I held Amaryllis' hand on the table. “We stick to the original plan. I went back with Amarilis to Indonesia. Once I fully recover, I will return to work. Anyway, that was our plan before the accident hit me, ‘kan?
“Gue returned to Indonesia after three years in the country and continued my supervision of this restaurant from there. Why suddenly change? Papa think I don't know you guys intend to make me forget to take care of our marriage certificate in the country?” I looked at them carefully.
Mama put the spoon hard on the plate. Finally, he did not pretend anymore. “I will never accept that woman to be my daughter-in-law. Do you think our family's reputation was built in one night? I won't let you ruin our good name.”
“Where is Venny and her family now?” askaku, alluding to the name of the woman of his choice. “That's what you call a future son-in-law who keeps our family's reputation?”
The woman closed her lips. Of course he can't answer. The family who had long been his best friend left him when trouble came. The woman he thought was the perfect wife for me was not ready to be with me in pain.
“Amarilis didn't think twice when I dragged her to elope in Las Vegas. Even though we don't wear expensive clothes, no family, and romantic events that I'm sure she's always dreamed of, she wants to be my wife.
“Venny who has received special treatment, even given a magnificent engagement event, does not hesitate to leave me weak. Amaryllis remained by my side as I grimaced in pain. He even gave himself up for me to use as my pain reliever.
“This woman is the only one who wants to be next to me when I can't promise anything for our future. I could have been amnesiac forever, but he didn't run away from me. All I've done since I was in this place is hurt, exploit, and rule him as I please. Did you see him run away from me?
“He even just saved the lives of you two from the target of Clara's anger. Without him, maybe you're already lying in a hospital ward or worst of all, going home in a crate to the homeland. Soon you forget his service. Has reputation turned your conscience off?”
Feeling the tight grip of Amaryllis' hand, I refrained from continuing my sentence. I could feel her hands trembling, so I followed her silent request. I just wanted to defend him in front of my parents, not torture him anymore.
Mom and Dad didn't talk, just sat quietly. I looked towards Matt. He shrugged his shoulders, saying nothing. I don't know what Theo's facing his parents like, but I'm not the old one. I won't just be told to submit to doing the wrong thing. I've married Amarylis, so I won't be silent until our marriage is legal.
Since there was nothing else they said, I said goodbye. Matt is coming with us. Only Papa replied to my words, while Mama still kept her mouth shut. I don't care if he's hurt. It was his own fault.
“Ng, I have to go to campus.” Amaryllis held my hand as we were about to enter the car.
“Isn't your business there done? You already got your diploma, ‘kan?” many wonder.
“I should have seen my dentist last week. My tooth retainer is done, so I can take this wire off,” he replied.
“Ooo-be. Other expensive costs that I have to spend when I do not remember promising this to lo,” tejekku.
His face was red. “I go alone!” annoyed.
I hugged him from behind, holding him back from not getting away from me. “Why are you so angry?”
“You want to make out there or get in the car? A week for a child is not enough? Until when do I have to see you guys can't be away from each other?” lamented Matt.
“Makanya, married,” teaseku.
We headed to college and I took advantage of the opportunity to get around. Doctors said they would take a while to take care of Amaryllis. Matt's coming with me. I can't remember anything about the building or every road we walked.
I deliberately avoided the inside of my campus building so as not to meet with the lecturers there. They would be offended or at worst, pity me if they knew my condition now. I don't need pity from anyone.
“Lo sure don't want to stay here for a moment, stay away from our order?” matt asked as we drank coffee in one of the canteens.
“Gue worries Amaryllis is pregnant. We're gonna need a lot of people's help, because I don't understand that. You need to read a lot of books and consult a doctor. Pregnant woman is terrible.” I looked at him seriously. Matt's face paled.
“Facing Mama who came by the moon alone is troublesome. I can't imagine Papa's experience when Mama was pregnant.” He shuddered slowly. “Why do you rush to have children? Don't want a honeymoon first? He said, sleeping with my sister is good.”
“I want to finish my responsibilities to our parents, just focus on preparing myself to return to work. After all, Amaryllis had so many plans that Theo had gone crazy about. His reminders drive me crazy.” I massaged the top of my nose.
“Lo is very sure, yes, I will recover.” I shakes not understanding.
He just laughed. “Lo is ready if Papa and Mama eject you and appoint me as a replacement?” He smiled meaningfully.
“Lo sure I'll just give up my rights?” reply, accept the challenge.
He smiled with satisfaction. “See? I really like lo who is now.” See, right?
Daisy called my bodyguard to let Amarlis know she was ready. I bought coffee and snacks for my wife, then followed them to the car. Someday, I will return to this campus, if circumstances permit. I want to give souvenirs typical of Indonesia to the lecturers who have guided me.
Amaryllis looks even more beautiful without a fence on her teeth. It looks like the doctor gave the treatment also after years of iron-plated teeth. It would take them a long time to remove the wire. The device he said was finished it only needs to be used during sleep.
He became more fun without worrying about the thing that had been removed it would hurt both of us. I tested it that night, too. He initially refused, as he was still angry with what I had done this morning. But as soon as we got carried away, he returned my love. After days of doing this with him, how could I let him go?
“You don't have confidence first,” he said, as I had just laid my body on his side.
“Gue thought you were asleep.” I pulled a blanket over both of us.
“I could have left you someday.”
“Gue just connect lo again,” reply me casually. “Lo won't be able to escape while I'm sleeping. Daisy knows her job. You can't leave without my permission. So, please try.”
“I'm not your prisoner, Theo,” protested.
“For this one year, you can't go anywhere. I have to take care of you and our future son until he is born safely. Trust me, Amarylis. It's the best. After that, you are free to do anything, including replying to the actions of the three evil women.”
He looked over with round eyes. “You know about my revenge plan?”
“Gue already said, Theo recorded everything in his phone reminder.”
The next day, we finished packing our last item and left one large cardboard box with two large suitcases filled with our personal belongings to take to Indonesia. Matt just brought his little suitcase. Other items are taken care of by Amarylis friends to be donated.
We stayed at Antonio's house the last day we were in America. The kind old man treated us like his own children. We were spoiled for good food and a comfortable room. He invited Amaryllis's best friend to participate, but the woman refused.
She must have felt bad after seeing her own brother had threatened us in front of her. We don't even dispute that. His brother's crime, it wasn't his fault. Moreover, he has proven to be very kind to my wife.
“Don't forget to come to Indonesia. I will show you many beautiful places,” Amarylis said as we parted ways with Antonio.
“I'll come. You guys just set up your time.” The man rubbed my wife's hair. “One more time, may you like the wedding gift for you from me.”
“Reward again? Antonio, you've given too much to us,” protest Amarylis.
“Nothing is too much for a friend. Go awayl. Don't miss your flight.” He glanced at me to get my wife in the car. He and his loyal dog drove us off the porch.
Matt checked in at the airport, and Amarylis and I waited not far behind him. We went to the immigration department to stamp our passports. Matt and I finished first. Amaryllis who had advanced first from us was still at the counter.
I don't feel good seeing another officer coming to the counter. Amaryllis turned towards me with a panicked face. I immediately stepped closer to him. “Why was my wife checked so long? Is there a problem, Sir?” ask the officer who served him.
“Inter, yes, Mr.” The man put down his phone. “Mother Josepha needs to come with us to the office for further inspection. There's a problem with his passport.”
