The Dark Slayer's
[S2] Chapter 3: The Path I Chose

Under the bright moonlight that shone, I looked straight at the brown eyes of a strange creature. The gray-colored armor that was on his shoulders, shimmered from being exposed to the moonlight. We just looked at each other, without saying anything, making the atmosphere awkward. To dilute the awkward atmosphere, a sentence was thrown from my mouth.

“What do you want from me?”

Even though he didn't say it directly, I knew that he was the one who had saved me. However, the reason for doing so, really makes this self confused and wondering.

“You still haven't answered my question before.” The brown-skinned creature, grasping tightly the whip in his right hand.

A very bad situation, he seemed to say; if you answer no, then your life will drift. So, inevitably, it seems I have to answer yes, so that lives can be saved.

“Before I answer, there is one thing I want to ask you.”

“What's it?”

“In this forest, there are nine Clans, and one of them is the Snake Clan. The question is, what clan are you from?”

The creature, extending his left arm. For a moment, my eyes glanced at him, then found a black snake tattoo, right there.

“Now, you already know ‘kan?”

It was true, that this tattoo showed his identity as one of the members of the Snake Clan. However, how could he know that I am also from the same Clan as him. Is he just guessing, or maybe ....

I glanced and observed the strange creature that was in front of me. There was nothing strange that I could find out about him. He just looked like a skinny, malnourished creature. His body is really small.

“What do you see?” The creature snorted, as I stared at him in a short time.

I sighed, then immediately put both hands in my pants pocket. Why am I still dressed? Not like before? Because the change in my form was very limited, not even fifty percent. My body was also not enlarged, only the color of my skin, fangs, and claws changed.

The hooded black jacket I was wearing was also undamaged, so the cold air was not really felt. “Don't we be allies, Weird Beings.”

“Indeed, in fact we are already partners. But ...”

The creature clenched both hands, its head bowed to the ground. “I am a man who is no longer human. See, this self is like a monster.”

“No, it's impossible to do.”

“Must be? What do you mean?”

“Actually, there are two types of Evolution ...”

The creature explains about the types of Evolution, among which are; Temporary Evolution, and Permanent Evolution. Temporary Evolution is an Evolution in which a human being can change his form as he pleases, by fulfilling a condition. For example, I can change through despair. The deeper the despair, the higher I can evolve.

Meanwhile, Permanent Evolution is an Evolution that occurs due to change for too long, beyond the limits that should be. When one forces oneself to maintain its Evolutionary form, the cells in the body will change entirely. How to maintain Evolution is very easy, just need to fill the energy by eating raw meat—the best is human meat.

After explaining evolution to me at length, the creature looked up, staring at the brightly shining stars. “That's why I can be what I am today. Now I regret having fought so hard to save those who ended up dumping me.”

A very tragic story, dumped after saving just for the reason that he had completely evolved without being able to change his form again. There were many reasons why he was abandoned, one of them; his comrades were afraid that he would lose control and then kill indiscriminately. However, there is one thing that I cannot yet understand from this situation.

“So, why did you even intend to commit suicide by taking the herd of teenagers?”

“Who would commit suicide? I did it just out of frustration and wanted to distract.”

In other words, he was about to vent his anger on innocent people. Although there is no prohibition to kill in this forest. Because the law applies. I don't know who created a place like this, they are so cruel.

“It was the dumbest action I've ever seen.”

“I know, if all that is just a waste of time, but I can not stem my desire.”

In fact it is a very human nature, where an ego can make us act without a second thought. It's undeniable, because I'm like that too.

“After hearing all the explanations and incongruous rants. Do you want to be my ally?”

A question that made me have to think things through carefully. Choosing to agree or not is very influential in the future. Now, let's think of a comparison if say ‘iya’ and ‘no’. When saying ‘iya’ this life will survive without the need to fight desperately, but my future seems to be tied to this strange creature. However, if I say no, there is a chance that my life will be lost.

All right, time to make a choice. I took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly and began to answer.
