Chapters 1910.
"What should we do now, Mr. Crawford.?" Ask Rey.
Gazing straight at Yann, Gerald only narrowed his eyes before shaking his head. He knew for a fact that Yann had lost his purpose. Greed is really a scary thing.
Even so, he wanted to try one last time. Staring at Yann, Gerald's tone sounded a lot more furious as he growled,
"...For the last time. Are you going with us, or not?"
"I'm not leaving!"
Raung Yann, instantly caused Gerald's anger to peak.
That was the last straw. Not wanting anything to do with Yann anymore, Gerald then started walking out of the treasure room.
However, as soon as Gerald came out, all the candles in the room were instantly extinguished. After which, the room began to shine in a terrifying green light!
'This is no good!'
Gerald thought inwardly as he quickly walked out of the room - along with Rey - before yelling,
"Yan! Comehere! Hurry along!"
Of course, Yann's fate was determined once she chose not to obey Gerald.
Unable to react in time, Yann's eyes could only widen as he saw all the gold around him turn into a green liquid that quickly enveloped him!
He did not even have time to shout before the liquid completely melted him to the bone.
It is understandable that Gerald and Rey were stunned to witness all this. To think that such a punishment had been set for those who had been defeated by greed.
After all, Yann was now dead and there was nothing Gerald could do. With that in mind, - and the fact that the object was slowly approaching - Gerald quickly grabbed Rey's arm before shouting out,
"Come, leave this place!"
Rey would not say no to it, and the two darted back into the hallway from before.
Shortly after, they heard the familiar sound of rock scraping on the ground coming from behind them, and it was quite clear that the door had closed again. Thank goodness they left the room quickly.
Taking a short break by sitting in the hallway, Rey inevitably looked at Gerald with eyes full of sadness as he said,
"...Mr. Crawford. Brother Yann, he's..."
While she knows that Rey is terrified, as this may be the first time she has seen someone die in such a horrible way, Gerald simply chooses to answer in a calm tone, saying,
"He's dead."
Of course, even Gerald was sad about Yann's death, but if the man wasn't consumed by greed, he wouldn't have to die so horribly. With that in mind, Yann's end was indeed deserved.
After being a little calmer, Rey couldn't help but ask,
"Even what is green liquid ."
"I'm not sure, but it may resemble sulfuric acid because it corrodes well."
Gerald replied that he could only sigh, still a little disappointed that Yann had to die.
After all, he saw the man as a good friend. Still, Gerald finds solace in the fact that Rey isn't like Yann.
Given that, Gerald then patted Rey on the shoulder before praising her,
"...Anyway, I'm glad you're not consumed by greed either, Rey. I'm proud of you!"
Despite the praise, Rey was too sad to feel happy about it. After all, they had just lost a teammate.
Chapters 1911.
Understanding that staying here longer would only cause more trouble, after resting for a while, Gerald got up before saying,
"Well, let's leave this place while we can!"
With that, the two walked back to the sealed main entrance. Once they were there, they quickly realized that there was no mechanism to open the door at all, at least nothing they could easily see.
Understanding the fact that they didn't even know where to start looking for the mechanism, Rey could only stare at the huge stone wall - which blocked the cave entrance - before staring at Gerald and asking, Reye could only stare at the large stone wall,
"...How do we have to go?, Mr. Crawford..?"
"...Well, since there are mechanisms outside that allow us to enter, I'm sure there are other mechanisms here that allow us to leave!
Since the Yin and Yang side - based on the layout of the Eight Diagrams - is the key to opening the door from the outside, I assume that the mechanism here can be found the opposite of that!"
Gerald replied after thinking for a while.
After that, Gerald started searching in the opposite area. And after fumbling through the stone walls, he managed to find a mechanism!
Immediately turning it around, Gerald and Rey's eyes rapidly widened as the floor below them began to collapse! To think that the mechanism would cause this!
After all, unable to react in time, the two soon found themselves gliding down a sloping path!
While Rey screamed with all her might, Gerald himself could only think of how messed up he was this time. As it turned out, things were not as easy as he expected.
Whatever the case, it was quite a while before the slope suddenly ended, making the two shoot and land on a soft pile of soil.
Groaning as they woke up, the two quickly realized that they seemed to have entered another cave.
Aside from the fact that there is a pond inside the cave - which has water so clear that one can easily see the bottom -, there is not much more to look at at first glance.
"Cr*p. Where are we, Mr. Crawford.?"
Rey asked while cleaning the dirt off her clothes.
Just shaking his head in response, Gerald and Rey then began investigating the surrounding area, hoping to find a way out.
Unfortunately for them, no matter how hard they searched, there seemed to be none. They're trapped once again.
"Well, that's good! I think we're stuck here!"
Rey said while sitting down while sighing heavily.
Slightly frowning, Gerald then took out a map of Tye before taking a good look at it. There must be something wrong here. Thank God, Gerald was right.
Now that he had managed to find something significant, Gerald quickly called out, saying,
"Rey!"
Hurriedly standing up, Rey then raised a slight eyebrow as she looked at the map while asking,
"...Yes, Mr Crawford? Did you find anything?"
"Indeed! See the Officer Observation Deck where do we start? While we have changed direction several times, I retrace our steps and here! See the other cave on the map? I have a feeling that we are currently here! And the cave clearly showed an entrance!"
Gerald exclaimed, pointing at the map all the time.
While Rey really felt that Gerald's words made sense, she couldn't help but say,
"It's okay and everything. But we've done a thorough search of this place! Forget about the exit, we haven't even managed to find something that resembles a door opening mechanism!"
Although Gerald saw where Rey came from, he was sure there must be a way out. After all, there was a high chance that they were not looking in the right direction. With that in mind, Gerald simply replied,
"I'm sure the exit will appear soon! Stay calm, we'll definitely find a way to go!"
Chapters 1912.
After that, Gerald got up and started fumbling against the wall again. Because its stone walls were uneven, it made the search mechanism - potentially leading to an exit - even more difficult than usual.
After all, after hearing what Gerald said, Rey was motivated to give it another try.
With that, she begins to do the same as Gerald, hoping to finally find a way to get out of this place.
While continuing to feel the wall, Gerald's ears goosebumps as 'click' sounds. With eyes wide at a rapid pace, Gerald could only stare as the stone slab - where his foot was currently - began to sink.
Raising his legs, he saw the slab continue to sink deeper and deeper... And by the time it stopped, a portion of the stone wall had shifted open!
Both surprised and delighted, Rey inevitably turns to look at Gerald while calling out,
"Mrs. Crawford.!"
Although Gerald himself was shocked by all of this, he quickly snapped and walked through the newly formed entrance.
To the dismay of the two, they quickly realized that all the entrances leading up were descending ladders that looked almost bottomless!
The fact that it's pitch black down there certainly doesn't help.
"...Where do you think this leads, Mr. Crawford.?"
Rey muttered as she turned to look at Gerald.
"There's only one way to find out!"
Gerald replied, prompting the two to start going down the stairs.
As they walked, a kind of fog started to appear and the lower they went, the denser it became.
About half an hour later Rey couldn't help but scream,
"...The stairs are endless, Mr. Crawford! We had been walking for almost thirty minutes now but were finally nowhere to be seen!"
Gerald himself began to think this was all strange. This place is really too confusing. After thinking for a while, Gerald finally sighed before saying,
"...Alright, since it looks like we got nothing, let's go back to where we came from!"
With that, the two began to climb the stairs. However, half an hour later, the two young men finally realized how serious their current dilemma was.
After all, no matter how long they walked, the area where they started could not be found!
"Seriously?! We should have reached the entry point by now! Where the hell is that?!"
Rey's yelling was getting depressed.
Thinking that even their return route would change!
"It is very important to remain calm during such situations! With that, let's think about it!"
Gerald replied as he began racking his brain.
Taking a closer look at the stairs, Gerald noticed that the steps appeared to be numbered. Does the number exist for a reason...?
After thinking about it for a while, Gerald's eyes suddenly widened as he exclaimed,
"I understand!"
Surprised by Gerald's sudden cry, Rey quickly shook her head before asking,
"understand? You already know how we can get out of this place, Mr. Crawford?"
"Indeed! Basically, we have been stuck by the Eight Diagram puzzle ever since we set foot in this place! If my guess is correct, to get out of this circle, we must solve the puzzle of the Eight Diagrams of the ladder! If you look closely, you can see the numbers on the steps, right? I assume that by utilizing the Eight Diagram diagrams on them, we can finally escape!" Gerald.
Regardless of the explanation, Rey wasn't very familiar with The Eight Diagram, so very little of what Gerald had just said made sense to her.
Seeing that his point was not conveyed, Gerald decided to try his theory alone.
