere else instead? ” replied Gerald, confused.
The incident was very similar to Mila's disappearance. In any case, the victims of both incidents had received some sort of barang—hik holy water, in this case—before it finally disappeared.
Instead of simply accepting that she was dead, Gerald always believed that Mila had been captured by someone else and was still alive. What Christopher had just told him greatly increased the possibilities of his theory.
Is the Sun League — after sharing their stuff — really responsible for all those disappearances? But the world is a very big place.Where can all the kidnapped people be taken…?
“To be precise.. The place itself is a place my father feared so much and did not dare to go there! So... after telling you all that, please.. I beg you…! Please allow me to die with the promise of holy water! ” said Christopher while kneeling in front of Gerald.
“You are really capable of doing anything to reach your destination, aren't you, old man?” gerald replied, feeling speechless.
Shaking his head, Gerald's voice turned cold as he added, “Alright, I will save your life, on three conditions!”
"T-please, state!"
"First of all, those from the Moldell family must give up on any Crawford they meet!"
“I... I agree with that!”
“Secondly, you are prohibited from leaving the Moldell family palace before the promise of holy water officially begins. If I find out that you're trying to leave before then, I'll end you when I can. Hope you realize that you are no longer able to beat me!”
"Understood! I'll stay indoors!”
“For the last condition, I will hold your mysterious mirror for now,” Gerald said as he extended his hand.
As he does so, the mysterious mirror— that Christopher hid behind his sleeve— flew into Gerald's hand!
“Omong-by the way, I have put poison-based poison into your body. I'm saying this so you know that if you don't comply with any of the three conditions, the poison will melt all of your internal organs. Oh, and don't try to force him out. The result will be like you killed yourself,” Gerald added, his tone even colder than before.
'This gerald... How cruel is he! He might as well kill me here and now!'
Despite feeling that way, Christopher is well aware that he has no choice but to comply. He has to stay alive.
“...I... I promise!”
"good. Now lost!” gerald ridiculed as he waved his hand, gesturing for the old man to leave.
Letting Christopher live up to the promise of holy water is by no means a benevolent act. Instead, it was because his grandfather knew very little about the promise himself, seeing that it was his first time attending it.
No one knows for sure what will happen during the holy water pledge, so Gerald needs to make sure that someone with deep faith and knowledge of the pledge stays by Daryl's side.
Christopher is the perfect candidate for that.
Now that he has control over Christopher, Gerald knows that the old fox will obey no matter how cunning he usually is.
However, at this point in time, the appointment will be made in less than three months. Knowing that, Gerald knew he needed to speed up his pace. Moreover, he still wanted to investigate the secret of the immortal coffin as well.
Now that he had surpassed the realm of legends, he wondered if his death prophecy would still come true.
Eliminating that thought, he then quickly left the desert and began his journey back to the small town where he first met Giya again.
Speaking of Giya, he tries to find her all the way back, though there is no sign of her or any other researcher. He, however, can find traces that Giya and the others have left the desert.
Sure enough, when he finally arrived in the small town, Gerald bumped into them upon entering the Bacht Hotel. Well, what's left of the big group, that is.
Most of the people from before had already left, and only a few people from the initial group of tourists remained. They and the only woman from the research team who now appear to be working at the hotel.
