Humanity Return
Ch. 26 – Mysterious Places

“E-eh, are you sure?” aura said anxiously,

Aura looked worried to let Leinn enter the dark cave alone, seeing many bad things that could happen inside there.

If he had to fight, the cave could have collapsed and locked him in it. In such a situation, his high ability would be meaningless.

Leinn turned his head towards the big Gorilla staring at the dark cave, then returned to Aura.

“It looks like he saw several times lumps of living water coming in and out of the cave at night” Leinn said as he pointed at the Gorilla.

Aura did not reply and simply stared at the face of the young man in front of her.

Leinn could see that obvious feeling of anxiety and smiled, then shook his head.

“Look down, at least I can run if I feel in danger” he said as he walked into the cave.

“O-okay, beware” said Aura slowly.

Aura was actually still a little worried, but knowing Leinn would choose to run instead of fighting was quite a relief given her running speed. He could only wave his hand until all of a sudden, he remembered one important thing.

“L-leinn! If you find a large Slime Core inside this cave, it's the Slime Heart! Don't touch it, because the Slime colony will get out of control and might harm you!”

“OK?”

Leinn recalled this new information and was lost into the darkness of the cave.

Aura stood there looking at the cave with the Wolf Beast already taking a sleeping position and the Gorilla Beast started climbing one of the big trees nearby.

“Leinn..”.

...

The gripping darkness formed in less than a minute, blinding the person who stepped into the cave. An abiding silence appeared after that, accompanying every step of the foot that stopped making a sound.

Blindness and deafness, followed by a loss of feeling of foot touch on the surface of the cave.

All of that gave rise to an extremely terrifying sensation, which would make ordinary people lose their senses...

“Hum...hum..”

But a young man was walking leisurely along the cave while humming softly, of course he could not hear his own voice.

“Hum~”

After walking that deep, Leinn began to understand the reason for Aura's worry.

The girl was not wrong.

“Slime Heart...” thought Leinn while looking around.

Inside the darkness that could not be seen by those ordinary human eyes, hundreds of Slime Beasts were clinging to the walls and ceiling of the cave.

There were at least 100 Slime who could attack him right now, and the only reason they did not do that was the purple mist revolving around his body.

All those Slime Beasts could feel a sense of danger from that thin fog.

“Like what it looks like ya~” said Leinn, managed to break the silence around him.

Simultaneously, he could see a speck of light in the distance. He also regained the sense of touch on his feet and could hear the strange sounds that were caused from the movements of dozens of Slime swiping at each other.

Leinn continued to step on his feet without caring about it and finally reached the light source and made it out into a large enough area. He thought this was the room where the Slime colony was formed...

“Huh..”.

All he found was a room the size of a small town.

Some buildings look only to leave the foundation, and some others look still sturdy. The room was increasingly looking like a city.

But Leinn was watching something else.

“This... quite surprising”

Just as he stepped out of the dark passageway, a mark of the Beast's existence instantly appeared. The number broke through the count of thousands, filling the entire underground city.

It seemed like there was something within the city that was able to conceal the existence of all those Slime Beasts.

“Hm..” Leinn stared at the brightly shining ceiling.

The shining stones did not seem to stick there naturally, something or someone put them there as lighting. Seeing the absence of pillars holding up the ceiling, it seemed that something was preventing the giant cave in front of him from collapsing as well

The place grew mysterious the longer he watched her...

“Welp”

Leinn stopped thinking about it and started walking.

In front of him was a huge staircase that would bring him to the surface of that city, to the middle of the thousands of Slime Beasts that had been aware of its existence.

As Leinn stepped down the steps he also turned around and found several other hallway doors that were already covered by stone ruins. The only way in and out was the hallway where he had come.

Glob glob...

And the passageway was already covered by hundreds of Slime crawling out from within that darkness.

“Hum~”

Leinn finally got to the last rung and started walking through the stone buildings.

The building in the city has what looks like a window hole and an entrance hole without glass or wooden doors.

The style of construction is like when someone tries to make a small building out of clay, it looks quite strange.

Many Slime Beasts began to try to approach him, before sensing the danger from the surrounding purple mist and returning to hide within those stone buildings.

“Haha... here yes?” leinn said with admiration.

Leinn was now standing in front of the biggest building in the city, a giant cubic stone. Hundreds of square-shaped holes two meters wide could be seen on the wall in front of him and he was standing in front of the only largest hole four meters wide and eight meters high.

Without further ado he stepped his foot in there and in just a few seconds, he could see the contents of the building.

“Haha!” leinn's laughter came out from his mouth which had already turned into a wide smile.

The entire building only formed one large room with lighting that was not too bright.

All that was clearly visible was the center of the room, which showed a long staircase to a stone throne supporting a large transparent sphere.

Beneath the long staircase was a giant transparent blob waiting, which began to tremble as the black-haired young man stepped into the room.

The Slime Beast was what made Leinn excited, seeing that he was the strongest being in the city and he looked unhappy when he saw him now.
