Chapter 103: 103
A few days later, John found himself just a few more steps away from reaching focus. However, the lightning in this part was so strong that John could barely survive, even with the Supreme Battle Art.
Due to the power of lightning, John was forced to once again use the Supreme Battle Art to withstand its destructive power, even if it meant developing the Heavenly Lightning Script more slowly. However he started to worry, as his blood essence reserve was already less than half of before he entered the trial.
‘If I cannot continue the next few steps immediately, I will perish. I have to push myself harder. ‘
Despite still using the Supreme Battle Art, John once again lowered his strength, allowing lightning to strike his body. The flesh chipped, exposing the muscles and bones underneath, but John gritted his teeth and continued to develop the Heavenly Lightning Script. Through his continued cultivation, John finally realized why his wounds healed so much faster than they should.
After softening his body and making a lightning mark, John could see that every time the lightning passed through the mark, the mark would slightly change the nature of the lightning. After passing through his body long enough, the once destructive lightning would have little healing properties.
Although this healing property was only good for repairing lightning-damaged parts, that was what allowed him to get to this point so quickly.
John endured this terrible training for as long as he could.
‘I can't last much longer. I need to give these last few steps fully and push with brute force. ‘
Although he knew it might not be the best idea, he had no other choice. His blood essence reserve faded, and after it was depleted, his Supreme Combat Art would disappear. Once that happened, he almost died, as he had no way to replenish that reserve in this field. Completing trials while at his peak strength was his only option.
While he had used the half-powered Supreme Battle Art to date, John had finally given up his maximum-powered battle status. A wild and cruel aura emanated from John.
“Now or not at all. Just a few more steps.”
John gritted his teeth and stepped forward with all his might. Using the Celestial Lightning Script helped lighten some of the burden on his body, but despite that the power of the lightning was almost more than he could handle. The flesh chipped away from the muscles and bones as John pushed forward with all his might. Blood flowed profusely from his body as he advanced forward with little regard for his safety.
Right now, John was only a yard away from the pedestal. Using the rest of his remaining strength, John took one last step forward and extended his hand towards the round object on the pedestal.
“Just ... little ... little ... again ...”
John grumbled despite gritting his teeth as his hand slowly but surely approached the object. As his final strength was about to leave him, John's fingertips touched the object. The destructive lightning that kept flowing suddenly stopped, and John fell to the ground, barely conscious.
Huh! Huh!
Breathing heavily and struggling for each breath, John did his best to raise his arm and put a healing pill into his mouth.
“With how damaged my body, it takes at least a week to heal completely.”
John's mind began to grow tired as he fell asleep in silence, completely exhausted from the ordeal he had just conquered.
…
“Nearly a hundred percent of my body now contains rune.”
After standing, John saw the object on the pedestal. During the trial, she was too busy with life to be able to see the object up close, but now that she was standing right in front of him, she was surprised to find that it was an egg. The egg was six inches tall, and had a scale-like pattern on the outside.
“Eggs? What kind of egg is this? This is the prize?”
John was quite disappointed in revealing what was on the pedestal. He had imagined it would be an incredible weapon or an incredible lightning-based opportunity, but it ended up being an egg.
Taking a closer look at the pedestal, John saw an extremely intricate formation surrounding the egg. The fluctuation of the formation made John shudder, as he realized the source of that terrifying lightning was the formation itself.
‘Well, if an egg is a gift for a terrible test, I'm sure it's pretty amazing. Come see.’
John reached out and went to get the egg. As soon as he touched the egg, John found himself appearing in a different place.
“What? What the hell just happened? Where am I?”
John looked around at this new place he found. A hint of red tinge hung in the sunless sky, and ferocious clouds churned overhead. John took a step forward and heard a loud noise under his feet.
“What is this? What is..?”
Upon closer inspection, he realized that he had stepped on the skeleton. Looking around, John noticed that he was standing on a small mountain made entirely of human remains. As far as the eye could see, he saw a mountain of corpses. A stream of blood flowed through the small mountain range of corpses, making the world look like an actual scene of hell. An extremely sinister aura of death and despair hung in the air.
“Where am I? What is this place?”
Even though John had challenged other nightmare places like the creepy rooms and gates in his palace realm, this was still very shocking. Had he not controlled his desires so angrily before, John was sure he would have gone mad.
“What should I do? How do I get out of here? One second I was in the courtroom, and now I'm here. Is it all a trap? But how does that make sense?”
John angrily thought of a solution to this difficulty.
The explosion!
The explosion!
John quickly took out his scythe and raised his head as he heard a loud voice echoing from a distance. The voice grew louder and louder, finally reaching a point that John could barely contain. Moments later, John opened his eyes wide as he saw a huge figure coming out from behind one of the mountains of corpses.
