Chapter 66. Fighting On The River

At night when Sam and his team were sleeping well. The remaining team had difficulty. Many of them did not even have food in two days and they did not have a proper shelter to rest in the cold night.

But not all teams have this kind of difficulty, one team is much better than the other and that is team 3.

Hawk and Kelly are on this team. Because of Hawk's status and prestige, he was immediately appointed leader. He did justice for the position given to him by the other members.

In fact, they did not have fire and warmth, nor did they have shelter and flesh. They still have ten members left and they can find enough wild fruits and vegetables due to Hawk's observations and familiarity in the forest.

He is not as skilled as Sam, but at least his teammates have enough food and water and they only get a few points.

"How are you feeling?" Hawk asked Kelly as he gave her fruit to eat.

"I'm fine." Kelly had a beautiful smile on her face as she replied. Even though she looked haggard and a little pale, she was still as beautiful as ever. All the members were men on his team except him. If it wasn't for Hawk being her friend and supporting her, she knew how the situation was, just based on the looks people gave her.

"What do you think he's doing?" ask Hawk.

"I don't know exactly, but I think he's definitely in a better situation than we are." Although the two did not name the person, they knew who they were talking about.

Kelly looked up at the sky while thinking of a handsome face that was usually icy cold with a smile, when she was satisfied with the dress, she made it for her. He smiled at the thought of the arrogant grin he had when he received the fake rank 3 tailor craftsman badge.

Seeing the beautiful woman smiling like a silly little girl, Hawk shook his head and said. "I hope we can meet him. Let's see if what you say is true. I really want to see how many points he gets."

Then a man came and asked. "Hawk, what's the plan for tomorrow? Are we going to find another team or are we going to look for the reels?"

"I don't know. I think we need to take risks for tomorrow. All this time we avoided all the dangers of the beast. I think if we don't go and look for them, we won't have a chance to get anything substantial. Tomorrow our target is to get some rolls, whether it's a point roll. Cultivation scrolls, attack scrolls. Sam and his friends are up and getting ready to move. They are currently eating bear meat.

It's only the third day and our journey is long. Now that we know that we need to target animals with a higher level of danger to get a reward, we'll get fresh food." Said Sam while biting the big roast meat in his hand.

The remaining three nodded and continued eating meat.

After eating, they make preparations. They put the remaining meat and bamboo containers along with the defensive scrolls into the bags. Jack was holding a bamboo sword that he made himself yesterday and Eve was holding a dagger.

Sam holds an axe and Shor is left with a bamboo spear. Sam carried the bag and the four of them started to move. They extinguish the fire and Eve holds a container with live dry wood, which has a small splash on it.

“Today let's go near the river and explore. From every source of water, there is a possibility that we can find some paths to the nest of other animals. If we're lucky, we can get another prey today.

They moved towards the river and when they got there, the banks were empty and there were no other creatures. Sam and Jack begin to search the trail, while the remaining two are on guard. When they did not find any traces of some large animals, they began to move along the banks of the river in the same direction as the stream.

On the way Sam saw many trails, but none of them were large animals and the animals they encountered were not too big either. There are rabbits, wild cats, raccoons and some other animals like that. Since, they already had food for now, they had no interest in hunting him down

After some time, Sam and the group arrived at a place that was a bit strange and different. No trace of animals at all. The clumps on the river bank were too lush and high compared to other areas near the river.

"Let's stop here for a second. Rest a little far from the edge." As the group sat some distance away from the edge, Sam began to look around. He saw no patches among the grass near the edges and vegetation was too dense as if there were no animals around.

When he returned to the group, Jack saw Sam's frown and asked. "Is something wrong?"

"Don't you think the grass is a bit too thick and tall when compared to other areas we've visited before?" When Sam asks this question, Jack is a bit confused because of his strange question, but he still answers.

"Now after you mention it. There is a difference. But does it make any difference?"

“This situation occurs when there are no animals around and it occurs mostly in two cases. First, if the vegetation has a problem here that I don't think is the case and second, they are afraid of something here. " Sam explained.

"But there are traces of any creature here. There were no residences and this region seemed to be uninhabited. What do you think they're afraid of?" Jack asked.

"How can you say that there is no place to live here?" Sam said and looked at the flow of water.

Jack understood something and asked. "What's on your mind?"

"If my guess is correct, we can get something here. We need to get ready." Eve and Shor just listened from the side without saying anything. They don't actually see anything different here and they don't see anything wrong.

"Gather the leaves and grass dry as much as possible. Even small branches can. The condition, must quickly burn, once ignited the fire must be burned. Don't bring the big one."

After that for a whole hour, they just collected all kinds of dried leaves, grass, twigs, etc.

Sam said while pointing to a tree, where Jack should stay after bringing the animals. Then he turned to Eve and said.

"Help me arrange these twigs and grass around the plots I make." The two began to arrange the grass and dry twigs around the plot. They arrange it evenly so that it is half a foot tall when everything is done.

Jack and Shor have come up with some wild rabbits. Sam opened the bag and took out all the remaining bear meat inside.

He gathered with his teammates and said. "If my guess is correct, we're up against a very dangerous animal and it's even more dangerous than the bear we put out. We have to be careful.

Sam made a small fire and lit a torch. He gave it to Eve and said. “When I say, you should light a fire on the dead leaf bed that we just made. Shor, you are responsible for turning it on from the other side.

Jack, you and I are responsible for the attack. If we can't get it done as quickly as possible, we may be in danger.

Eve and Shor, you two need to turn on the bed and retreat as quickly as possible."

After Sam instructs them on what to do, Eve and Shor take a temporary position, he takes the newly captured dead animal, with him. He smeared his blood on the piece of bear meat. He and Jack slowly moved forward with the meat and carcasses of the animals in hand.

He placed the carcass of the animal in the middle of the bed they made and then took a step back before throwing the bear meat into the river.

As soon as he threw the lump, a huge disturbance could be heard from under the slowly flowing stream. Sam and Jack stood on both sides at a distance.

Slowly, a scaly figure came out of the river as it saw the dead rabbit with blood still warm there. It moved quickly and began to swallow it without bothering to look at Sam and the others.

"NOW!!" Sam roars as Eve and Shor light up the bed and run. The fire surrounded the crocodile which made him panic. He became confused like smoke and began to cloud his senses. Just as they were about to attack, Sam roared again.

"JACK!!!!! Go to the back."

As soon as he said that he moved and slashed with his axe right under the head while Jack stabbed with a bamboo spear at the back. The crocodile struggled, but Sam didn't give it a chance. Ignoring the heat wave from the fire, he pressed the crocodile's upper jaw with a leg and cut it again in the same spot, finally making it stop thrashing.

Sam was panting as he moved to the side. Jack also moved to the other side. Both were affected by the smoke and heat of the fire. Sam's pants had a slight burn on the end. He looked at the crocodile and thought. If not for the fact that he needed to earn points, he would never have taken the trouble to deal with a crocodile. The risk is higher when compared to ordinary land animals. One bite and we'll lose a big piece of meat along with the bone.

Just as he was about to relax.

"SAAM!!!!" shout Eve.

Sam squatted on the ground looking at the crocodile which was clearly larger than the previous one 1.5 times. It looks like a grown crocodile. The crocodile looked at Sam threateningly. He was the closest of everyone here to the beast.

When Jack saw the situation, he was about to make a move, but Sam gestured for him to stop. Crocodiles are very ferocious when compared to other animals. Many people have the misconception that crocodiles are slower on land that cannot be far from the truth. A little distraction when they are alert, they may go berserk.

Sam and the beast looked down. Suddenly the beast moved quickly towards him and he also lunged forward. Before the beast could open its huge mouth, Sam climbed onto its back and pressed his entire burden on it.

He used all his strength to cover his mouth, then humans and beasts wrestled as they rolled on the riverbed.

Jack was helpless when he saw the situation. He can't just interfere and attack because he can hurt Sam. So, he held onto his artificial bamboo sword tightly as he looked at his struggle.

"DAGGER" shouted Sam waking the people from their daze. Eve felt her hands tremble as she threw a dagger at Sam who fell nearby.

Sam and the crocodile continue wrestling. His clothes began to tear. [A/N: He is not wearing his coat as it would be considered an articraft]. His muscles bulged as he sweated profusely. After an intense effort, he finally held the dagger.

Then he rolled over and then with a dagger he started stabbing at the belly of the beast. For alligators, the skin is hard all over, and the only place that is relatively soft is the abdominal area. He stabbed continuously without stopping for a second. He poked until his arm hurt and a pool of blood formed underneath. Even after the beast stopped fighting, he still did not stop.

He stopped only after almost all of his stomach area was filled with holes. He nearly stabbed over thirty times.

Sam kicked the body to the side and sat down with great difficulty, Jack came to him and gave him some water. Eve and Shor put out the fire. They do not know what to say after seeing the struggle experienced by Sam.

After Sam regains his powers, He and Jack begin to dissect the animals. But there's no scroll in it.

The four of them gritted their teeth in frustration.

"What are we doing?" Jack asked while looking at Sam.

Sam calmed down and began to think, just as he was about to say something.
