Ch. 39 – The Safe and Regretful

Basalt only stopped practicing after some time had passed, then walked into the forest again to find his dinner.

Leinn also pulled out three more bags of meat for Aura, Rufus and himself.

Aura began to be curious about the amount of food Leinn was carrying in her big bag.

“Om nom”

They began to eat again and Basalt joined in carrying several large apples in his hand, which had a diameter of at least 30 centimeters.

One of the other main effects of the Compress was to reduce the body's energy usage for the giant Beast that used it, but Basalt looked indifferent and ate dozens of the fruit in one meal.

It seems that the only effect of Compress on the Gorilla is to allow itself to eat more of the same amount of food.

The aura beside him realized the thing that Leinn was still wearing.

“By the way, Leinn..”.

“Hm?”

Leinn saw Aura pointing at her hand arm.

“Until when do you want to wear that thing?”

The compress is still tied there, and so are his left arm and both legs.

Aura continued eating after hearing that answer, already stopping feeling strange when she saw Leinn's behavior like that.

The sun was almost setting when they finished eating.

Leinn noticed a group that had just come out of the forest and were walking towards the camp, four teenagers who were walking behind one young man wearing a watchman's clothes.

“Haha!”

Leinn jumped to his feet and started walking towards the group, making the bored Basalt beside him stand up and catch up with him.

Clear suddenly jumped onto Basalt's back, planning to come with them as well.

Aura only saw the man and the gorilla walking towards the new group, then continued to stroke Rufus' extremely fine fur on his lap.

After some time had passed, the two groups had finally gotten quite close to each other.

“Hm?”

The watchman in front noticed someone walking towards them and the afternoon light still illuminating the meadow allowed himself to see who it was.

A wide smile appeared on his face and he started waving his hands.

“Heeey!”

The four teenagers behind him were shocked for a moment to see the behavior of their supervisor.

They stopped their steps at the same time.

Leinn raised his right hand to return the greetings of the supervisor in front of him, Kurt Lannister.

“Yo!”

Kurt looks very happy to see him again, but the teenager behind him shows a different reaction.

The two people looked at him confusedly for not recognizing who the young man in shabby clothes in front of them was greeting their supervisor like that, while the other two had already taken two steps back with their entire bodies already shaking strongly.

Leinn turned his head and looked at the two people who stepped back, showing a wide smile.

“Hai~”

The two of them immediately fell to their feet, making the other two start to stand by after seeing the strange reaction of their team.

Kurt laughed awkwardly and blocked Leinn's view of them. It seemed like he had already heard what had happened to the two frightened youths.

“Im sorry they. After all it was their first experience in a life and death situation.”.

Leinn began to look at the two young men who were still standing and looked at him tensely, then at the small creatures beside them.

“Rakun?” leinn said as he examined the furry beast

“Oh yes, they managed to make a Contract with the members of the Raccoon Beast group. Although they are still Rank D Beast”

“Krrr...”

Kurt explained after hearing the question. He had also noticed the white Beast that was beside Leinn, thinking it was his Contracted Beast.

“How about you? Your Contracted Beast looks pretty strong”

Kurt looked at his large muscles in more detail, then found that this Beast looks more like a mini gorilla than a monkey. He predicted these Beasts at the peak of Rank C or the beginning of Rank B.

“Hm? You mean Basalt?”

Leinn pointed at the small Gorilla Beast beside him.

“He is not a Contracted Beast-ku”

“...What?”

Leinn recalled how Mint called Basalt before.

The four teenagers jumped in shock after hearing that, and they began to step back to take some distance.

Kurt put on a serious face and started talking to Leinn again, this time in a more serious tone.

“...you brought a wild Beast to the camp? Who allowed that?”

“Your sister?”

“Pfft...! Ka-“ Kurt opens his mouth shut, out of words.

Leinn was quite amused at the sight of that attractive expression. He had not expected the young man before him to react that well.

Kurt began to calm down and looked back at Leinn.

“...my sister?”

“Yups. Bart and Isaac have given their consent”

“I-Isaac..?”

His shock had already turned into awe, seeing the young man in front of him calling Professor Isaac like that. He sighed and pointed at Basalt.

“So? You completed the first test without making Contract?”

“No? Of course I made Contract”

Before he could ask his point Leinn had already extended his right hand to Basalt and a wisp of water jumped up and landed on that hand.

Kurt realized the identity of the creature.

“I-it..”.

“This is Clear, Contracted Beast-ku”

“S-slime?”

“Kyuu?”

Clear only let out a puzzled voice while climbing Leinn, stopping above his head.

Kurt looked at the Rank E Beast and looked back at Leinn.

“Huh?”

“So, what are you doing in that forest?”

Leinn continued to continue the conversation just like that regardless of the confused expression in front of him.

Kurt finally let go of his curiosity and began to explain the events after they separated.

Some time after he and Aura went after Rufus, the two young men finally regained consciousness before being able to be taken out of the forest. Seeing that their wounds had already disappeared without a trace, they chose to continue the test.

The two runaway youths finally made their way back into the forest to see the situation and finally the four of them met again. After a long apology and a tearful face from the two of them, the four of them finally made up.

“”Thank you for saving us!””

The two teenagers finally realize the identity of the young man in front of them, it turns out he was the one who saved them from the siege of the Giant Tarantula.

The other two teenagers started to step forward and bowed their heads at Leinn.

““Force us!””

Leinn looked at the two heads in front of him. One of them continued his sentence.

“And thank you for saving our friend!”

“... will you guys do that again?” the question came out like a cold whisper.

The two of them immediately raised their heads and looked at Leinn's eyes.

“”NO!””

The sound of almost screaming came out of their mouths. They recalled what happened after Leinn left them, in the middle of the forest and outside the Giant Tarantula's lair.

After their fear of Leinn was gone, they realized that the Giant Tarantula that was chasing them was gone too, they realized that they had survived.

But the first feeling that appeared at that moment was not a feeling of relief, but rather a very strong regret. The sharp sentences from Leinn repeated over and over in their heads reminded them of what they had done and without them noticing, they had already dashed back into the Giant Tarantula's lair.

“...”

Leinn saw a strong feeling from the gazes of the two of them, he extended both his hands at them.

“Baik”

“”Eh?””

Leinn patted the shoulders of the two of them and simultaneously. And then they fell down again.

Kurt was surprised to see this and extended his hand to Leinn, before coming to a halt after seeing the relieved expressions on the two young men on who were sitting on the grass.

A wide smile could be seen on their faces.

“Hehe”

A small laugh came out from Leinn who was smiling widely as well.
