Chapter 4: 4
John turned around and looked back at the basement. For some reason that he couldn't explain, John felt that there was something down here, calling out to him. The feeling was so fleeting that John could not decide if it was his true feelings or just his imagination.
He decided to follow his premonition and return to the basement, walking around to see if he could find the source of those feelings.
“Any,” thought John. “I obviously feel as if there's something down here, but I can't find anything.” John continued walking around the basement for a few minutes until he found himself in the far corner of the basement, facing the wall. He felt as if this was where the remaining feelings came from.
“I don't see anything extraordinary, it's just a brick wall” thought John. “Maybe there is something on the wall, or hidden behind it.”
John began to feel every brick on the wall, seeing if any bricks were loose and revealing whatever was calling him behind it. John's looking for a few minutes up, uh,
The bricks John touched were pressed slightly inward. As John retreated, he could hear some intrigue working behind the wall before the wall slowly split open, revealing dark corridors and narrow stairs leading downwards. John peered into the dark staircase, but could not see what was below, or how far the ladder was down.
“Why is there such a thing here? What mom and dad are trying to hide” thought John.
He thought of going back upstairs to ask them about it, but decided not to. Whatever was down there, his parents obviously wanted to hide it from him and others. John walked back to the main area of the basement and found a torch and flint. He lit a torch and walked back to the stairs, where he stood for a few minutes.
“Yeah, standing here won't solve anything. I've always been brave, so why should this be any different. Besides, I doubt father and mother will keep anything life-threatening in our own home,” thought John.
He took his first step up the stairs, pausing for a moment before continuing down. Carefully, step by step, John descended the stairs.
“I've been walking for a minute. How far is this ladder? And why should it be so deep?” John wondered. After thirty seconds of walking, John finally saw the narrow staircase open. Stepping up from the stairs, John peered into the darkness in front of him.
The torchlight barely showed the vast area of the cave in front of him, but it was not bright enough to illuminate the entire room. Looking around at the entrance of the room, John noticed the formation disk and pressed his hand against it. A light suddenly illuminated the room in front of him.
Shock flashed across John's face as the room was revealed to him. A dazzlingly bright spirit crystal embedded in the ceiling illuminated by the formation plate he had pushed revealed a room fifty feet wide and thirty feet high, the source said, with one large white marble altar in the middle.
The altar stood on a small platform, with white stairs on each side leading to the platform. John stared at the scene in front of him for a few minutes before walking towards the altar in the middle. As he approached, the feeling he had earlier started to increase.
“Obviously whatever called me, it was on top of this altar,” thought John inwardly.
John arrived at the bottom of the stairs and calmed down before taking a step-by-step climb up the stairs. He arrived on the stage and walked to the altar, the feeling growing stronger. John stopped when he was three feet away from the altar, staring at the object above him.
On top of the chest, a tall altar lay a small round ball, roughly the size of a large grape. It was as black as the void of space, and exuded a thin red and black aura so John thought he had dove into hell for a moment. Returning to his senses after a few seconds, John quickly retreated, his heartbeat pounding.
“Why do my parents have something like this?” John exclaims. This environment was unlike anything John had ever seen before, or even read. It was something that was completely beyond his comprehension. John stood there for a few minutes staring at the ball, afraid to get close but reluctant to leave. Even though he did not sense any danger from the orb, the remaining aura was enough to frighten anyone.
Before he knew it himself, his hand grabbed the ball, was about to pick it up. After coming to his senses, he stopped himself at the last moment, but did not pull back his hand. His hands were floating there for some time.
“Damn it, whatever it is, I'm interested in him for a reason. I'll trust my instincts this once and hope it really doesn't kill me”
As his fingers touched the ball, intense pain swept through his entire body. John gasped but found no relief. The air was hot, like it was filled with ash and smoke. John's legs collapsed, his knees hitting the ground as he wrapped his arms around his chest and tightened every muscle in his body. His vision turned white. His sensation quickly spread throughout his body and quickly his intensity began to increase. The torture seems to have no end.
After what felt like an eternity, John felt as if the chains inside him were breaking. John's eyes opened wide, his mouth following. The pain increased tenfold. John felt his stomach being torn apart, his muscles being detached from his bones and organs violently exploding. He thought he was going to die, but suddenly, the pain subsided, and he fell to the floor, unconscious.
The darkness swept over John.
He felt like he was floating in the void, without time. He felt like he had been floating for good, and also in an instant.
John managed to open his eyes slowly, looking at the scene in front of him. The air was filled with a hazy gray mist, like the morning after the fresh dew was only thicker. There seems to be no light source, but the world is illuminated enough to see. The world before him seemed endless. Every direction John saw was filled with gray fog and in the distance, he only saw endless darkness.
“What is this place?” john was surprised.
In front of John stood a huge white palace, so majestic that John could not believe his eyes. Never in his wildest dreams could he imagine a place as grand and as real as this palace. The palace stretched as far as the eye could see, and towered tens of thousands of feet into the sky.
The endless huge tower, thousands of feet tall, made of perfect white stone, marble, and gold lined up in the palace. Each spire is surrounded by hundreds of amazing statues of large animals and impressive humans. The statues were so lifelike that John initially thought they were guards.
After gazing at the palace for what felt like immortality, John began to walk towards it, finally finding himself in front of a huge white gate, thousands of feet tall. On each side of the gate, huge ivory white dragons could be seen, their scales were coated in gold, eyes shining green like bewitched jade. The gate cross was thick, with a diameter of about twenty feet. They were white like pearls and covered in extremely thin golden flowers.
Suddenly, the large gate in front of him slowly began to open. When the gate was fully open, a path lit up itself in front of John, as if asking him to walk through the gate. John hesitated for a moment before stepping forward, walking through the large gate and into the palace.
As John stepped through the palace door, a holy aura swept over him. A feeling of pure serenity and peace surrounded John, he felt as if his entire being had been cleansed and reborn. He closed his eyes and bathed that feeling for a few minutes before opening his eyes again.
The palace entrance is incredible. The walls stand hundreds of feet tall and are made of solid white marble, the ceiling is curved and filled with tiny gold stars that emit light and reflect the night sky. To the left and right of the entrance hall were large hallways. A long spiral staircase follows the wall upward toward a large curved door made of solid white stone. The stairs were lined with golden fences and had intricate patterns of ferocious beasts and flora carved along its sides. Under the stairs, there were five doors with a height and width of tens of meters.
John stood on a clean white marble floor with a circular floral medallion in the center of the room. It was made with at least ten types of stones and was perfectly symmetrical.
In front of John was a large hallway lined with colossal statues made of flawless stone. On the right side, there is a statue of a man with different heroic poses. The man seemed to be middle-aged, he had long hair smeared, a chiseled face, a pair of sharp eyes that were as if they could see all of creation. He held a majestic sword in his hand, and it seemed like he could split through the sky itself.
Opposite him, the statues depict a woman. He had luxurious robes, long hair that was smeared, and a face that would overthrow the kingdom and destroy the kingdom. Similar to the man, he also had an aura of majesty surrounding him.
John walked through the room towards the statue in front of him. As he walked, an additional star on the ceiling above lit up, illuminating the entire hallway in front of him, and revealing an endless statue in the hall and a large white door at the end. He studied each statue as he continued down the hall, and after some time he finally reached the end and stood before the white door that was hundreds of feet tall and wide.
He checked the magnificent gold jewelry embedded in the door and wondered to himself, “How can I open a door this big?”
Surprisingly, he moved to put his hand on the door in front of him. As if noticing his touch, the door began to open slowly, revealing a room behind him.
The room was larger than the previous hallway and entrance hall. Throughout the room countless white pillars adorned the floor, each pillar was large enough to require several people to embrace it. John's eyes followed the pillar upward to the ceiling. Surprisingly, the ceiling is invisible. A light gray mist filled the top of the room.
As John stepped into the room, a ray of light pierced through the fog and illuminated the path in front of him. John continued forward, following a path that was illuminated along thousands of feet. At the end of the room stood a large white marble gate.
The gate was different from the one before. It stood on a platform that had a gray oval-shaped staircase leading to it. Standing thousands of feet wide, the gate had nine chains that secured it. Each chain was tens of feet thick and stretched across the entire gate, seemingly locking something inside. Far away on each side of the gate, stood large doors at the end of each side of the room but John did not notice them due to the imposing presence of what stood before him.
Floating high above the ground in front of the gate was a translucent ball several meters away. Inside that ball, ten thick red blood balls could be seen revolving around each other, seemingly in an endless heavenly dance.
John climbed the oval staircase to the gate. As he stepped under the translucent ball, one of the drops of blood slowly began to descend. As soon as it left protection from the translucent ball, the hum stopped. The silence surprised John. He felt an extremely powerful and holy aura sweep over him. He tried to retreat from the ball but it turned out that he could no longer move.
“Why can't I move?” John shouted as he struggled to escape his restraint.
Despite using all his strength, John could not move an inch, and could only watch helplessly as the drops of blood dropped until right in front of him. John stared at the drops of blood, at which point it slowly began to move into the middle of his chest. John was not sure what this blood was, but after his experience with black balls, he did not want to touch anything he did not understand.
“Go from me” cried John, but no matter what he tried, he could not move. The drops of blood approached John before slowly fusing into his chest. Waves of intense pain struck John, and he felt as if he was about to explode. An enormous energy rippled throughout his body, threatening to destroy it.
“So this is how I die huh?” john thought while trying to endure the pain.
The glow.
John slowly opens his eyes, only to find himself bedridden in his home. Confused, he looked around hoping to see the magnificent palace he had just entered, but could only see his mother sitting by his bedside, looking at him anxiously.
