Home For My Soul
28|Because of Curiousness

No Brother, not that annoying guy, they both make me hard. I had trouble concentrating on the lecture because of what he said in the corridor. Protecting me from myself. Why do they think I'm going to end my life just because I suffered a little?

So far, all my plans have gone smoothly. I can still go to college, my grades are perfect, and my work is pretty good. So, why do they think I need to be protected? Chika, Rahma, and Nisa won't bother me anymore after knowing my secret, so I'm safe.

“For example, Amarylis,” said the lecturer who was teaching. What was my name suddenly called? “You must not have guessed that he was a brilliant student. Because his appearance is deceiving, not only you, but me as well. Well, so is in—”

Ooo. He is setting me up as an example in the topic he is teaching. Just surprised. Okay. I have to concentrate. Get rid of everything that has nothing to do with today's course, including that annoying guy.

Unfortunately, I couldn't avoid him by lunchtime. He was already standing near the door of my lecture hall when I came out. Wanting to leave, he took my hand, not caring about the curious gazes of all the students in the corridor up to the parking lot.

“You said we were backstreet. In this case, it is no secret that his name is,” I said with a ketus.

“They are just second-guessing,” he said casually. “Gue won't announce to anyone about our relationship. Just relax. Don't you like all that attention?”

Maddened. How does he know what I like? Has he been watching me at school? Is that his goal to come to Medan and not introduce himself as Katelia's fiancee? Is he spying on me to judge whether I deserve to be his wife?

“True,” answered when I asked.

He chose a place to eat that was not crowded at lunchtime, so I took advantage of that atmosphere to discuss personal matters. I don't like to keep curiosity around for too long. So, I decided to discuss the thing that stuck in my heart.

“You must have concluded that Katelia was not fit to be your wife,” guess me. The intensity of our fights during school is proof that we have different principles. But not just him, I'm sure the young man from another good family will not like the future wife of the mongrel.

“True,” the answer is short.

“Then why are you approaching me now? You better use your time to find the right person,” I said in surprise. “You know for yourself, we won't be able to be together.”

“Gue curious.”

“What?”

He looked at my face. “Gue wants to know what it's like if we really get into a relationship before our engagement is officially announced.”

That afternoon, I came to his house to teach his sister. I didn't see him anywhere, only Aunt Ruth greeted me as usual. Matt's still late, but I'm not complaining about it. We can learn the rest of the time.

Theo joined us at dinner. I often wonder, did their father never eat with his family? I only met him when they invited me to eat on Christmas and New Year's Day. When Matt's birthday, he's gone.

Papa always tries to get home before dinner. So we can eat together. Don't they miss that guy every day just eating four of them with me? Ah, yes. He could be with them all day on the weekend. The day I didn't teach.

“Gue has business on Tuesdays through Thursdays, so we can't have lunch together. Watch out, do not get close to other men, including Richo,” he threatened.

He drove me home after dinner. I'm not looking for any more fuss and I'm going with Aunt Ruth. After all, I really skimmed because of this kindness of hers. I don't have to spend money on public transport.

“He's my brother,” I said, not bored - his boss gave the same answer.

“Lo forgot you're not in Katelia's body anymore?” he said seriously. “He's still a normal boy. What if he falls in love with you? You guys have no blood ties at all.”

I felt my stomach growling. Brother Jericho, the brother I've been with since I was a kid fell in love with me? The contents of my stomach seemed urgent to come out through my mouth. Seeing him as a man alone I can't, so I'm sure vice versa.

“It's disgusting,” my mumbling is horrified.

Come to think of it, what he said had a point as well. I'm not Katelia anymore, but Amarylis. You could consider me his sister now. Later together, maybe he will change his feelings. Hii …. Disgusting. I don't want that until it happens.

Just like he said, Theo wasn't waiting for me to have lunch together. I saw him coming and heading for the lecture hall, but that was it. When I came to their house, he didn't come to dinner with us. So I was taken home by their driver.

What did he do on those three days? Could he be like Nolan who accompanied Papa wherever he had time to take care of our company? Ah, could be. His father's headquarters is in the capital. Unlike Papa whose head office is in Medan.

The difference between Kak Nolan and Theo is only one, Brother is not betrothed to anyone. Maybe later if someone wants to strengthen cooperation, Papa will choose a wife for Brother. Because I'm not sure Papa will allow you to choose a wife carelessly.

“Hei, Amaryllis.” Chika and her two friends confronted me in the corridor. “Can we talk to you for a minute?”

I was happy to see that he no longer forced his will, but asked my opinion. I nodded and followed them towards the empty lecture hall. They were ready to ask me a lot of things.

“So, you're right Katelia,” Chika said as she watched me closely. Both of his friends did the same.

“Iya. Amaryllis can't possibly know all your secrets,” I said, explaining.

They nodded in understanding. “Now, everything is getting brighter,” said Rahma.

“Honey, you are very good at hiding your own secrets from us,” added Nisa.

“I have nothing bad to hide, Nisa,” I said casually. “I didn't take drugs, abort, or steal my parents' jewelry.” I called out their biggest secrets one by one.

My mischief during adolescence was only one, afflicted. But they cannot threaten me with that, because they are my accomplices. Destroying my reputation is tantamount to ruining their good name as well. After all, Katelia was dead, unable to be held responsible for her actions.

As Amarylis, I don't have anything bad they can use to threaten. I am their victim, it is precisely I who will be defended by people if they dare to intrude on my privacy. Regarding social status, everyone can definitely guess from the stuff in my body, I am a poor person.

“I did not abort my womb,” said Rahma, defending herself.

“Then why are you afraid? You'll be relaxed hearing our accusations if it's true that the fetus died itself. Rahma, I understand your fear. You are too young to raise a child. If you can give advice, you should start forgiving yourself.” I saw his eyes start to glaze over.

“Good, we are gathered not to discuss the past,” lerai Chika. “We don't have any questions, but we agree with you. We're no longer anyone. We will live our own lives, and will not bother you anymore.”

“I hope you won't hold a grudge against us,” said Nisa, adding. “What happened on the ship was purely an accident.” He's throttling.

I didn't respond to that part, because I didn't agree. I didn't want to let them go because I let them die, but instead accused me of killing Katelia. They don't need to know what I've prepared to make their lives difficult.

First of all, I had to graduate college with perfect grades and in a short time. I won't be rash to act quickly, but I'll let them off guard. If I don't do anything anytime soon, they'll think I've forgotten about them.

“Don't copy me. Hopefully that way, your life will be better than mine,” I said, reminding. “I'm sorry, because I must've done you guys a lot wrong. Goodbye to.”

I came out of the room first when they said nothing. My chest feels crowded being in a room with them for too long. They may not apologize for the incident on the ship and continue to convene. Justjust look. They'll pay for it.

“Amarily.” I stopped my steps hearing that voice. I think I was wrong. There are some who have different natures.

I turned around and saw Rahma staring at me with sparkling eyes. Chika and Nisa don't stand with him. “Ya?”

“Ng, I have something to say,” he said nervously. Is he going to say what I was hoping for?
