"Robert!"
Robert turned his head quickly as soon as he heard the voice of the woman he was waiting for. "Katherine Bailey."
"How can you let this happen to Jessica?" Katherine Bailey snapped at Robert as soon as she came and saw Robert standing at the end of the hospital hallway. A tall, black-haired man walked beside him.
"I didn't expect this to happen, Kate," Robert told his ex-wife.
Robert had lied to his ex-wife about the cause of Jessica's accident. Yeah, between Robert and Jessica, they've had a long discussion about what kind of lies they're going to make up for Katherine Bailey.
Meanwhile, upon hearing bad news from Robert, Kate immediately grumbled at length and decided to immediately look for a flight that headed to Thailand.
And frankly Robert still feels bad about lying to his ex-wife about what really happened. Jessica did not intend to say anything more about the matter.
It was Jessica who told Robert from the beginning that it would be better for both of them if Robert lied, considering Katherine Bailey would definitely never allow them to see each other again if all the truth was told.
"You brought her to Thailand secretly, without my permission," Kate sighed, carrying the strap of her bag further up her shoulder. "And then someone unknown burned your house down, and so my daughter had to be hospitalized with burns on her leg."
"He's safe now" replied Robert. Then he shook his head. "She's a twenty-year-old woman, Kate. He can make his own decisions without your permission. I'm his dad too, so-"
"Kate's still his mother" cut the tall man next to Kate. He is seen lowering the tie to his suit and putting his hand on Kate's shoulder.
The woman sighed then straightened the red dress she was wearing while rubbing her rough face with her hands.
"Let it go, John," Kate replied. "Robert was always this stubborn. He was like this before."
"Do you know how bad I feel about seeing Jessica?" Robert asked the woman. "I just found out that there was a stranger who wanted to hurt our son. I know I was wrong. I knew I should have been there for him. I'm sorry, but I never wanted this to happen either..."
"Well, all right," Kate said with a brief nod. He knew it wasn't Robert's fault. He just needs someone to blame for his daughter's injuries. Kate sighed slowly. "Once Jessica's condition is better, she'll stay in Singapore with me. He won't stay with you, Robert."
"Katherine but-"
"You who?" robert asked coldly. "Jessica is my daughter. He is old enough to talk about himself. He has the right to decide what he wants."
"I'm John" the man replied. "And I know"
"Stop! Don't talk," cut Robert. "Don't say anything about my daughter. You have no right to interfere. You're just someone who's been seeing his mother recently. Your limit is only up to his mother and-"
"Take care of your tongue" Kate snapped at Robert before his ex-husband could say anything more. "You're the one you call disenfranchised. She's my daughter and I've been taking care of her since she was a child. I know what you are, Robert. Now, I'm here for my daughter, not to argue."
Kate raised her hand between the two men. He nodded his head as he did so. "So do you think we can be mature about this?"
Robert sighed slowly, easing whatever was warming his heart.
"He's still sleeping" Robert told the mother. "He's been asleep since. But he'll probably wake up when you get in."
"OK," said Kate, holding John's hand and pulling the tall man inside. "We'll go inside and look at the situation."
"Yes, do it" said Robert quietly. He watched as the ex-wife walked into the room, Kate's hands covering her mouth as she looked at her daughter's condition.
Robert took a slow breath. He tried his best to remain calm as Katherine approached the girl's bed.
Robert rubbed his face roughly then turned around, starting to walk away down the hallway. And that was when he saw a shocking sight.
Both of his brows furrowed in confusion as he looked at the young man who was at the end of the hall. The young man continued walking towards her, his steps long and directed straight at Robert.
"What are you doing here?"
