"So, can I know why we're here? Why did you choose to spend time here?" Jessica asked again.
"Father is just trying to educate you, Jessica," Robert replied to Jessica. "And your mother also thought that it was a good idea for you to go to this place."
Jessica grieved hearing that, "Mom would love it if I spent my time in a place like this."
"really?"
"Yes, I always thought that I would spend every weekend going out and getting drunk" Jessica replied.
"But you did go, right?"
"Yes, it's because I'm bored. I haven't had much time for me since Uncle John came. After all, she always assumed that I was a naughty girl. So just let him think about what he wants to think about me."
"And I don't know about that." Robert looked at Jessica.
"About what?"
"On your problems."
Jessica chuckled cynically, "Yes, I never know."
Robert sighed, turning his face away with a wry smile. How could he know anything about Jessica if he knew she had a child after years of separation from her ex-wife. Just imagine, he was first told about Jessica when the girl was fifteen years old. His ex-wife had kept a secret about his daughter's presence when they divorced.
His ex-wife told Robert that the reason was because she did not want Jessica to be around Robert or any danger that was nearby.
And he doesn't want them to be in touch. The last time they were with someone tried to shoot them. And Jessica's mom thinks that Robert must have been involved in something to do with the mafia. Robert had agreed with it even he also stated that it would be better for Jessica not to know him.
But then selfishness began to take hold of him. He then began tracking down the address of his ex-wife. And after that Robert has also done the best he can to rebuild an intact relationship with his daughter.
And of course the two of them had no idea what Robert had actually done all along. Jessica and her mother assume that Robert has a side job at the Ministry of Defense. That's what Robert's been holding onto for all this time and he'll hide this for as long as he can.
Actually Robert thought to end all his secrets by telling the truth to the ex-wife and her son. He thought about being clean and away from anything dangerous. Jessica is a young girl now. She was twenty years old and Jessica should be freer now, but her mother was still too in control of this girl's life as much as she could. Jessica is really stuck.
"So, can we go to lunch after this?" Jessica asked suddenly, breaking Robert's daydream.
"Are you hungry?"
"If you want," Robert smiled at Jessica. "I'm sure I can take you somewhere that can even beat the fancy food of your uncle John."
"Wow, what is this. This sounds like a competition! Then I hope you really get a much better restaurant than John." exclaimed the girl and Robert felt his lips slightly raised, smiling as he heard her.
"John wouldn't be happy to hear someone take you to a place where the food is better" Robert said later.
"Let her get her competitors," Jessica replied casually.
Drrrt! Drrrt!
Jessica merassksn vibes on her bag. He checked the bag on his shoulder and pulled out his phone which read. Jessica looked at the screen of her hand-held phone and quietly began replying to messages quickly on the iPhone.
Robert took a quick glance and could see the name on the screen.
"Who's Daniel?" Robert suddenly asked his daughter.
"A boy I met on campus. She was also a student," Jessica replied to her father, her voice filled with indifference. Robert shook his head, trying his best not to seem too involved with any of the affairs of the girl.
"Aren't you supposed to concentrate on the course and the degree you're pursuing? You've just managed to live at least about sixty percent of what's called success." Robert commented, just trying to remind Jessica.
The advice made Jessica who heard it suddenly roll her eyes lazy. "Yes, I know dad. She's not my boyfriend either."
"Yes, I just meant to remind you, I don't want to"
"Come dad! Why is it that you are like mom now? Do you know how hard maths lessons are?" Jessica asked him. "It was almost impossible for me to learn that difficult counting every day. I feel almost crazy. I even felt amazed at myself when I was able to get an A on the exam. Ah.. By the way I am the best student who is at A level right now."
"Do you need a private teacher?" Robert tried to ask the girl when they finally managed to enter the gallery building after a long wait.
Jessica shook her head, responding to the father. "No, I can handle it. I'll get good grades before January" he said.
It made Robert laugh because he remembered Jessica also said the same thing to him over the phone last year. Although Jessica did manage to get good grades, but still if Robert thought about it, feeling worried about her little girl is common for parents.
Of course, because he realized that his son's education was something that worried him more than he had thought.
