Humanity Return
Ch. 118 - Smiling

A long sigh came out from Leinn who was lying on the long chair and he closed his eyes slowly and then stopped moving altogether, letting time pass around him.

His memories of the past month began to fill his head and when he opened his eyes again, the moon had already reached a point high enough in the night sky.

Leinn turned his head to the side and could see the tall clock tower in the middle of the academy already showing the time around 9pm, slightly surprising him.

“...huh”

Looks like he fell asleep.

Leinn then stopped thinking about that and went back to looking at the night sky, which was already filled with an incredible amount of stars. He examined the surroundings as well which had completely no other living beings.

Actually four days ago Leinn accidentally reached this roof while walking around in the afternoon and met a student who was tidying up plants, and, followed by a surprised expression and a pretty interesting run.

Finding the place quite comfortable, Leinn came again the next day and found the same disciple tidying up the plants again, but this time he did not immediately run away.

So the two of them were just there like they were accompanying each other, with one young man lying down receiving the afternoon sunlight and a student.

And the next day, in the afternoon after all the plants had been taken care of and before she came back down, the girl gave Leinn a duplicate key for the door to the roof and ran straight away to leave her.

So now Leinn could enjoy the night sky without being distracted by the people walking through the park in front of the dormitory.

But it seemed like today she had come too late in the afternoon, seeing that the door had already been locked when she came a few hours ago and that girl was nowhere to be seen at all.

“Hah..”.

White steam is formed from the breath, indicating the temperature has decreased dramatically compared to last afternoon.

But Leinn did not look disturbed, and simply stared at the starry sky while accompanied by his thoughts.

This was the first time he could stare at the night sky alone after such a long time, causing some old feelings to start popping up and filling his chest.

There is a feeling of excitement, waiting for something new tomorrow.

There is a sense of doubt, of questioning the truth of this path.

There's a feeling of loneliness

“Hm..?”

It just disappears, replaced by another feeling.

The feeling that drives him to...

“Hum~”

...humming.

A humming sound that started with just as loud as a whisper slowly became louder and filled the empty roof, then began to spread throughout the dormitory building that was already filled with first-year students.

“Tomorrow I will-hm?”

“There's a-?”

The conversation of the dozens of students in the dormitory dining room stopped at once, as a sudden humming sound filled their surroundings.

Then finally all the disciples on the various floors of the building immediately turned their heads around them and found the sound was like it was echoing from all directions around them, without a single clear source direction.

The strangest thing was that humming sound was not really clear whether it was from a man or from a woman, and it made almost all the disciples in the building become frightened.

Guessing that it was the voice of a supernatural being.

“...”

In one of the disciple rooms, Roland opened his eyes after waking up from his meditation due to the sound. His blue eyes began to turn towards the ceiling for a moment, followed by a small smile.

In the other room were two girls who were talking about class earlier that day, then discuss some magic theories that they can create with new views from some of the teaching teachers they have met over the past few days.

The ones were cut off abruptly after a foreign sound filled the room they were in.

“A-what...?”

“What's this sound..”

Aura turned her head around with Adeline who also frowned in confusion.

“Oooh... I haven't heard Leinn's singing for a long time!”

“But who is humming with him..?”

And the girl, Hinata turned her head out the window while showing a puzzled expression.

Some memories appeared in Aura's head like answering Hinata's question, along with the loss of that humming sound.

“...”

Leinn still did not move from his lying position on the long chair on the roof of the dorm but this time, a shocked expression could be seen on his face.

He stared at his right palm for a while, followed by a wide smile that started to appear on his face.

“Haha..”.

A little laugh came out of his mouth.

“Hum~”

Followed by a hum again but this time, only he himself could hear it on the empty roof.

...

Bham

“...hm”

A small voice came out from the mouth of the pink-haired girl who had just closed the thick book in front of her, then shifted it to the edge of her desk.

“It's done..?”

Questions suddenly sounded from beside her, precisely from the blue haired girl who was lying on her bed.

Aura turned towards Adeline who was using her Linker with a serious expression.

“Ya.. it seems like here also no”.

Adeline took her eyes off Linker in her hands and looked back at Aura with a moody expression.

“It looks like their body state... indeed can only wait time?”.

“Ya..”

Aura turned again to the book on the edge of his desk, which read ‘History of Diseases and Weird Conditions Gaiafell Vol. 3’.

She leaned back on her seat while massaging her eyes, realizing that their search was only ensuring that there was nothing they could do but wish Leinn and Roland all the best.

At least after reading dozens of books from the library, even those few books, Aura could make some theories about what might happen to the two young men.

Between one, their bodies became permanently damaged after removing and receiving attacks in their previous fight, so had to receive outside help to get back to their original condition.

It was fortunate that this proved to be wrong when Leinn and Roland could be seen slowly regaining their Mana controlling power and ability while Aura and Adeline were searching for information to heal them.

So the second possibility, they were indeed very badly injured but were still within range of being able to heal their own bodies, and still needed outside help to recover completely.

Or third, they will heal on their own as time goes on.

As their lives turned out to be no longer in danger, Aura and Adeline became more calm and meticulous while searching for that healing information. They also noticed the state of the two young men and during that time they discovered that Leinn and Roland's condition was not at all the same.

The condition in Leinn's body is that all the Mana that goes into the circulation of his body will be instantly lost as if sucked in by something in a few seconds, not allowing him to gather Mana to perform even the lowest level of magic easily.

While Roland's condition was Mana Lightning in his body turned out to be very calm, so calm to the point where he himself had difficulty using it to use even body strengthening magic.

If Leinn's body at that time was like a black hole sucking in everything that entered it, then Roland's body was like a savage beast that was content to go berserk then fell asleep.

Although their current situation is not the same as the first day they regained consciousness.

Adeline kept her Linker and turned towards Aura again.

“So... are we going there now?”
