Sam is on a secret jungle route and is accompanied by another human being.
This person was a spy who discovered a secret route to the city and he was also responsible for his fake identity.
After walking for a few hours, they arrived in the city.
When Sam saw the city, he didn't feel like a city on the border. People are busy and every street is full of activity. There was no gloom or worry about the war going to happen in the next fifteen days.
All the people are quite happy.
Sam noticed that most of the city was selling raw materials from animals and meat.
There was a shop full of fur and animal skins and some were selling their bones and teeth. There are only selling meat and there are also those who sell everything at once.
Sam had no idea that this much business was possible only with the savage beasts and materials they provided.
It's totally unexpected.
The spy takes Sam to a rundown house on the edge of town and gives some details about the city's current situation.
The western gate of the city leads to the border where their target regiments are stationed. There is also a northwestern gate where they entered. This gate led to the forest and there were many teams of hunters coming in and out, so this was the least suspicious place for them to enter.
From what Sam heard, the forest was full of wild beasts that lived in large herds and herds with high reproductive rates. This place has ideal conditions for animals to live and there is a perfect food chain from normal animals that do not have cultivation to animals that are of Pre-transcendent and transcendent level cultivation.
Almost half of the city makes a living from the forest and the other half makes a living from the products, the first half sells them.
Everyone was wearing some kind of fur or skin and even Sam was wearing it. His fur coat was too conspicuous in a place like this.
As for the information about the battalion, that was the only thing that these spies could not obtain. He even knew the corners of the city lord mansion, but he knew nothing about the soldiers stationed outside the west gate.
There were too many strict restrictions and in this period, no one was allowed to exit through the west gate.
Sam digested all the information and prepared to take a walk around the city. After taking a look, he realized that hunting was much more profitable in this city than he thought. Every team that came out would come with at least one ferocious beast.
There are some stores that specialize in preparing animals and separating meat, bones, teeth, or other valuable items such as scales and such, fur and leather, etc. They would prepare everything and hand the items back to their owners so that they could sell them at a higher price to the merchants.
Of course, they are completely raw and require some processing before they can be used to make products, but they still sell more.
Sam wandered around the city as he scanned it with eye techniques. He was just looking for luck and seeing if he could find any clues about the soldiers.
From what he heard, sometimes some soldiers would come and take some supplies from the city, and most of the time, they bought meat and a lot for their consumption.
Except for that one thing, there was not a single connection connecting the city and the border.
As he thought and wandered around, he saw a shop that specialized in selling inscription ink and other materials that made inscriptions.
He was a little interested and came in and he wasn't disappointed. This shop sells a myriad of useful inks for various inscriptions.
He looked at the shopkeeper, who was talking to someone with a serious expression. Sam didn't eavesdrop and let them talk because he was just standing at the door for some time.
After they finished talking and one of them left, he walked over to the shopkeeper and started a conversation.
He started choosing it, but not everything is available at the moment.
"What's going on? When are they available again?" Sam asked with a bit of disappointment.
"I don't know, there's been a shortage of Beast blood over the past month and some small shops that rely on animal blood to make business are closed. We don't know exactly what happened, but someone seemed to be buying animal blood even before us. There is very little inventory on the market today."
Sam frowned seeing this. From what he saw there was no shortage of ferocious beasts in the market and the hunters brought decent intake every day. But the lack of animal blood makes no sense when everything is fine.
He came out of the shop and walked aimlessly between the streets, until nightfall. The house they lived in gave a view of the west gate and they could see if anyone had come.
Sam was on guard that night with the spy.
As they waited for a long time, there was some activity at the west gate at midnight. Two people came through the west gate and started walking on the streets.
Although cultivators did not need much sleep, they still rested at night and the forest would be much more crowded and the beasts would be active at night than at normal times. So, they avoid it at all costs.
After they saw the two men coming through the city gate, Sam activated his shadow form and disappeared from the place. He reappeared on the roof and then started trailing the two of them by moving from one roof to another.
He followed from afar and kept a great distance between them. They were even beyond the reach of his superior spiritual senses, he had only used eye techniques to look at them from afar.
Soon, these two met a group of people at the other end of the city and within that group, Sam recognized one of them.
He was the one who was talking to the owner of the ink inscription shop.
He nodded and thought hard. There were still fourteen days left until the war, although it was not a long time, he did not dare to rush. This time, he had to deal with the army regiment, he had to be careful.
After the soldiers took something and left, he could see a group of people angrily looking at each other and seemed to be scolding someone.
He decided to return home and the next morning, he went deep into the forest and looked for prey to hunt. After some time, he found a large herd of deer-type beasts and he caught two of them and brought them back to the city.
He went straight to one of the processors who specialized in separating flesh, bones, and skin and gave the two animals away.
The shopkeeper processed the bodies within an hour. When Sam made the payment according to market standards, he only took three-quarters of it and said.
"We accidentally threw away his blood, so we'll buy the beast's blood at a market price. You can take the rest of the material."
Sam looked at the man suspiciously, but he still picked up the material and left.
This man was also part of the group he met last night. Sam did not wait long and went into the forest again. He looked for another beast and went to the processor next time as well he was surprised.
This man immediately asked for the blood of the beast.
"I have a son who is training to become an inscription master, I want to buy that beast's blood." Sam did not show any expression and sold this, before leaving the place. At night, he visited four shops and all of them made excuses to buy the beast's blood.
And they're all part of the group.
He was once again on guard at night, but that night nothing happened. He continued his visit to the remaining processing shops and that included a shop run by the man he had seen in the inscription shop.
After making sure that these people were buying blood directly, he was sure that this was related to the army at least there was a high possibility of them being related. He needs to investigate further and see what happens.
