“You must have heard a lot about me.” He smiled broadly. “I know everything, Kat. And I can also do everything.”
He must be talking about the gossip that group friends often discuss. Witchcraft. I've heard that word many times. Too often that I'm sick of it. People were mocking that Theo liked me because I was wearing a hand-to-hand. What does this man want from me?
“Then what? I should be afraid of you?” I grunt softly.
“It's best so. Because your fate is in my hands, KAT.” He purposely gave intonation to my nickname. Maybe he thought I'd be afraid of him if he spread that secret.
Nora is not in a place where she usually waits for her next course. Seeing that, I was forced to be in the study room, because the distance was closest to the campus. I was really upset by the two things that just happened. I didn't get my grades and secrets exposed.
I only bought bread, because I had no appetite for a heavy menu. The next lecture hour came a long time ago until I lost my temper. As if knowing I was going to talk to her, Nora came along with our lecturer. So I know, he deliberately didn't put my name.
Even though I knew that no one in the world could be completely trusted, my chest still ached to realize that I had chosen the wrong friend. I don't know what happened so he did this to me. Since we were friends, we were fine.
“Nora.” I held his arm, seeing him intending to run away as soon as the lecturer came out. “We need to talk.”
“Can we talk about tomorrow? My brother came and he was already waiting in front.” He put on a face. “Quiet. I'll give you your regards for him.”
“Why did you do that?” ask me without further ado.
“Do what?” He put on an innocent face.
“You did not attach my name to our duty.” I clenched my hand to see she was still able to perform. Does he think this lecture is just a joke?
“Nora? You didn't make the name Amarylis in our assignment?” asked Mike who was standing by my side. “Revisions should only be done no later than three days after the submission of tasks.”
Nora laughed, feeling bad. “You don't talk like that. How could I not have put our names on the six of us. Amaryllis name is on that task.”
“Professor called me to ask for my assignment. I've seen it myself, too. There are only five names on the cover of our paper,” I said in a vibrating voice.
“Yes, geez. You could be threatened to fail this semester,” exclaimed Mike surprised.
I closed my eyes for a moment while sighing deeply. “Mike, go. I'm being serious and every time you open your mouth, I'm getting pissed.”
“My mouth can do things you never imagined, Amaryllis. And you will not be upset again after feeling it just once,” rayunya.
Men are not sane. Did he see me being serious? It didn't seem like a good time to talk, so I relented by putting it off. Even though I can't save my grades, at least I want to know why he's doing this.
I was pedaling my bike when something reminded me of that important event. I pulled over and stopped for a moment. That's her! I didn't see it wrong. Nora likes Theo. The events in the kitchen as his mother and Theo prepare to cook the turkey are the beginning.
A few times I saw it the next day, I didn't touch it. That must be why he did this to me. Robert made sense. She must have known about Katelia from Nora. Theo used to call me by that name when he was alone in the room.
No. gabe. Not Katelia. The pretentious guy knows everything it's calling me Kat. He did not know the full name of the nickname. Huh. Did the two of them work together to bring me down? Not to mention that Mike very much tried to attract my attention by defending me.
If Nora likes Theo, why would she do this to me? He can express love even though Theo will definitely refuse. Then what was the reason Robert wanted to hurt me too? Time just because my opinion in the discussion is more heard? Justjust look. They don't know who I am. Where there are snarls can be obstructed.
“No.” Recalling our promise, I immediately rectified, “I mean, there are problems on campus, but all I can handle.”
“Speaking not half-and-half, Kat. Lo know I can find out everything from Daisy.” He looked at me seriously. “But I want to hear everything from lo.”
“I was called a lecturer to face because I did not do group tasks,” I.
“How can? Lo discussion with them, ‘kan? As far as I know, you have a discussion group for college affairs,” he said confused.
I took a long breath. “Nora deliberately did not put my name on our paper.”
“Nora? He's your friend who invited us to his house on Thanksgiving. That nora?”
I nodded slowly. “I didn't believe it at first either until I heard it myself. The lecturer said, he had asked Nora to make sure everything was complete before she accepted our assignment.”
“Then the lecturer said what?”
“I didn't get a value for that task.”
If I had a C or a D, it would still be much better than nothing. I don't know how my donors will respond, but if my grades this semester drop dramatically, I'm threatened not to get a scholarship for the next semester. Where can I get money for the next two semesters? Not to mention the cost of living here is not cheap.
I could have asked Father and Mother for help. The thing is, I was already determined to be independent and not to trouble them. Plus, I'm innocent. I really got into discussions and did assignments with them. Just because I trusted a friend too much, I was threatened with not being able to complete my studies.
“Lo just relax.” Theo rubbed my hair, then smiled gently. “Let me take care of. No one can mess with my future wife. Daisy can help.”
“How does your bodyguard help?” I felt my eyes heat up.
“You guys discussed in the campus environment, ‘kan?” I nodded slowly. “Then he can help. I know you're worried about your grades falling and the scholarship stalling. That won't happen.”
“Why are you so sure?” I wiped away the tears that were dripping down my cheek.
“Because your grades will be fine.”
Although I could not concentrate, I forced myself to study before going to bed. Every single thing I learned in college I re-read in order to better understand it. Then I noted down each of his important points in a special book containing a summary. I'll need it when I face the semester exam.
Theo cooked a full breakfast in the morning. There are scrambled eggs, toast, ham, and what I like most, bacon. I know he deliberately took pains to comfort me. He's succeeding. I ate voraciously and left for college on a full stomach.
I pedaled my bike through the path to campus with other students living near our apartment neighborhood. The atmosphere of the morning was more beautiful than usual. Maybe because I already thought of last night's troubles as a last breeze. I will find a way so that my academic grades in this semester do not fall drastically.
Nora was standing by the gate, waiting for something. I just went through it. But when we got close, he paddled his bike by my side. “We need to talk,” persuade him.
“I spoke yesterday and you prefer to avoid.” I-i refused.
“Conditions are not possible, Amarylis. We need to talk. I'll explain everything,” he said, welding. My heart struggles between asserting or denying his request. Am I strong enough to trust him again?
