Chapter 57's

Luffy and the crew sailed on the Grand Line for about a day since they left Whiskey Peak. They sail in calm waters for most of the journey, but they have not traveled as far as they want. And it happens because the wind often does not blow for a while, thus delaying their passage.

Luffy was currently sitting on his throne sipping on a glass of whiskey while watching everyone move around the ship. Sanji, Usopp, and Yosaku were fishing from the side of the ship, Zoro was sleeping right next to them, Nami and Vivi were standing on the top deck, in front of Luffy watching the other one fishing, and the other was, Johnny stands in a watchtower looking for any island or ship heading their way,

Nojiko was behind Luffy practicing using his three-piece stick, and Vivi Karoo's duck standing to Luffy's right looked out toward the ocean. Luffy never thought he would admit this, but he really liked the duck, he was fun to have.

While Luffy noticed everyone doing their job, the wind suddenly stopped again causing his sail to fall and their ship to stop. Luffy sighed as he felt the ship stop.

'When we get to Water 7, I really need to get a boat with paddles or propellers under the ship because this is so ridiculous,' thought Luffy before turning his attention to Nami and Vivi who were walking towards him.

"Luffy," said Nami drawing his attention to Nami, "Wind stops again," she said causing Luffy to look at her with a funny look.

"There's nothing I can do about this wind" Luffy said before he took a sip of his drink.

"But if we continue sailing at this speed, when we reach Alabasta everything will be too late" Vivi said with a frown. Luffy got up from his throne and placed his hand on Vivi's shoulder causing her to stare at Luffy.

"You're too worried, everything will be fine" Luffy said with a warm smile on his face before he turned towards Nami. "Why don't you help him get his mind off by teaching him a little haki" Luffy told Nami.

Vivi hears that and stares confusedly wondering what is Haki. When Vivi looked towards Nami, she saw an evil expression on Nami's face that made her sweat a little. Before she can react, she is pulled by Nami who takes her to the ladies room. Luffy only smiled when he saw Nami pull Vivi, then Luffy sat back on his throne. As he sat on his throne, Luffy gave a mental order to turn around so he could see what Nojiko was doing. As her throne turned, she saw Nojiko sweating and gasping for breath while performing various movements at an impressive speed.

"He trains really hard" Luffy thought to himself when he saw him attacking an invisible opponent with his cane.

"What causes this intensity?" Luffy asked caught his attention. As soon as Nojiko heard Luffy's voice, she stopped what she was doing and took a few seconds to catch her breath before replying.

"What are you talking about?" Nojiko asked while panting. Luffy smiled before taking out a second glass and pouring whiskey before giving it to her.

"Why are you suddenly training so hard?" Luffy asked while looking at Nojiko who swallowed the whiskey in one gulp.

"I've always been like this" he said before he returned the glass to Luffy who took it and filled it and gave it to Nojiko again.

"No, you're not like this" Luffy said as he got up from his throne and walked back and looked out to sea before he continued speaking. "Since we left Whiskey Peak, you've been training yourself endlessly, why?" Luffy asked as he continued to look at the ocean.

Nojiko tightened the grip on her three-piece stick before she replied.

"Because I could easily die on Whiskey Peak if it wasn't for you, Nami, Zoro, Johnny, and Yosaku," he said it caused Luffy to understand what was going on but he did not say anything, he let Nojiko continue .

"And the people who are in Whiskey peak are nothing but enemies of the lower class compared to the enemies we will face in the future, I let my guard down easily against a group of weak people and had to be saved by my little sister .. again," Nojiko said sadly.

Luffy then turned around and placed his hand on his shoulder before he spoke.

"Hey, you're not alone in this. You're not the only one who let your vigilance drop there, and Nami didn't do anything significant," Luffy said causing Nojiko to stare at him with tears in her eyes.

"He didn't fight anyone, all he did was scavenge for valuables to steal .. well they didn't really have any valuables to steal, but that wasn't the point ... The point is you make mistakes in judgment and you learn from them. There is no need to blame yourself too much for what happened at Whiskey peak.This is a new life for you, I have been a pirate my whole life, Nami became a thief since she was a child, and Zoro and the two of them had been bounty hunters for a long time. We've been in this life for a long time and we developed the skills necessary to survive over time and you can definitely do it" Luffy said, trying to relax her a little.

Nojiko then wiped her tears from her eyes before she smiled and replied to Luffy.

"Thank you, Luff!" he said with a smile causing Luffy to smile as well.

"Good, now show me your ability," said Luffy before he took off his captain's coat and threw it on his throne. Nojiko looked at him in confusion for a moment before she spoke.

"What do you mean?" he asked when he saw Luffy move a few meters away from him.

"You don't want to die when you face a stronger enemy, and you don't want to be protected by your sister anymore, instead, you want to protect her. So, you've been training yourself hard since we left Whiskey Peak and now I want to see the results of all your training" Luffy said as he took a defensive stance.

Nojiko's eyes widened at what Luffy had just said. Luffy has managed to advise her on her feelings and now she wants to fight him.

"B-but, there's no way I can beat you," Nojiko said in a nervous voice. Luffy chuckled slightly before replying.

"I never told you to beat me, I said show me the results of your training," he said before gesturing for Nojiko to come to him.

"Alright then,” he said as he took a few seconds to calm his nerves before he took a few steps towards Luffy and started twisting his three-piece staff.

"Tsk Tsk, with such an attack Nami might still need to protect you," Luffy said as he shook his head which caused Nojiko to growl as she pulled the part of her stick away from Luffy.

He then began twisting all three parts of his staff once more before he launched forward, leading to Luffy's chest. Luffy saw the attack coming and simply raised his right hand and stopped it with his palm.

"Yes, you will definitely die against a stronger enemy," Luffy said further irritating Nojiko.

"Shut up!" Nojiko shouted as she pulled her wand back and swung it at Luffy's head which Luffy easily avoided.

"With an attack like this it makes me think you're going to die" Luffy said as he continued to dodge and block his attack. "Do you want to die, Nojiko?" Luffy asked a little louder.

"No," he said as he continued to attack.

"I can't hear it, do you want to die?" Luffy asked again causing him to growl.

"NO!" Nojiko shouted as her attack grew faster and stronger causing Luffy to smile.

"Then attack me!" Luffy's shout caused an expression of determination and anger to appear on Nojiko's face, before gathering all his will onto his staff and swinging it with all his might to the right side of Luffy's body.

Luffy saw her coming and raised his hand to block her. The moment the stick hit Luffy's arm, his eyes widened when he suddenly felt pain in the area where he was hit.

He quickly looked at the stick and saw the black color begin to fade from the silver stick. Upon seeing that, Luffy smiled and looked towards Nojiko.

"Congratulations," said Luffy puzzling him. "You have opened your true armament" he said before walking to his throne and putting his coat back on. Nojiko stared at Luffy as he put on his coat back with his eyes widened for a few seconds before he managed to issue a question while stuttering.

"W-what?" Nojiko asked in a confused voice. Luffy sat back on his throne and chuckled at him before he spoke.

"As I just said," he said as he took out his glass and began to pour himself a drink. "Your last attack had Armament haki in it, that's why I felt pain when it hit me" Luffy said before he sipped his drink.

Nojiko blinked a few times trying to process what Luffy had just said before she spoke.

"But what did I do to make it appear?" Nojiko asked as she sat on the floor in front of Luffy, wanting to hear what he was going to say.

"That is will powermu (willingness)," he replied causing Nojiko to look at him confused but not saying anything, she waited for him to continue. "If you recall from my explanation of what Haki is, I explained that in armament haki, will power or spirit someone allows them to make armor around them.

Just now, even though you were not in any real danger, your will to live and your will to prove yourself stronger than your sister was strong enough that you unconsciously coated the bottom of your staff with armament haki, "luffy said before gulping down his drink again and looking towards Nojiko to see if she understood everything he said.

"So it's just my will?" Nojiko asked in a voice of disbelief.

"Yes, I know it sounds hard to believe that one's will will will has that kind of power, but it's true" Luffy said as he looked at her with a smile. "You were the first on the crew to wake her up, congratulations," said Luffy once again causing Nojiko to blush a little at the praise she got from her captain.

"So umm, what should I do now?" Nojiko asked trying to change the subject.

"Well, you need to learn how to summon that power every time you want, to the point where using it is like second nature," luffy said in a serious voice that caused Nojiko to look at him with a determined expression on her face.

"To do that, you need to find a way to recapture the feelings you have before you attack me and find a way to make it work for you," Luffy said causing him to nod his head at her.

"I'll start right away" he said as he began to wake up to continue his training. As he was about to turn around and return to his training, Luffy spoke causing him to stop.

"Before you do that," said Luffy, drawing Nojiko's attention back to him. Luffy then grabbed into his coat and took out an eye patch and threw it at him before he spoke again.

"All the exercises you did with your cane before I reprimanded you, I want you to do all that again, this time with your eyes closed," Luffy said causing Nojiko's eyes to widen.

"But why?" Nojiko asked not really understanding, why he should do something like that. His control over his staff was already perfect and not seeing how with a blind eye would help him.

"Two real reasons, first, if you can control your weapon with the same efficiency and skill with your eyes closed compared to when your vision was still there, that's when you can really say that you've mastered your weapon. And lastly, it is quite normal for your enemies to try and attack one of your five senses, often times they are trying to attack your ability to see. And it's an exercise if you're going to be in that position, " said Luffy before he took another sip of his drink.

"I see," said Nojiko finding the logic in Luffy's words, then she walked back to her training ground and put her blindfold around her eyes and started practicing with her cane again. In the first experiment Nojiko turned her stick around her body resulting in her hitting her own legs, head, and chest, thus making Luffy laugh, then Luffy turned his throne around to see what the rest of his crew were up to.
