The atmosphere of the dining table that is too lively actually makes Kanya feel more awkward in the middle of the Araz family. Everyone who sat around the large table with various kinds of food, so warmly welcomed his arrival. However, it still makes Kanya not feel comfortable.
In fact, Araz's mother is a friendly and warm-hearted woman. Likewise with his father who is a retired police general. Despite being strict with Araz, the man was so warm as to treat him as a guest. In addition, Araz's maternal uncle and aunt, who came to celebrate his nephew's birthday tonight, were also among the warmest. So are Araz's two cousins who became familiar with Kanya as soon as they became acquainted. Eros and Jenna. Two boys-girl twins who are still in college fourth semester, welcomed Kanya with a friendly. Especially when hearing Araz's remark that Kanya is the future mother of her children later who was mentioned proudly by the man.
Even so, Kanya still remains clumsy. He's not used to being in the Araz family yet. Only occasionally did he answer their questions if anyone asked him. If only his condition was not as bad as his current appearance, of course Kanya could be more confident as usual.
Unknowingly, Kanya grunts angrily as she remembers how stubborn Araz was when he suddenly invited her home to Bandung.
"Your face is more beautiful when you frown," seduced Araz who sat beside Kanya when he heard the woman sigh.
"This is also because of Mas Araz," Kanya said slowly, but with great emphasis. The man smiled in response to his lover's statement.
"Add the side dish, Kanya. Don't hesitate," said Araz's father, watching Kanya's plate, which contains only a few slices of sour-sweet gurame fish with a little rice.
"Take the vegetables too, Kanya. Don't shy. Araz shouldn't have brought you home this late, let's be more free at dinner" added the woman sitting next to Araz's father.
The woman who had given birth to Araz, looked so happy. He even thrust a bowl full of chicken opor - as well as several other side dishes and vegetables - in front of Kanya. Ask the woman to eat it. Kanya who did not know how to respond, just nodded politely. At the dinner table at this time, only himself and Araz were still enjoying dinner. Meanwhile, Araz's father, eomma, uncle, aunt, and cousin had already finished their dinner.
"Thank you, Auntie," Kanya refused clumsily. Araz who was secretly watching Kanya, smiled. She simply did not expect that Kanya would look so awkward in front of her parents.
"Sister, Aunt's most delicious kimchi. Kanya's feet should try."
Jenna who sat opposite Kanya also offered a side dish in front of the girl. The girl even unshakably scooped up the kimchi and placed it on Kanya's plate. Then, add the roast beef that is still hissing. Jenna teaches Kanya how to enjoy grilled meat with kimchi at the same time.
Again Araz smiled when he saw Kanya's reaction that looked so awkward. Even so, her lover still tried to be ordinary with the treatment of Jenna who was so friendly.
"Where, good?" jenna asked as soon as Kanya fed a piece of roasted beef wrapped in kimchi-flavored gochujang sauce.
Kanya could not deny if a mouthful of kimchi that had just been chewed was indeed so delicious. For a long time, only this time Kanya enjoyed this kimchi sauce. Even when he had a visit to Korea and enjoyed the country's special food first hand, it did not taste as good as Araz's mother's. The combination of spicy, sour, and sweet is so fitting, that it feels like he wants to cry moved because it is so delicious. Especially combined with the taste of soft and savory roast beef.
"It's the best kimchi I've ever eaten" Kanya said as she was and made the atmosphere at the dinner table even warmer.
"Jen, my girlfriend can be overflowing if you keep feeding her," Araz scolded at the sight of her cousin still trying to offer Kanya kimchi.
"It's okay. Good food should be enjoyed until the toilet. There can't be any leftovers."
"Yes, but if the kanyangan is also not good, Jen."
The debate between Jenna and Araz provoked laughter. The two cousins never got along. There's always something they argue about. And this time, good food became the subject of debate for those who did not also stop arguing. Meanwhile, Jenna's twin sister - Eros - is more silent and cool. He did not want to get involved in the debate between Araz and his twin. Even as Jenna pleads with him to stand up for the girl. Eros was still acting indifferent and threw his gaze in the other direction. It was in stark contrast to the warm atmosphere that radiated on everyone's face. And, the attitude of the guy who may still be in his 20s that year, can not be separated from Kanya's observation.
Until the woman's attention is distracted by Araz's mother who gives him a bowl of seaweed soup.
"Eat while it's still warm. Eomma should have prepared this for you before dinner. The sequence got messed up because Araz took you home too late. Though he said that he could not go home, but suddenly appeared and gave a surprise. Tomorrow morning, Eomma will definitely prepare a delicious meal for you and not just food like tonight" Araz's mother said, making Kanya awkward again. Though the food on the table is so diverse and luxurious. How can Araz's mom say if it's just food.
"No need to bother, Auntie. All of this is more than enough" Kanya said clumsily.
"Ei, how could that be. Aunty has to show you real cooking skills. Besides, thanks to you, Araz wants to go home."
"Eomma," Araz protested when his mother told Kanya that.
"It is so true. Where would you go if you weren't with Kanya?"
"Ne, Miane, Amma. After this, Araz will go home more often during the weekend, but on one condition, I have to replace the Araz apartment that is sold."
Although faint, Kanya was able to catch the change in Araz's father's facial expression. While Araz's mother just hit the boy's head slowly.
"Don't make Kanya feel uncomfortable with unnecessary discussion. Quickly finish your seaweed soup before the blessing is gone," said Araz's mother once again firmly. "You too Kanya, quickly eat while still warm. Tomorrow, Auntie will cook you good food."
Kanya just nodded politely as she fed the seaweed soup. Although not sure what the meaning of seaweed soup for someone who is on his birthday, Kanya quite enjoy the taste of the delicious and savory soup made by Araz's mother.
"It's still not much, Kanya. Tomorrow, you'll know how to greet a real guest" whispered Araz as soon as his mother returned to where he had originally sat. Kanya could only sigh.
