CHAPTER 56 - Dervilia
Amidst the silence of the night, under the lighting that lit the streets, among the pine forest's populace, Ryan walked slowly with feeble footsteps towards Dervilia. With a face that radiated sadness and deep wounds, he continued to step up.
Arka followed every step behind Rayn while keeping her distance. He followed Ryan even though Ryan had banned him and asked him to let himself go alone. Arka keeps her vows and promises to the Anderson family to serve and protect Ryan.
Rayn arrived at a small multi-storey Villa building like a tree house with a minimalist but luxurious design. There are several guards who have been standing in front and above the building on the orders of Arka. Seeing the arrival of Rayn and Arka, they take a step back as Ryan starts to approach and climb the stairs.
Rayn entered the main room in the building and then turned on the lighting, a room filled with paintings on a wooden easel covered in white cloth. Rayn walked towards the painting at the end of the room, slowly opening the cloth that covered the painting.
A painting that looks several years old but still well maintained. Painting of a woman smiling happily sitting on the green grass by staring at a baby boy who was in her lap. Slowly Rayn began to feel the painting on the woman's face. He looked sharply at the initials on the painting that says ‘Dervilia’. He closed his eyes withstanding the wound in his face followed by tears that fell down his cheeks.
The woman is Rayn's mother and the sweet little baby on her lap is Rayn herself. The painting he was looking at was his mother's last work before she died. His mother made a painting that looks alive only based on the image of his feelings without any direct object.
Rayn sits on the floor right next to her mother's painting by embracing her legs. He increasingly tightly embraced his docked legs by returning to shed his tears without a sound. His heart was like it was being sliced. The deepest memories, wounds and regrets that he had always borne alone all this time, now re-stirred and broke in his head.
Dervilia was the pen name Rayn's mother used for every work of her painting that had never been shown to the world. Dervilia is taken from the Irish language which has the meaning - The True Desire.
The real desire of the mother who wants to become a famous painter. However, that wish only ended up being a dream he had to dream of ever since he became part of Anderson's extended family.
When he returned from Canada, Rayn built the small Villa in the middle of the forest which is located not up to 1km from the main Villa which is currently inhabited by Rayn and Lucia. A small villa with a tree house design was built Rayn as a place to remember all the memories with his mother. In fact he gave the name of the building the same as the pen name of the mother ‘Dervilia’.
Dervilia became the place where Rayn kept all the relics of her mother's paintings. Dervilia is also where Rayn creates paintings that she does not want to show to the world. All the paintings that only depict his wounds, grief, pain, loneliness and despair.
At the same time, in a different place, Mickey was still in a car parked in front of the Dervilia driveway. She was talking about Ryan before leaving him.
"Because I cherish our childhood, appreciate how we grew up together and how my mother wholeheartedly raised us together."
The remarks brought Mickey back to his childhood memories, the moment of how Ryan's mother sincerely cared for and loved him.
“Mickey come here. Look at me making knitted scarves for you and Ryan. For Mickey in red and for Ryan in blue. You want me to tell you a secret? Mom actually made it special for your birthday gift later. But because Rayn saw it was handmade by mother, she so whined to ask for it too.. hahaha.
Given the moment with Ryan's mother, Mickey could not hold back his tears anymore. He cried sobbing by squeezing his chest withstanding the pain of every memory that continued to torment him, he cried alone in the car.
Mickey and Rayn, they're all grown up now. But, the shadows of the past that they should be able to keep as beautiful childhood memories, it just becomes a torturous and haunting wound on the journey of their lives.
A mystery about Rayn's mother's accident and death adds to the suffering of both. Memories are like knives that sculpt the heart, knives that continue to scratch endlessly until they have difficulty distinguishing what a test of life is or a punishment.
That answer that they could only find from the fact that Rayn had deliberately kept in her memory room. The memory room is still tightly closed without a key to open it.

“Do I have to destroy that memory space by making it erased all or I have to go back to fighting to find the key to open it without regret. I don't know why I feel so scared. I'm so afraid of something I don't know what I'm afraid of.”
“Do I have to force him to recall only to my ego or to bury the mystery of the past while still making him suffer for his phobia. Whatever it is, I'll still end up being the worst person here. Whatever it is, there is no path that can make me a worthy person to live happily
Mickey and Ryan kept that mind tight by staying alive as time went on.

“Mickey... Promise to always take care of Rayn and be the big brother who always protects her. If he does something wrong, you must strictly punish him. Don't be afraid, as long as it's true, mom will be on your side by then.”
“And Rayn. If he starts getting lost or finding a dead end, you need to be stronger to remind him and bring him back. Don't be afraid, you can do it, because at that time I was always with you.”
“You know, mom is very, very, very loving to you more than anything. Come here heroes mother, mother will embrace you to transfer strength, love, affection so that you can always be happy with mother's blessing.”
The words were not merely a request for promise and a message from the mother, but a directive for both, that no human being could live alone. There are times when you will be hurt, slumped, lost or perhaps in despair. And if those moments happen, then it is your loved one who will be the first to extend his hand and always be on your side.
As is the case with the name 'Dervilia' which Rayn's mother used as her pen name. You may not be able to find your own greatest desire. You're going to need someone else who can convince you if it's your right wish. It's not just a birth or the end because you're giving up and desperate.
