Although Renna wasn't as good as Milly, she was just a child, and it attracted someone's heartstrings.
Mikaela and Donald's conversation also makes Javier understand the current state of the family.
He didn't think too much about it.
For him, it is worth it if 30 dollars can get a bright smile of a child in return. Perhaps, to some extent, he also recalled Milly in this way. Renna was happy, but she said, although her eyes were fixed on the Barbie doll in Javier's hands, "I don't want it."
It seemed like Renna still had some manners because she knew of rejecting gifts from others and not wanting other people's items.
The sensitivity of a child in this aspect is very much related to his family. If their parents make sense, the child will naturally make sense.
Javier pats Renna on the head. “I know a little girl who's three years older than you, but she's as tall and sweet as you. She has never eaten a cake in her lifetime, and her biggest desire is to eat a cake.”
Renna surprised. “Renna also likes cakes, and I always eat them. If the girl wants, can I give her a cake?”
Javier smiles. “Renna has cake because Renna has papa and mama who love you. The girl has no father or mother. He only has a 10-year-old brother, and his brother goes to the street every day to feed him.”
"Did the girl finally get the cake?"
Javier smiled at Renna's question and replied, “Yes. He said it was very good.”
Renna let out a “oh” sound and said quickly, “My birthday is coming soon. Ask the girl to come over for some cake, okay, sir? And her brother too. I want to share my cake and happiness with them.”
Javier smiled and said nothing. He pushed the Barbie doll into Renna's hands. "Happy birthday."
Dropping the doll, Javier gets up to leave. However, a few steps later, the sound of high heels ringing on the floor hurriedly rang out behind him.
Mikaela. “Thank you for your kindness, but we can't accept this Barbie doll, we.”.
Javier cut it off with a smile. "Is an adult's pride or a child's smile more important?"
“Uh...” Mikaela felt a little awkward, confused by Javier's question.
Javier kept saying, "Treat it like I remember another child like this, and you and Renna help me fulfill that wish."
Nodding at Mikaela with a smile, Javier turned to leave.
The woman's voice sounded again from behind her a few steps later.
"How's the girl doing now?"
Javier's steps wavered as he replied with pain in his heart, "He's gone."
Mikaela's heart fell upon hearing her answer. He could have guessed that Javier most likely met the siblings he mentioned.
The girl was happy to hug the doll but said to Mikaela on the way home, “Bu, I won't ask for anything else in the future, and I won't throw a tantrum. The master said that the girl did not even get the cake, and she did not go berserk.
"I want to be like that girl and be a good girl." Mikaela felt a warmth gush into her and inevitably turned to look in the direction Javier had left behind.
He thought, maybe this is why Javier told Renna about the girl…
Javier returns to the hotel and goes to bed after taking a shower without thinking about anything.
He treats Mikaela and Renna as just two passers-by in his life whom he will never see again. The next morning, Javier and Herschel went to the Hospital of Sacred Virtue after they had breakfast.
When looking at the various shops across the street from the hospital with stickers pasted on them, it was clear how bad the current state of the hospital was.
After all, the shops opposite the hospital are usually busy, selling mother and baby supplies, accommodation, babysitting services, and even memorial services. It would be crowded, a small business environment formed around the hospital, and it would only be more prosperous if the hospital had more patients.
However, currently, all stores have eviction notices. That shows how badly the Hospital of Sacred Virtue has plummeted.
The automatic boom barrier in front of the hospital entrance was broken with rust around it, and cars came and went as they pleased. There are many people who run their businesses in the neighborhood but all of them park their cars in the hospital parking lot because it is spacious and free.
After Javier entered the hospital by car, he did not let Herschel go with him but rather got out of the car and went to the hospital alone.
Finally finding a nurse in the empty hospital lobby, Javier asks about the hospital director's office. The nurse gives him a cold attitude, pointing to the elevator as he scrolls his phone to tell Javier to take the elevator.
"What floor?" Javier asked, though,
“The sign for the floor is up there. Can't you see it for yourself?”
It was very rude and clear that this nurse, who was not even wearing her headgear, was not in a good mood. That said, Javier is not petty with him and immediately entered the elevator. He realized that the office was on the 18th floor after seeing the signboard. Many places do not have an 18th floor because the number is considered unfavorable. Some hospitals will even place their morgues on the 18th floor as if to fit the theme, but the man who runs this hospital seems to be quite attractive.
Is he trying to fight bad luck and take control?
Javier tried to push the floor button, but there was no response. He then realized that the button was disconnected.
The 18th floor and the button are disconnected. The director of the hospital really! There was no reason the hospital director could take the stairs, and Javier couldn't, so he started climbing the stairs after making sure no elevator was running.
To be honest, 18 stairs is really a workout. That's why no one fixes the automatic boom barrier at the hospital entrance because thieves will be bullied when they come. There was no elevator working, and the thief would get tired of stealing computers and taking them to so many floors. Too much work so that one would be too lazy to steal. When Javier finally reached the 18th floor, he wiped away the sweat that had soaked his forehead.
Thankfully, he was not accompanied by the woman last night, or his legs would have given up after he had climbed 18 levels today. After catching his breath, Javier followed the signboard to the hospital director's office. As soon as he reached the door, he heard a conversation inside.
“Master, I'm sorry. I really can't keep doing it. My conscience forbids me to continue like this.”
From what was said, it seemed like the person had committed a criminal mistake that agitated him, but the voice sounded familiar to Javier as if he had heard it somewhere.
Through the glass on the office door further away, he took a quick look inside, wanting to see who the familiar voice belonged to.
