Chapter 16: 16
“How long have I been cultivating?” john thought as he stood up and looked out the window. The moon was high in the sky, signaling that at least several hours had passed since he started cultivating.
“Any, it feels like no time at all” thought John. “Well, I think it's time for bed. Tomorrow is when the real journey begins.”
The next morning, John sat on his bed for a few minutes before getting up and walking into the hallway. Downstairs, John notices some men fainting at their desks from drunkenness.
After ordering breakfast from the innkeeper, John sat down at the table and ate his breakfast.
“This may be the last good meal I have for a while,” John thought as he finished his meal.
After he finished eating, John walked out of the Inn and explored the city for a bit. The city had many different buildings, ranging from trade halls to brothels, but nothing of interest caught his eye.
“Looks like I'm going out,” thought John as he turned south of the city and headed for the trees nearby. The Skycleave Mountains are visible in the distance, their peaks jutting high into the sky.
After walking for a few minutes, John arrived in front of the forest and paused for a moment before entering. Bright sunlight was soon replaced with a darker atmosphere as the dense tree cover stopped most of the sunlight. Large trees several feet wide and hundreds of feet high were visible everywhere.
Taking care of his surroundings, John ventured further into the forest. Unlike the forest surrounding the Fenix clan, the trees here were not marked at all, so John had to rely on his intuition as to where to travel.
“From what I know, this part of the forest should still be an area with a relatively low level of animals. As the path diverged further northeast from the Skycleave Mountains, the level of beasts would continue to increase. It should have taken a few days before I needed to do it. It was worrying all around me “ thought John while wandering through the forest.
After walking for an entire day, John still had not found any signs of an animal worth fighting.
“Although I saw some low-level monsters before, it won't be too challenging. Oh okay. I will set up camp for today and continue heading deeper into the forest tomorrow.”
John quickly makes an imperfect campground before sitting down and farming again. A few hours later, John emerges from his meditative trance.
“It seems to be happening again. I'm not sure what the reason is, but I can say that my cultivation has grown quite rapidly lately. I should have been able to reach Fog” Creation realm soon Thought John with an excited expression on his face .
After standing, John took out one of the items his father had given him and put it up. It was a small formation disk, and when activated set an invisible perimeter around the disk. If anything moves within a hundred-yard radius, John will be notified. After setting the perimeter, John fell asleep.
The next morning, John awakens due to calls from various animals and insects that reverberate throughout the forest. After packing up the formation disk, John once again began to walk further into the forest. Unlike the previous day, instead of staying parallel to the highway, John decided to stray a little further away from it, heading deeper into the Skycleave Mountains.
Half a day later, John entered a large clearing in the forest and suddenly stopped, quietly taking out his greatsword.
“It should be Crocodile Grey Scales. Looks like it's equivalent to a peak” Refinement Body cultivator John thought as he stared at the animal.
About a hundred meters away from John, the Gray-Scaled Crocodile was basking in the sun beside a large crystal-clear pond. The beast was ten feet long, and had razor-sharp teeth. It was known for its powerful tail attack, as well as its powerful and deadly bite.
“He should be stronger than the Ironhide Lizard I fought a while back” thought John while slowly approaching Crocodile. After creeping into the animal slowly, John paused for a few seconds before bursting into laughter in embarrassment.
“Hahaha, why am I so careful? I used this journey to strengthen myself. Even if I sneak on top of this beast and manage to kill it, I won't gain any combat experience. Every fight of mine must be on the edge.command me to advance as fast as I can “
The sudden sound of laughter and monologue made the crocodile alert. The crocodile roared furiously as he saw John walking towards him. It quickly shot towards John, arriving a second later. His head snapped loudly at John's waist.
Enraged by the surprise attack, the Grey Hawk Crocodile twisted its large body to the side and sent its huge tail whipping towards John.
“Blowout!”
His tail fell violently to the ground where John had just stood, leaving a small hole in the ground and making the ground fly in all directions.
“Wow, that tail has serious power. I should try my best to avoid it” John thought while dodging that tail attack. Using the opportunity that had just opened, John dashed forward and swung his greatsword with all his might.
“Abrow!”
The crocodile roared in pain as the sword sliced deeply into his back.
“The defense is quite tough. This attack will split the Earth Wolf into two” John thought as he quickly retreated, dodging the tail attack again.
After dodging the attack, John once again dashed forward, this time his sword pierced towards the beast. Despite trying to dodge the attack, the crocodile was late for a strand of hair because the sword was stuck into its handle.
Quickly pulling out his sword, John once again dashed back quickly as the crocodile tried to bite him in half.
“It's moving much slower now. The two blows so far appear to have dealt critical damage. It's time to put an end to this,” John said as he once again ran towards the beast. Just as he was about to land the final blow, Crocodile quickly turned around, sending his tail crashing into John.
“Gah!”
John barely raised his sword in time before he was sent flying backwards by the tail attack.
The crocodile runs towards John, hoping to get a fatal blow after his attack is successful. John lethargicly stood up as he tried to stabilize himself, blood flowing slightly from his lips.
John looked up and saw the crocodile galloping towards him. He quickly steadied his sword and prepared to receive his attack. Just as the crocodile was about to reach John, the crocodile collapsed, finally stopping right in front of John.
“Is it dead?”
John quickly backed away from the beast and watched it for a while before realizing that it was actually dead.
“It looks like my second attack must have hit his heart” thought John. “I'm very lucky. Had I not hit his heart, I would have been in serious danger.”
John slowly approached the crocodile before stabbing his sword directly into his head, confirming the killing. He stored the body in his storage ring, where he sat on the ground in pain.
“I was too confident at the end of the battle. Even injured animals are deadly. I need to remember it for future battles and never underestimate my enemies no matter how severe the situation they face.”
John took out one of the Life Mist healing pills he carried and put it in his mouth. He sat on the ground and focused on recovery, only standing up a few hours later.
“Let's continue. My first fight has taught me an incredible lesson. I know getting out of here is the right call” thought John while continuing to venture further into the woods.
