Chapter 40. Lisle, you're Making Wretched People

“I have no more interests there, Thomas..” Lisle somehow felt her heart ache.

“Nona, here it becomes very gloomy once Miss leaves. Master's face always looks like it wants to kill people.” Thomas tells.

That has nothing to do with me, right? It could have been that Mr. Kent was being angered by something else. Lisle muttered in the heart.

“Maybe you have a problem with his business..” Lisle proposed a reason.

“No, Miss. You're after the Caldwell family. He was with Steve last night in the study. When I delivered the drink, I heard Mr. Kent say that in a few hours the Caldwell family would be destroyed.”

“A... What did you say? The Caldwell family?” Lisle suddenly felt her heart jump. Steve gave him a warning. Does this have anything to do with it? How could Mr Kent connect Lisle with that family?

“Nona, does Miss have a relationship with Ralph Caldwell? It seems like the master is very angry at that person. The master said, Miss would not have left had it not been for that man..” Thomas said slowly.

Lisle. “No. Of course not...” His head became dizzy imagining the bad things that would befall the Caldwell family. Is it really caused by him?

“Thomas, I hope what you said is not true. I really don't want anyone to be fucked because of me. Thinking about how it felt doesn't make sense. I'm a nobody to Mr. Kent. There is no way Mr. Kent would bother to take care of such a small thing.”.

There was a heavy sigh coming from the end of the joint. Thomas ends the connection after not knowing what to say to deflect Lisle's overly straight and innocent mind.

All day Lisle was feeling restless in her room. He ate breakfast and lay back down. The chaotic thought made Lisle reluctant to do anything.

The afternoon Celine appeared startling Lisle. He said he took a day off from his night job.

“So I met Ralph. He's askingyou. You really don't have any relationship with him?” Celine is a third person who doubts the relationship between Lisle and Ralph.

“Yes god, Celine. I told you a few times we were just friends. That's not too familiar either. We've spoken several times.” Lisle tried to convince.

“But it seems Ralph likes you..” Celine recalled Ralph's gaze on Lisle, a gaze filled with love.

“Do everyone who likes me have a relationship with me?” Lisle was tired of making her best friend believe.

Lisle sighed sadly. Covered both palms to the face. So it looks like this really has something to do with him. How did Mr Kent attack the family because of him? If it wasn't for that ridiculous deal, maybe Lisle would have been flattered, but since she knew Mr. Kent was just showing her high self-esteem, Lisle felt this was outrageous.

“Celine, I want to tell you something. I don't know if you'll believe it. Were it not for this incident, I would definitely never have told you about it until anytime.” Lisle decided to tell Celine everything.

Celine looked at Lisle with an inescapable curiosity from her face. He thought, now is the time that all the things that stuck up his mind about his best friend will be revealed. “I will listen and I will believe anything you say. Aren't we friends. Fellow friends should trust each other..”.

But when Lisle starts telling her about her first meeting with Mr. Kent and subsequent meetings until Lisle stays at the man's house, Celine almost accuses the girl of hallucinating. Lisle and lord Kent, it's like the earth and the boundless sky. The two are differences that are created to make life colorful, but not to put together....

“Ralph. He said he liked me and he was very stubborn to want to know everything. Finally he found out the lies Mr. Kent had made to make me stay with him. So I left Palm Garden and came back here. Steve, the assistant masters of Kent and Thomas, the butler at Mr. Kent's house, warned me. They said if I didn't come back, Mr. Kent would do something to the Caldwells. I couldn't believe it because I didn't feel like I had any relationship with Ralph. But today, it feels right. The rich are selfish. Mr. Kent as a person who is always respected and feared by all residents of Black Mountain certainly does not like his possessions disturbed..” When saying about her ‘ belongings’ it, Lisle's heart ached.

“Celine, what should I do. If what happened to the Caldwell family had anything to do with me, I would feel very guilty. I won't be able to endure this for the rest of my life.”.

“But what can you do to fix it? Lisle, even if you return, the Caldwell family company is already bankrupt.” Celine had a headache hearing of the problem Lisle was facing. “According to you, will mister kent be able to restore everything again as before?” Lisle looked at Celine with dewy eyes. He is not willing if Ralph and his family have to bear the consequences of the mistake he, Lisle, did.

“If he could, I'm not sure he'd want to do it. Besides, Mr. Kent has found Ralph guilty of meddling in his affairs. Ralph and his family are indeed unlucky,” said Celine hesitated.

“It seems there is no other way. I should try it. I... I will return to that house..” Lisle felt her whole body go limp. Thinking back to the Palm Garden terrified him. “I thought, I'll be back this afternoon too. The sooner the better. Maybe there's still something I can do to help Ralph.”.

The sky was already dark when the taxi that drove Lisle arrived at the Palm Garden. Thomas who opened the door didn't expect to see the girl again in this house.

“Nona, I don't think Miss wants to come here anymore.” Thomas looks happy.
