CHAPTER 16 - Forgive Me Mother
Lucia has arrived at her home. He rushes to open the fence of his house that is not locked. “Grandmother....” call Lucia while continuing to knock on the door.
Hearing the grandchild's voice, Lucia's grandmother immediately went to open the door. Seeing the arrival of his granddaughter he hugged and cried hysterically.
“My grandson, you finally came home son, what should we do now” he said by continuing to cry and stroking Lucia's back in his arms.
“Grandma, sorry Lucia just found out and just got to go home” said Lucia began to tear up hearing the words of her grandmother. Lucia hugged her grandmother tightly.
“No boy, wrong grandma can't give a good life to you guys.”
“Grandma, what happened? where's mommy? where's Lukas?” ask Lucia.
“Your mother is in her room with Lukas. Quickly meet your mother, pity your mother nak” replied the grandmother holding Lusia's hand to drive her to the room.
Seen the mother was sitting pensively among a pile of cardboard boxes that have been neatly arranged. Luke's shoulders are asleep. Either what he was thinking or deliberately ignored the arrival of Lucia. Lucia immediately approached and sat hugging her mother from behind.
“Mother.. forgive Lucy being late to come bu”, said Lucia with her tears cleared.
Feeling the embrace of her daughter, Mother Lucia immediately wiped her tears with both hands. He woke up slowly laying Luke on the bed.
“We talked outside nak” said the mother did not want to wake Lukas.
Lucy's mother exited the room first towards the living room. Seeing her mother's face bruised from crying, Lucia grew tearful and looked at the mother's back who walked away from her. Lucia wiped her tears and walked out of the room following her mother. His mother sat in the guest chair next to her grandmother who had been sitting there.
“How can you come here these nights Lucia?” ask the mother.
“Aunt Nia told me and I couldn't contact mom” said Lucia sitting next to her mother.
“Pardon mom nak” said he looked down and felt guilty because at that time he deliberately turned off his phone.
Lucia asked her mother for an explanation of what happened by holding her hands together. The reason why those people took away her grandmother's house which was also the only home they had today.
"They didn't rob him son, but Mother made this grandmother's house a guarantee for your father's debt.” Lucy's mother said it with a disjointed word as it was tight to hold back the cries.
"Say clearly which father do you mean? What is that guy?” lusia asked in a high tone, she did not believe what her mother had just said.
Lucia became very angry to hear her stepfather again harassing her family. Even to the point of having to make them lose their grandmother's house.
“Lussia, be polite ! After all he is still your father” said the mother in tears.
“Dad… ? can he still be called a father after leaving his son and wife for many years. He never came home or gave a living. He just left by leaving behind a lot of debt. How is such a person still worthy of being called father ?” lusia.
“Lussia...!!!” Shouted the mother not wanting Lucia to continue insulting her stepfather.
“Is it because her status is legally still the official husband of the mother, therefore the mother asked me to respect her?" ask Lucia.
"Alvenia, let Lucy rest first" the grandmother told Ms. Lucia.
“Mother please, it's enough mom” cries Lucia broke to hear her mother defend her stepfather who only continues to bring trouble for her family.
“Mom will think of the solution You do not need to do anything nak” said his mother.
“Mother...!!!” shout Lusia.
“Then you want me to let mom, grandma and Luke be homeless because they have no place to live? I beg you to file for divorce." Lucia's order because it can no longer bear to let her mother suffer because of having to waste to pay off her father's debts.
"I'm sorry mom couldn't do it, son.”
“Then what will you do? What else will you give her? Are we not important in my life? why can't mom do it? why mother... why ?” ask Lucia in a high tone.
“Lussia, forgive mom.” His mother could only apologize without giving any explanation.
"Didn't you feel like this was too much? why would you do this to all of us just for her sake. Why mom, what for love? can you still think of love?. He already does not take care of our family and never cares even...“ Lucia's frustration had already begun to peak. Not until he finished his speech but had to get a slap from the mother who also surprised his grandmother.
“Lussia.. !” the mother shouted with a slap to her daughter.
“Alvenia… !! “ shouted the grandmother rising from the seat watching her daughter slap her grandson. He approached Lucia and touched Lusia flat. Lucia simply closed her eyes with tears.
“What mother is afraid it will hurt Luke ?” lusia asked bowed in a weakened tone of voice.
“Lussia is here, your mother is not in good condition right now. Your mother did not accidentally do nak” said the grandmother helped Lusia wake up from her seat and intend to bring Lucia to her room.
Shouted Lucia in her mind who she wanted to reveal to her mother, but she could not and did not have the heart. Lucia always relented and tried to control herself. However, he did not want to hurt his mother's feelings any deeper.
“I'm also mom's daughter, don't you think about my feelings? I was tired, mom, but I kept fighting to be able to pay off the man's debts so that mom could also live more calmly without thinking about the debt” continued lusia in her heart.
Lucia could only sigh deeply, her mind was as if it was being sliced to hold back her sobbing. Compared to the pain from the slap she received from her mother, it was more painful to look at her mother who was just downcast crying feeling guilty.
Lucia followed the grandmother who took her to the room leaving her mother sitting alone in the guest room.
“Have a rest, son, you must be tired. Tomorrow we can talk about it again” said the grandmother and then closed the door to Lucia's room.
Her mother's cries broke and became hysterical in the living room. Hearing that, Lucia's tears began to pour out. She held her chest that felt very tight, one hand clenched her mouth holding back her peaking crying voice so that it would not be heard by her mother and grandmother. He leaned his body against the door and slowly sat down.
Lucia still does not believe in her mother who continues to maintain her marriage, choosing to endure all the suffering experienced since the abandonment of her stepfather. Even his mother to guarantee his grandmother's house without any discussion.
Lucia who was lying in her bed heard the sound of her bedroom door being opened. He who was still not asleep immediately turned around and closed his eyes. His mother came in and sat in her bed staring at his daughter's back. He desperately wanted to hug his daughter, but he held back and pulled back his hand.
“I'm sorry mommy son, I just don't want to hurt you. Let the mother endure all this suffering. I deliberately did not answer your call because I knew you would be worried, you would immediately do something by continuing to sacrifice” said his mother in a soft tone.
Lucia who heard it could only shed tears. She was eager to hug her mother at this time, but she did not know what to say to her mother.
“Mom has a reason why you can't divorce your father. It was the mother's decision without anyone's coercion not to leave her. Later you will understand why mom still wants to maintain this marriage” continued the mother with tears.
Lucia still did not understand, but now was not the time to discuss it. Right now all he had to think about was how he could redeem his grandmother's house. The house was the only place they had. Lucia who could not bear to wake up from her sleep and hugged her mother in a hysterical cry.
“Im sorry Lucy mom. Forgive Lucia for hurting my mother earlier” said Lucia hugging her mother.
“No son, wrong mother. Forgive me for not being a good mother to you yet and Lukas” replies the mother hugged her daughter.
“Mother, Lusia will find a way to redeem this house” said Lucia wiped her mother's tears with both hands.
“Lussia will ask for waivers to pay the interest first and will pay it off soon” continued Lucia.
“No son, I don't want to bother you anymore, you've been working hard all this time for Mom, Grandma and Luke. Even you can't tell it to yourself. I want you to also be able to go enjoy your youth with your friends shopping and buy the things you want” said the mother hugged back Lucia.
"At this time, how can mother still worry about me” said Lucia in her heart increasingly tightly hugged her mother.
The next day Lucia met the loan shark to negotiate. They have a deal and make a new contract. Lucia spends all the savings she has saved so far to pay interest for the next 6 months. Within 6 months he had to pay off his father's debt or could put it off by paying interest again with a very fantastic amount.
Of course, the interest he paid did not reduce his father's debt and was out of interest in the debt itself. If it comes to the time when he can not pay interest or pay it off then the property of the house becomes the property of the loan shark.
Today is a very long day for Lucia. He also helped his mother return the items she had packed. Lucia plans to return to the city on the last bus. But her mother and grandmother forbade her from returning to the night alone.
Finally he decided to return the next morning to take the first bus. He had already obtained permission from the florist where he worked if he would be late to open the store. He also told Reisa not to come to pick him up.
As the night wore on, he saw that his mother had fallen asleep without a blanket. Lucia picked up her blanket and covered the mother.
Lucia walked out of the house to calm herself, she sat alone on the bench outside her house. Thinking back on everything that happened made him no longer able to withstand the pain he was feeling. All the grievances that he endured alone, in his heart was very stifling and torturing his stone. His eyes began to glaze over, slowly his tears fell down his cheeks.
Lucia lowered her head and leaned her forehead on both of her knees which she folded. He started crying sobbing that he didn't even realize someone had opened the fence and entered.
“Are you okay?” ask a man who is standing in front of him.
