~Altheo~
“Papa promises to give me time to get to know Venny before we get officially engaged or get married.” I accidentally stayed at the dinner table when Mama and Venny's family sat on the sofa to plan the engagement.
“It's just ceremonial. Anyway, you guys must be married.” Papa looked at me seriously. “Do not think I will let you marry another woman.”
“Amarilis is not another woman. She's the woman I was going to marry from the beginning,” my mistake.
“He will only bring disgrace in our family. His parents are poor. They live in small houses and have no big business to work with. What do people say when you get married and all her family doesn't stop abusing our names?”
That sentence again, that sentence again. It was our own actions that made us talk of people, not because of Amarylis or her family. The last time it almost embarrassed us was Chika, nor was Amarilis or her family. Why did he forget so quickly?
“Papa think I don't know what Mama's doing behind my back? Had it not been for you, their bakery would have been huge and successful. There was still plenty of time for the Amaryllis family to climb the higher social ladder. So, we can be equal later.
“Tega once you have people hack their savings and take all their savings. I'm ashamed, Pa. For the sake of the woman who could only spend her parents' money, Papa and Mama had the heart to get rid of Amaryllis in a dirty way.
“Where is their money Papa throwing away? To sea? I know Papa didn't take it. Or Papa gave it all to the hacker? That's their hard-earned money, Pa, not from begging. It's no different than the billions Papa makes every day from our family business.”
“You praised her so highly,” sela Papa, “when she was just a woman who was willing to sell herself for money. What does it mean that you live on the same roof if not for fun? Chika and Venny are more honorable than him. At least, they wait until marriage.”
“So, Papa doesn't understand yet, huh?” I shook my head slowly. “Gue paid for the tuition and all his needs there to replace the money Papa stole. That's how a child makes amends for his parents. Come back, Pa, be the Papa I used to know.”
I didn't know where we were, but the view from outside the window showed I was in America. Was that a conversation between me and Papa when the accident had not happened? I can't guess it, because all those memories always come randomly.
“What is this?” ask Antonio. Again the darkness was replaced with a new sight I did not recognize. I was in a wooden house. From the cold temperatures, this is not in Indonesia.
“Schedule what I have to do in the next year,” I said proudly.
“You're young already using alarms for activities your assistant can remind you of? Are you that poor?” taunting the old man.
“You poor, why pretend rich?” my reply. “Ayo, fast. What do I have to do so we can get married there? Are all these files enough to register?”
Oh. So, this is the moment when me and that guy were planning our wedding in Las Vegas. It's worth it that he wasn't surprised when I mentioned it. He was just shocked when I called after so long there was no news. I didn't think there was anyone better than my parents.
He even deployed his men to outwit Papa's mercenaries. They lost track of us on the way to the airport. When they found out our destination, Amarylis and I were officially married. So, they can't do anything anymore.
“Gue loves lo, Kat.” I stroked the cheek of a woman whose face was vague. “Gue seriously. Don't get close to other men.”
“I also love you,” reply that woman who slowly more clearly visible. Amaryllis. “Awas, if you are close to another woman.”
I could feel my chest hurt once I let go of her hand. Is this the time I returned to Indonesia before the accident? Kat. Who's Kat? It's a mystery I can't understand. I should've asked him everything, not harbored like this.
That terrible headache made me open my eyes. My surroundings were dim, but I could see well. The curtains on the window are left open so that light from outside enters the room. The nurse has injected drugs through infusion, why does the pain still feel?
I checked the thing on the nightstand and found a cure. I read the packaging and found a board of painkillers. I immediately took one and drank it. Fortunately, there was a glass of water ready to drink.
The first thing I did when we got to the room and Amarylis sulked was to call my doctor. He threw away all my worries, so I could breathe with relief. I couldn't discuss my situation with the doctor at the hospital, because he hadn't been taking care of me since I had an accident.
Since my wife is still angry, then there is only one way to persuade her. “Gue remember everything.”
He just kept quiet. Then his mouth opened and his eyes were round. “A-what did you say?”
“Remember I'm back,”. “Gue deliberately does not wake up so that the dream does not stop coming. Not a dream, but a memory of my past. There's one thing about you that confuses me so I always have a heavy headache. It's really a miracle.”
“You mean, Katelia?” tanyakanya. I'm nodding. “If I were to remain Katelia, I would never be a mother. Amarylis has given me that chance.”
I framed his face with both hands. “Why do you talk so?”
“Katelia will not be able to have children because of her body condition. That's why our engagement wasn't announced by my parents. Father and Mother do not want a scandal when ending our arranged marriage.” He smiled sadly. “It also makes them not forbid me to bully people.”
“Forget it. When my memory returns, there are some things that I hope will never come again. The past is behind us. You're pregnant and we're gonna be parents soon. Better yet, that's what we focus on.” I caressed her cheek.
“And also, you've healed.” He smiled happily. “Oh, God. You're cured!” He pulled my hand and ran out of the room.
“Amarilis, what are you doing? Hey, you can't run around like this!” I tried to keep him from running too fast, but also worried that he would stumble.
“Nak, what are you doing!?” peekik Mommy panicked. He walked up the stairs, followed by a waiter carrying trays.
“Mother! There is good news!” amarilis cried to her mother. “Theo can remember everything! He's healed! Go, hurry! We should tell Father and Brother, then have lunch together to celebrate. Call Papa and Mama. Ah, no, no. Store must have guard.”
Mommy and I exchanged glances, then sighed in relief. At least he doesn't run anymore. We listened to him say all his requests while enjoying a snack by noon. He ate so voraciously and I was no longer surprised to see the size of his portion.
We had dinner together at the Wibowo Family's hotel restaurant. I purposely prepared a room for all of us. The show was not just for me, but also Amarylis who was pregnant. I'm glad they all wish us all the best.
A few minutes after eating, I took the medicine. Feeling Amaryllis watching, I turned my head. He looked at me questioningly, but said nothing. He looked back at the Mother who was talking, then responded.
“I don't understand,” he said, as we sat together on the bed. He put his phone on the nightstand, then turned to look at me.
“Unable to understand what?” I put my phone on the nightstand.
“You were so adamant about not taking medicine, withstanding your own headaches, that you drank without me telling you.” He shakes not understanding. “What are you doing?”
“Lo really do not know why I do not take medicine?” He's back to shakes. “Gue willingly endure the pain, you do not understand the reason what?”
He growled in annoyance. “I don't like curiosity. Can't you just answer my question?”
