Sam and Jack return to the camp with fox meat and sparkling daggers in their hands. By the time they arrived, the sun had already set and it was getting dark.
Moments later the four members sat around the fire as the fox meat was left to roast on it. Sam bit the roast in his hand and said.
“Tonight, we will stay here and from tomorrow onwards, we will move and every day we will set up a new camp at night. We should explore as many areas of this forest as possible in the remaining six days.
Our top priority is to look for animals and most of them are cruel.
Today we found the dagger when we dropped the fox. As the Elder said, we must seek danger for opportunity.
But animals are not the only danger we face. There are other places in the forest where we can get some benefits.
Sleep as much as possible for tonight. We're gonna beat the bear that's chasing us tomorrow.
Two people will sleep while the other two will be on guard, we will alternate in the middle."
After they finish dinner, Jack and Eve sleep on a makeshift bed made of some large leaves and grass while Sam and Shor stand guard.
Shor did not say anything as he continued to watch his surroundings while Sam worked with a dagger in his hand. He used a dagger on a slightly thinner bamboo stem while sharpening the tip of the stick like he was making a spear.
Meanwhile, he guarded and sharpened the ends one after another. The poles are not long because they are only three feet each. He skillfully sharpens ten poles by the time Jack wakes up with Eve and takes on guard duty.
Sam gives Jack a dagger and instructions to sharpen the stick as he does and goes to sleep.
While all four are in fit condition with food and fire along with comfortable sleep. The rest of the team was not lucky. These people had no idea of bow drills or any other technique that could create fire. Because, to the extent of their knowledge, fire can be made by a fire mage and if he is not available, a scroll or an articraft will do the trick. They clearly did not understand how to make fire.
All they could do was look for wild fruits and vegetables to feed. Some teams are lucky to find them and some people rest on empty stomachs. Worse still, now that they were ordinary humans, they had to endure the cold of the night weather and the wild mosquitoes curled up under the trees.
One of those groups was the group that left Sam. The group of four were now leaning against the tree as they huddled up to endure the coldness of the air. They would never have expected that they would have to live a life like this. The forest is truly a test for someone.
After they left the other four, they started walking, but the forest path was much more difficult to traverse than they thought. They were at least lucky enough not to meet other animals such as bears, but they failed to find fruit. The only silver lining was that they could get water from the river they encountered in the morning.
"That's all because of you. Goddamnit." Jessie gritted her teeth as she scolded Dustin as she slapped the mosquito in her hand to death. Her face lost all the elegance and pride she had in the morning. Now he looked haggard and pale. His clothes were dirty and he looked weak.
Dustin did not know what to say to this spoiled princess. He agrees that it was he who proposed the idea of pressuring Sam a little to satisfy their ego a little bit in order to get one out of it because of their jealousy on the first round score.
But the remaining two actually agreed to it and they were even a little happy at the time, but now this Jessie was completely blaming her. He just shook his head and turned his mind to Sam. He was thinking about how the remaining team in the forest was doing. He hoped they would suffer a little, so that he could feel better about himself.
The sun rose and the forest was full of birds chirping. Sam and Shor wake up. At this time the fire was extinguished and only a few live charcoal were left.
Sam made himself remove the drowsiness and walked towards the fire and put down a new dry stick, but did not let it burn, instead making him have a spark like living coal. He then walked towards the bamboo pole and cut out the bamboo section and placed the stick inside while covering both exposed ends with some green grass and finally made some holes on the outer surface of the bamboo pole.
He then walked towards some very tall bamboo trees and began to examine them by tapping on them in various parts, when he finally found what he wanted, he said, he used a large stick dagger to cut a tree near its roots.
After which he cut off some of the parts he had tapped before and in front of everyone's shocked gazes, he hollowed out the bamboo section and a transparent liquid immediately came out. He quickly put his mouth over the hole and drank the liquid with a pleasant expression on his face.
After emptying the passage, he looked at the rest and said. "This is one of the purest forms of water sources in the forest, if anything it will be refreshing." Then he gave the remaining water to them.
After everyone got the water, they looked towards Sam to hear his instructions. He then looked at the group and asked.
"I am a warrior of the fire element magician. What about you guys?" The question was addressed to the two strangers but Jack also replied.
"I am a fighter. Swordsman."
"I'm a witch of the earth element" Shor said.
"I am a wood element witch." Eve answered.
Sam was stunned by this situation. He did not know if it was luck or bad luck to have these two people in the team. Because, both of their abilities were most beneficial in the forest at once he could not use them. After all, even if he gave them a scroll that could be used to unlock their cultivation seals, there was a chance they would betray him. Now he felt conflicted and he could only find one solution.
He had to find enough scrolls for everyone, if he wanted to go use their abilities to make sure they had no thoughts of stabbing him in the back. And giving them a roll first is really impossible.
He quickly dismissed the thought and said. "Today our target is the bear. We have to make sure that we can kill him properly and we can't risk being wrong in the plan because it can take our lives. But I can assure you that the reward will be high.
First of all, we should reach around his hiding place without him noticing.
For that we need to take some precautions and the first is we need to hide our scent. Bears are one of the animals that have a keen sense of smell and if we give it a slight smell, we will run out. In fact, scent is the main reason we discovered it so quickly yesterday.
The second thing is, we need to make sure that we make as little sound as possible. Since this was a forest, the bear would not disturb every sound, but a large movement would warn him to move.
Eve instantly closed her eyes and turned around to avoid staring at the man, whereas the man himself seemed to not care at all.
Jack and Shor are dumbfounded as they look at Sam's actions without shame. When Sam finished his task, putting on his clothes after soaking them in mud, he turned around and looked at the three people, then only realized what was happening and he could only shake his head with a wry smile. He feels back to the time when he was a soldier who carried out missions in the forest. He did not feel awkward naked in front of the team at all because that was how he was in his past life.
Sam simply ignored the matter and instructed the entire team, to apply mud as it made its way back to the camp. After a while, the three people returned with their entire bodies covered in mud.
He then stood up and said. “We need to prepare something to trap that bear. Although we can deal with it if we try our hardest, we will be exhausted in the end and if the other team sees us, we will fail completely.
Before that, let's go and find out where the bear house is. After that we can think of the rest of his plan."
Sam, Jack and Shor were walking while carrying a spiky bamboo trunk and Eve carried a bamboo section where she put a dry stick with sparks.
Soon, they arrived where they opened their eyes yesterday. Sam then started looking for the bear trail and eventually found it and from then on, they slowly and carefully followed that trail.
After walking for over an hour, they finally found a cave before their eyes. Sam stopped them and changed lanes as they walked in different directions, after they reached a considerable distance and found a safe place, he lowered the pole.
"We're going to make this preparation here. Jack, you stay near the cave and tell us as soon as the bear leaves the cave and also see which way it's going." After giving instructions to Jack, he took out the rope he made from the outer layer of bamboo and started tying the pole. He made three frames from the eighteen poles he and Jack made.
"You two went to find a nearby place and found a beehive. Also check if you can find some vines nearby. Don't go too far." He instructed Eve and Shor and then walked towards a nearby tree with a dagger.
The tree is not too thick. It's just about averages. He put the tip of the dagger on the tree and used the stick as a hammer and started to cut down the tree bit by bit.
After some time, Shor and Eve returned. But Sam was still only one-third of the tree trunk. He still did not stop after their arrival and after a terrible attempt, the tree finally fell down.
But Sam was still unfinished when he started cutting wood on the top side of the trunk. After all, he made that trap. When he was almost done with it, Jack came and told him about the bear's departure.
Sam soon gets a warning and becomes faster in his actions. He turned towards Shor and Eve.
"We found both, but we don't know how to take them." Shor said in an awkward tone. Then only Sam realizes that he forgot the fact that he was dealing with amateurs.
"Shor, go and guard near the bear cave. Eve lead me and Jack to the vines and beehives."
Shor nodded and left just in case. Eve leads Sam, who holds a stick and a live dry wood (dry wood with sparks) with her and Jack to the beehive.
"You two go and get some vines." Sam gives Jack a dagger and tells them to leave.
He lit a small fire nearby and started burning some green grass and he put the burning green grass near the beehive with the help of a pole. Soon, due to the smoke, the bees begin to fall from the hive and Sam gets the honey he needs.
Soon, Jack comes with the vines with Eve and they all walk towards where they are camping temporarily.
Sam started setting up wooden traps with vines and logs. He set the trap in such a way that if the bear stepped on the rope, a block of wood would come and hit the person stepping on the rope. Of course, the rest don't understand.
Meanwhile, with his instructions, Eve and Jack worked on a tree that was parallel to the wooden swing path and tied three frames made with bamboo spikes he made.
He makes the items with Jack's help as soon as possible, fearing the bear will return. When he finally finished with the trap.
He halved the honeycomb which was filled and placed in half near the rope and covered the rope with some dead leaves. Then he took the other half and squeezed it a little. Honey started dripping from him. He then turned towards Eve.
"You, take the nest and make a trail of honey until you can see the cave and drop the nest there and you and Shor climb the tree as quickly as possible and stay still without making a sound.
Eve nodded and began to do the task.
Then he turned towards Jack and said. "After we have lured the bear here, we must make sure that we kill it, otherwise the beast in its final struggle is an absolute nightmare." Sam said and gave Jack a bamboo spear as the two climbed two trees which was the position they had to take each to make the final move.
After waiting for about an hour, they finally heard the footsteps and growling of the bear that made the two alert. Soon, they saw a bear sniffing and licking a trail of honey and immediately ran for joy after seeing the nest.
Before the bear could reach the nest, the trap was activated and a stick was swung at full force towards the bear. The bear sensed danger and tried to avoid it by retreating, but the log still hit its upper ribs and threw it into the tree with bamboo spikes.
The bear hit the tree and the nails pierced into it even if only slightly. But Sam was not happy when he saw the bear was still moving.
"NOW" He shouted and he and Jack moved at the same time like spears and daggers that were both piercing the bear's eyes at the same time, capturing his movements.
Although the plan worked, Sam was not happy. He felt it was almost impassable when he saw the bear's wound.
The nails placed on the tree hardly damage. If he and Jack don't take advantage of the bear's confused state, they may be in trouble because they can't face the bear, even in injury due to a wood trap as it will make it difficult to fight. the bear is on a rampage.
He underestimated the animals in this world. Just like them because they were stronger than humans from the earth even in their normal human state after their cultivation was sealed, animals were also slightly stronger. Sam marks this thought in his mind as he tells Jack to call Eve and Shor back, while he retrieves the bear's corpse.
