Home For My Soul
204|One Second

Since my whole body was alert earlier, I immediately hugged Theo's mother and shifted towards her. My mother stood behind Mama Theo when she heard the sound coming, so I was sure I had chosen the right side.

“Aarghh!!” A woman screamed so close next to me, before her body slid down the stairs. Powerlessly, he continued to roll all the way downstairs.

The escalator towards the lower floor was indeed deserted. Me and Mama Theo were in the front row, while the person who preceded us had just arrived at the destination floor. So, nothing could help or hinder the woman's body moving down.

“There are people falling!” After those who witnessed the incident recovered from the shock, the situation around us was crowded with hysterical cries.

“Cap up the ambulance phone!” order one of the mall visitors heading upstairs.

“Hey, don't move him! Who knows if there's a broken bone!” yell at the other.

Me and Mama Theo stepped over the body, then I turned around and extended my hand to my mama. As soon as our hands touched, I felt his hands tremble. I took him away from the crowd of people who were curious about the state of the woman.

Once we were in a safe place, I immediately hugged her. It turned out that his body was shaking violently as well. He must have been afraid something bad was going to happen to me. Yeah, God. Had my mama not shouted, warned me, something bad would have happened.

“It's okay, Ma.” I rubbed his back. “I'm fine. Mama don't worry. Look, I hugged Mama and was fine. The little one is also safe.”

“Iya, Sapphira. Our daughters and grandchildren are fine.” Mama Theo helped me calm Mama down.

“Iya,” isak Mama. “Oh, God. I was so scared just now. In-he suddenly just came down one rung of stairs and extended his hand. Un-luckily I immediately recognized his face.” My mother hugged me tightly. “What's your fault, son? Why does he hate you so much?”

Mama crying makes me sad. But I did not forbid or force my mother to stop crying. He needed this to calm himself. I looked at Mama Theo. He understood and pulled out his phone.

Not long after, medics came and immediately took over checking on the woman's condition. Officers have intervened to keep the crowd away so that the victims are not deprived of oxygen. Escalators were also closed off from both lanes so no one else was using them.

We didn't come any closer, nor did we want to interfere. They were able to identify her later when her husband followed them to the hospital. We are careful to keep our distance so as not to be accused of having done evil to the woman.

My guards did not hide themselves anymore and escorted us home. My mother and I remained silent throughout the journey. I still believe I can't believe what just happened. One second too late, I almost lost my baby.

Theo, Papa, and Antonio were already standing on the terrace welcoming our arrival. As soon as the car stopped, my husband opened the door and helped me out. Without warning, he hugged me tightly. Finally, I no longer held back my emotions and cried in his arms.

Hunch's right. Chika is not satisfied to humiliate me in the media. His plan failed miserably, he was still looking for an opportunity to hurt me. When I first felt that unpleasant thing, I should have started to be careful. Instincts never lie.

After he repeatedly hurt me by having his bodyguards gang up on me during college, I still can't believe he's going to do this. He even did it in front of many people, with dozens of eyewitnesses. Pushing me on the escalator never crossed my mind.

“I'm really surprised.” My mother-in-law looked at me with eyes of disbelief. “How can he move so swiftly that he is perfectly evaded from the impulse of the woman? He even had time to help me see the end of the escalator.”

“Also still had time to help me who is behind you,” timpal my mama. “If it wasn't for his help, I would definitely not be able to move my feet off that ladder.”

We sat together in the family room. The waiter served us warm drinks and snacks on the table. After a moment of silence, then mama Theo who opened the conversation. I was calm to see that the two of them had recovered from the shock.

I glanced at Daisy. “When Theo was in Indonesia to attend Matt's graduation, I had no activity in the apartment. So, I asked Daisy to teach me some self-defense techniques. He gave a bonus by sharpening my sense of caution.

“I've been feeling bad since we got out of that baby supply store. I should have believed in my instincts, but I ignored them. Then the feeling appeared again on the escalator. Justright. Mama yells warning me so I have time to dodge.”

“Gue not angry.” Theo rubbed my head. “How to prove effective. If you were injured earlier, then you would get a heavy punishment.”

“Theo,” reprimand his mother.

“Mama can't interfere,” Theo said seriously. “It's an affair between me and my wife. He needs to know the consequences of his actions today if luck does not stand with us. What happened was almost, Ma. Seconds count. Mama just check in online media.”

“What do you mean?” my question does not understand.

“The incident you experienced was accidentally recorded using a mobile phone camera by one of the visitors. You know for yourself people today like to seek attention. The video was viewed by a million people in just over an hour. News about lo and Chika viral.”

“Oh, Lord.” I closed my mouth with my hand.

“She can no longer work. Too many witnesses and evidence that he intends to hurt you. I asked our lawyer to take care of this matter. It is time to put an end to the unfinished dispute between you. Norman fool was indeed unable to manage his wife.” Theo gritted his teeth, restraining his anger.

My husband and father-in-law went back to the office so Matt wouldn't bother taking care of his own work. I stayed with both my mother and best friend in the living room. As soon as I checked the phone, I found there were so many missed calls and messages in the inbox.

I started by calling Mommy. He sobbed while apologizing for not being around me at this moment. And I'm fine. If she were here, Mother would not be able to prevent this event from happening. Meghan happened to be nearby, so we could make a video call together.

Brother Jericho is the most annoying. He was angry without giving me a chance to explain. Though I did not provoke Chika at all to do that. She was doing a photo shoot outside the city, so she couldn't come to see me at home.

After giving an explanation to Edrick and Sonata, then I can breathe a little relieved. I opened the browser on the phone and Theo was right. News about me and Chika went viral. I easily found the video of the incident.

Intrigued by the results, I chose one video and played it. It was quite a distance away, but I could see what my mama said was true. Chika originally stood on the steps one level above Mama. Then he suddenly took one step down, there were a few seconds he looked silent before extending his hand. I dodged him and he couldn't stop his body.

I don't want to look further, worried about being carried away by dreams. But I'm sure the fall must have been terrible and I can't imagine the pain. I'm looking for news about his latest condition. Then find a new media that shows it.

According to provisional allegations, he suffered broken bones of his hand and foot. His head was fine, as he protected that part of his body as it fell. Mercifully. At least, he won't be deformed. Even if I want him to suffer, I don't want to go that far. He deserves a second chance.

“Honey, look at this!” My mother called while pointing at the television. “Isn't she the woman Delilah scolded on your birthday? Why would he do such a stupid thing?”
