Chapter 6: 6
“Blowout!”
The ground trembled slightly as John slammed into it violently, his knees almost bent under the force of the landing. A satisfied smile enveloped John's face as he looked back towards the balcony, admiring the distance he had just fallen.
“Hahaha. Falling like that would have killed me before. I think I'm really in Body Refinement” realm John exclaimed happily.
“What should I do next? Normally I would go to the martial library to read around this time, but I could not sit still after a situation like this developed. “I have to go to the martial arts training ground and test my new strength. Most of the other kids are supposed to be practicing weapons skills right now.”
Brushing the dust that had emerged from the landing, John began walking towards the martial practice area, arriving there a few minutes later. He looked towards the training ground and noticed all the other children we were fighting with weapons, with some Elders instructing them on how to improve.
“Ah John, have you decided to join us for weapons training today?” ask Elder Huran. Elder Huran was one of the older and stronger Elders, and was the Elder Leader in charge of training the children. He had a bald head and a full white beard, with a rather large stomach protruding out. His strong arms looked as if they could tear apart a huge rock easily.
“Ya” replied John. He walked towards the Elder and said his regards.
“Good. Ethan over there needs a matchmaker.” Elder Huran said. Elder Huran then shouted “Ethan, John will be your match partner. Remember, this is just a spar gun practice. Don't use your cultivation base.”
Ethan was thirteen years old and had a cultivation in the Blood Refinement realm. He was the son of one of the Elders of the clan and was extremely talented for his age. Ethan turned towards Elder when he heard his name being called before seeing John approaching him.
“Alright” replied Ethan with a slightly irritated face. For weapon match practice, using one's cultivation base is not allowed because the purpose of the training is to improve the weapon skill, not overwhelm the opponent with strength.
Ever since John realized that he was unable to cultivate, he had focused on all the areas he could intensely improve. These fields include academics, martial theory, and also weapons skills. Of all the children in the clan, John was the most skilled in almost all types of weapons. As a result, most children feel stifled when competing against John, because no child can beat John during a spar, despite knowing they are much stronger than him.
John walks towards the sparring arena where Ethan is standing. On his way, he picked up a blunt sword from a nearby weapon rack. Weapons available during weapons training are not used to ensure no serious injuries are inflicted on the participants.
John steps into the sparring circle and stands ten feet away from Ethan and lifts his sword. The two participants held their swords in their right hands. John quickly took two steps forward, raised his sword and slashed his opponent's head. Ethan raises his sword and meets Johns, successfully fending off the attack.
“Peng!”
While John's sword was still on top of his head from the parry, Ethan reached out his hand in a counterattack and stabbed towards John's head. Twisting his body, John easily dodges the approaching sword and with the hilt of his sword hits Ethan's hand causing him to drop his sword. John has won this set.
The two retreated ten feet once more. Ethan charged forward, a little angry at his loss just now. He raised his sword above his head with both hands and sliced down. John lazily steps to the right and sees Ethan's sword hitting the ground. Ethan's head followed John as he moved to the side, he rushed to regain balance and quickly followed by a sideways slash taking a step forward following the momentum from his initial attack.
John stepped back with one foot to widen his position and raised his sword and managed to fend off the attack. John notices that Ethan's stance is narrow and unbalanced. John steps forward and slashes Ethan's neck. Ethan turned right and awkwardly blocked the powerful attack. He's totally out of balance. John follows up with a simple kick in the knee and Ethan faints.
Ethan stood furious over his continued defeat. John and Ethan once again stood ten feet apart and stared at each other for a few seconds. Suddenly, John ran forward, swinging his sword from an awkward angle towards Ethan's head.
“Peng!”
Ethan raises his sword and meets John's sword, successfully fending off the attack. John strikes again with his sword at a lower angle, causing Ethan to awkwardly deflect his attack. Expecting this, John's right foot was already kicking forward at a low angle, targeting Ethan's foot. Not expecting a sudden follow-up from John, Ethan loses his balance as John's kick causes him to stumble slightly.
This opening was what John needed, as he rushed forward to deliver the final blow. John's flat sword struck Ethan on the side of his head, making him fly several feet back and fall to the ground.
“Agh, b*Jing*n ” shouted Ethan.
Ethan stood up and looked at John, an angry expression on his face. Suddenly, Ethan runs towards John and punches him with all his strength. Although Ethan did not dare to kill John, he felt breaking a few bones was not too big of a problem.
“Gah!”
John and Ethan's fists collide, and Ethan is thrown backwards, rolling around several times before finally stopping twenty feet away. Everyone in the area immediately stopped their sparing and looked towards the scene that had just opened, shocked expressions on all their faces.
Ethan struggles to stand up, but is unable to muster the strength to do so. The surprised Elder Huran stood there for a few seconds before running towards Ethan, taking out a small green pill in his mouth after he arrived.
“John, what just happened?” Ryan called as he ran towards John.
John smiled wryly and replied “Ethan suddenly attacked me with full force, so I had no choice but to respond well.”
“Oh. Yes, I suddenly woke up this morning and it turned out that I could cultivate” John replied. He thought keeping the truth about what had actually happened was a smart idea, as his parents obviously did not want the clan to know about the ball.
“Ap..what? You woke up ... and can cultivate…? How does that make sense?” asked Ryan who was stunned.
“Your guess is as good as my guess. I just woke up and was a Body” Refining cultivator John replied.
“How do you hit Ethan back? He is already at the Blood Refinement stage?” Ryan followed up, the look of shock on his face still there.
“Oh. I'm in the Muscle Enhancement stage. I think all of the precious pills that the clan has given me over the past few years have finally succeeded. That's all it occurred to me why I went straight to Muscle Narrowing” John replied timidly.
Ryan looked at John as if he was truly an anomaly. Although John is now a Muscle Narrowing Cultivator, Ethan is one level higher in Blood Narrowing. Usually level jumping was almost impossible, and was something reserved only for the most talented geniuses. Ryan didn't know how to follow up on what John had just said, so he stood there in silence for a few seconds. Gathering his composure, Ryan began to laugh out loud.
“Hahahaha, whatever the reason, you end up becoming a cultivator. I know heaven won't be blind forever” exclaimed Ryan happily as he patted John on the back. He continued, “Come on John, let's argue. Let me test your new strength.”
“Alright” replied John. The two of them started walking into the empty part of the martial arena, when from behind them, Elder Huran called out. “John, you are a cultivator now?”
“Ya” replied John, giving no further clarification.
Elder Huran was at a loss for words, before he finally said “After all, you didn't need to use so much force for the attack just now. I saw everything so I know you're not the wrong person, but remember to control your power in the future. After all, this is a member of your own clan. ”
“I understand Elder Huran,” replied John. John and Ryan then continued walking into the empty section of the martial arena.
To the side of the martial arena,
“John can cultivate now?” yell one of the boys.
“Even if he could, he was only a Body Refining cultivator. He was already far behind from those years of cultivation that were missed. Garbage will forever be garbage” said another, looking towards Parker. Parker had an indifferent expression on his face as if everything that happened was none of his business, before returning to his partner's sparring and continuing his training.
“Show me what you've got” shouted Ryan, an excited expression visible on his face. John smiled at Ryan before running towards him. The sun started to set, emitting a brilliant orange color above the martial arena as the two of them trained hard for several hours before falling to the ground from exhaustion.
“Huff, huff-noodle. Even though I limited my cultivation base to the Blood Refinement level, I still can't beat you” Ryan said, gasping with breath.
“Huff. Well, I didn't win either. But don't worry, it won't be long until I catch up to your cultivation level, so you don't need to limit your strength” replied John with a grin on his face.
“As if” reply Ryan.
The two of them set their breaths before rising from the ground and clearing the dust from their dirty robes. “Wah, I'm starving” exclaimed John. He had not eaten for days, and his stomach was rumbling in protest.
“I'll be home to eat and shower. I'll catch up with you tomorrow. Thanks for the spare” John told Ryan. He bid farewell to Ryan and Elder Huran before returning home. John arrives home and sits down to dinner with his family.
Barden Fenix sipped another glass of wine, swaying slightly as he turned to John. “I talked to my dad about you. He agreed that this was an amazing event worth celebrating. We will hold a party in your honor soon, and invite some nearby clans to join in the celebration.”
John smiled happily as he gulped down the Golden Ox soup again. He chatted with his parents for some time before going to his bedroom. John bathed and put on a new robe, before falling onto his bed, a smile still lingered on his face as he fell asleep.
Later that night.
In another part of the clan, clan leader Cade Fenix was seen kneeling in front of a shadowy figure.
“Barden told me today that John can now cultivate. He had apparently found the item a few days ago as well, and was currently missing. What should we do?” ask Cade Fenix.
“Nothing. For the time being. Let's look at John and see what happens. I hope this turns out to be a great fortune for the clan, but if not, I will handle it myself” replied the shadow figure.
“As of You,” replied Cade before leaving the room quietly.
