There were a few moments when Jessica didn't think at all about the age difference between her and Nathan. Sometimes he doesn't care about it. He knew that there were a lot of people who were more than ten years older than their partner. For example, his father, who is six years older than his mother. See it? It makes no difference. Although it could cause Jessica to become upset when people are constantly talking about her. Like the man in front of him at the moment...
"Oh, are you still in college? So how can a teacher like Nathan be with you? Ah, don't tell me it's the relationship between teacher and student?"
"No," Jessica explained briefly.
Jessica looked around, wondering where Nathan was at the moment. The young man had told him that he needed to go to the bathroom. Yeah, that was five minutes ago.
Jessica started to feel fed up when people were 'drinking' and it caused them to be relaxed, many of them laughing and joking there were even some who were spilling things. Jessica used to be one of them.
But that night he held a wine glass in his hand and took a soft sip, standing obediently by Nathan's side. She's not like the usual Jessica.
"Nathan and I met at an art gallery," he replied, somewhat exaggerating the truth but Jessica didn't really care. One fact! He doesn't like Nathan's friends. Most of them looked annoying and too smart for him. "He was looking at a fruit painting in the basket at the time" he continued
The man nodded. "ah, that's. I know the painting. It was a work of art from...."
Jessica didn't want to hear anything from him anymore. Nor would he admit to her that he did not know what she was talking about. Jessica doesn't really think art is interesting.
"So what do you think of that?" he asked Jessica again, sipping alcoh*l from her beer bottle.
Jessica looked around again, wondering when Nathan would reappear and save himself from this silly man. He leaned against the back of the chair just as the man seemed to be moving closer. He lifted his arm and placed it onto the handle of the chair near Jessica.
"Yes, I think it's just a fruit basket," Jessica replied lazily. "I don't know much about art. Ah, I don't like it."
"I understand" the man replied "So what do you know? What do you like?"
"Mathematics" Jessica replied.
"Mathematics is something I've always mastered. Then you're a smart guy. Don't you have to be smart to get into accounting."
"really?" Jessica wondered, looked around again and begged herself to Nathan to come. "It's an interesting conversation. But I'm sorry I had to go find Nathan."
"Wait," she replied to him, the man's hands wrapped around Jessica's wrists as Jessica turned her head and looked back at her with arched eyebrows. "We just got to know each other, Jessica."
"Yes and but that's not the reason for this?" jessica replied as she glanced at the man's grip on her arm.
"Nathan is not an attractive man" said the man suddenly.
"No, but he's a gentleman and I came here with him" Jessica replied and she took a sip of his wine.
Slowly, he pushed the glass in his hand and deliberately let the alcohol fall into the front of the man's shirt, soaking his clothes. Jessica put a hand to her mouth, pretending to be surprised at her own actions
The man's eyebrows looked curled, he looked at Jessica with a shocked look as he released the grip on Jessica's wrist then he looked down, into the damp spot on his shirt.
"Geez," Jessica spoke, her tone sounding insincere. He placed his wine glass on the table behind him carefully, making sure that he did not drop any table decoration on the table. "I honestly didn't mean to do that. I don't know what got into me to put you at a disadvantage like this."
The man barely looked impressed by Jessica's actions as he glared at her, he kept quiet so she wouldn't make a fuss at the party. With one last chance she had to run away and put on an innocent-looking smile, Jessica chose to climb the stairs, looking for Nathan.
Jesaica then stopped climbing the stairs and chose to sit on one of the steps. Nathan is confused. He slowly leaned over and sat down on the stairs next to Jessica.
"What's wrong? What's wrong?" Nathan wonders.
"I just had to protect myself from one of your creepy friends" Jessica said, shaking her head.
"Which one?" Nathan wondered to Jessica.
"I don't know what her name is," Jessica replied indifferently. "But I deliberately poured wine over her clothes. Ck, I think he must understand the message."
"Danny," Nathan murmured, trying to deduce who one of his friends was creepy enough to be. "sorry. I should have come down to see you."
"I'm fine" Jessica replied. "Better than you, Nathan."
Shaking his head, Nathan raised his hand to Jessica's hair and stroked the girl's hair. He shook his head as a reality hit his mind.
Nathan knows that he's thinking senseless things right now. To be honest there was no need for him to be afraid of such a thing. But he couldn't help himself. Nathan doesn't know why. He suspected that he was becoming more susceptible to people's opinions than he had previously thought.
"I honestly don't know why I'm so bothered to think about this. I know people will ask about how we met. To be honest, I also feel that our current age difference is indeed quite large" Nathan said slowly.
"Nathan" whispered Jessica.
Jessica then shook her head to stop Nathan from saying anything further to her.
"I'm sorry, but the more I think about it, the more visible our age difference will be. After all, those people are right. You're really much prettier Jessica. Nah! You're very pretty and you can get a lot more than-"
"Shut up!" cut Jessica off, her voice loud as she talks to him. "Stop talking!"
Jessica immediately stood on the stairs, her hands on her hips as she stared at the young man.
"What people say! Whatever people think, it doesn't matter at all, Nathan. The people here don't know anything, do they? They don't know who you are and they don't know who I am. Yes, I know that I am twenty years old. I also know that I'm very young, but what's the difference? I like you so much.maybe it's not what my father wanted.but I do like you."
"Jessica, I-"
"Let's stand!" said Jessica.
Jessica then reached out her hand to Nathan, she looked at the young man, urging him to grab his hand immediately. Jessica waited patiently for a few seconds and Nathan finally raised his painless hand to accept the girl's helping hand in his hand. He stood up and looked back at Jessica as the girl gently smiled at him.
"Can we go now?" Jessica asked to be sure. "You need to stop thinking about this ridiculous thing. And also.I have to get out of here before that pervert comes and accuses me of throwing my drink at his clothes."
Nathan nodded. She grabbed Jessica by the hand, led her back down the stairs and to where she had put her coat on one of the tables.
"Technically you did throw your drink at him" Nathan replied.
"Yes, okay! I did want to throw my glass at her earlier and it ended with just spilling a drink" Jessica and Nathan replied grabbing her coat and putting it on her arm. He slowly led Jessica towards the door, opened it and made sure no one noticed as they slipped in the darkness of the night.
