"Buuuu?!" There was a kind of trauma that plagued Lisle's feelings. Bert was involved in some of the chaos in his life. And what did he say? "Ba... How did you know I was married?"
Only a handful of people know of Lisle and Mr. Kent's relationship. How did Bert who had long disappeared suddenly return with that knowledge?
Bert chuckles. Her laughing voice created a feeling of pain for Lisle.
"Someone told me the happy news. I'm so proud. My little sister has amazing abilities. Marrying Mr Kent hasn't been a girl's dream?" Bert's voice sounded relaxed as if he had gotten the information through a friend he had accidentally met.
Lisle shook her head between confusion and disbelief. Bert's answer was ambiguous. A buddy? What kind of friend? It must not be a random person to be able to get the news first. Friends, servants and gentlemen of Mr. Kent have been warned to keep his mouth shut.
All righty! Bert knows about his marriage. And now what? What the young man wanted this time by contacting him.
"You... Where have you been all this time? You guys have deceived me." Lisle remembered the cunning of the two children.
There was another little laugh across the line.
"Why didn't you ask your husband? He sent us to that damn place. Thankfully, someone saved us. Otherwise, we no longer know how to survive. You know, the houses there don't even have latrines. People defecate like animals. Cats will cover their litter. But they let the flies wrap around their feces and then alight on the food they eat. My mother couldn't eat for days." There was no angry tone in Bert's voice. He was like someone who had just returned from vacation.
"A, Lisle. How about we meet and talk in person. I have so much to tell you. Mom misses you too. He's very sorry about Mr. Aaron. But the man must have received his own punishment. At the time, we really had to do it. You know, he wanted to take our house and shop. That's all that's left of us."
Lisle knew Kennard had sent his aunt and cousin to a faraway place that wasn't even on any map. He knew it from Ralph. But not once did Lisle bring that up to her husband. They deserve a lesson. Let fate determine the life of the two men. They were lucky enough to be back. Lisle felt a little relieved. At least the punishment was not up to taking his second life.
"Sorry, Bert. I'm not interested in hearing your story. There's nothing else we need to talk about anyway. I'm so glad you guys could come back. Live well. Give my regards to auntie "Lisle doesn't want to meet that loathsome young man. And Aunt Annie, she didn't want to say anything rude to the woman who had nurtured her.
There was a strange silence between the two.
Lisle got up from her lying down and walked towards the open window. The phone is still in his ear. But only silence was heard from the other end.
Later then….
"You still mad at us? Have we not been punished for our wrongdoing? Is my little brother also a vengeful? Didn't you get a lot of benefits? In the end nothing happened to you. You're marrying the richest man in Black Mountain." Bert tried to persuade. Yeah, of course you are. Were it not for those who had trapped Lisle, Mr. Kent would not have intervened and saved the girl.
In a luxurious apartment, in his large room, Bert pulls his back to the back of the sofa. The corner of his lips lifted slightly. He had not expected his cousin's sister to now become smarter than before. Only, he knew Lisle was soft-hearted. And it's a girl's weakness that she'll take advantage of.
"You sure you don't want to see us? Don't you want to fix this broken kinship. Do you remember how your mom and dad looked? Do you want to know a secret?" Bert knew Lisle would definitely be interested in hearing that.
"What do you mean?" Lisle felt Bert wanted her to second-guess. Lisle's parents' home they left behind on the night of the accident has been robbed and burned to the ground. There's nothing left. Not even a piece of photo that can be a reminder of the appearance of both parents.
"I've seen pictures of them in the closet at home…."
"No way!" Lisle did not believe as well as doubted her belief. It could have been an old photograph of her parents before she was born. After all, the photo remains valuable. "What... do you want to blackmail me? You want money?"
Bert in his seat, wide open. He felt that Lisle's words were very funny. "The idea is not bad. But right now I don't have to think about such a small thing anymore. That's the past. I really want us to make things better like family. You know, there's another secret?" The young man leaned forward as if his interlocutor was really in front of him.
I don't know why Lisle was nervous on her own. What else would Bert say? A secret? What other secrets? But the girl said nothing. He just kept waiting.
"You remember that birthday present your parents gave you that night? I saw him in the same place. Maybe somebody picked it up and gave it to my mom…."
Lisle's tears are pacifying. The gift was the last thing his parents gave him. He had been thinking about it for a long time and thought that it might have been thrown somewhere or even smashed to pieces in the accident. No one's gonna care about it. People will put the safety of the victims first.
"You lied. You don't know what you're saying. How do you know about the gift…." Lisle's voice almost broke.
"Music box with dancer doll. Believe me, I saw it for myself. You can get it. Gratis. But you have to take it yourself." Bert's voice suddenly became full of pressure.
Thas right. Shortly before the accident, her mother, who was sitting in front of her father, held out a gift box. Lisle who was invited to dinner that night to celebrate her birthday who I can't wait to see the contents of her card. The girl suffocated happily as soon as she saw the music box inside.
"I. I can't. Ken wouldn't like it if he saw me meet you. He'll know…." Lisle explained the reason. It was impossible to go without the supervision of her husband's men. Asking for permission is impossible.
"You can fool them. I'll teach you." Bert almost cheered with the prey that was about to move into the noose.
