If Tonight is My Last Day

After much deliberation and debate, it was finally decided that Kalea should return to live in Mama's house for the safety and security of herself and their future child.

This morning, on the last day of the week he requested (which Kalea had abolished and extended for the next few months), Gavin brought Kalea back to his parents' house.

They were greeted with joyful cheers by all members of the family, including Mother and Papa Jonathan who had somehow arrived at Mama's house first, gavin has not informed his parents at all.

"Be careful" Mama moved swiftly to help Kalea get out of the car. Kalea's arms were held tightly, her waist was embraced and she was led to walk into the house.

"Be careful" said Mama again when they had to climb two steps to get to the front porch.

Kalea let out a breath of air, feeling that Mama's treatment was too excessive. Even when she had dengue fever some time ago, Mama did not act like this.

"Heart-Ha-"

"Ma," cut Kalea with great emphasis before Mama continued her speech.

"Kalea's not sick anymore or anything, so please just be normal." He said, which only made Mama cluck then still led him to enter the house with the same alert attitude.

In the living room, there was already Mother and Papa Jonathan sitting next to each other on the sofa, while Papa sat on the single sofa and immediately got up as soon as Kalea appeared from behind the door.

"Welcome home again, Baby." Papa welcomed Kalea by stretching his arms wide and Kalea responded by hugging Papa for a moment.

"I miss you, Baby." Whisper Papa before releasing his embrace.

Kalea just turned the eyeball lazily. Because, Papa will not behave like this if he does not want to. Kalea was sure, inside the man's head there must have been many strange requests ready to be made to him.

"Gavin went straight up, yes" said Gavin who had just emerged from the front door with two large suitcases.

He only glanced at each member of the family and immediately rushed up to the second floor as soon as everyone who was there nodded their heads.

"How many months is it, Kal?" ask Mother, after Kalea sat next to her.

"The doctor said it's been six weeks, Bun."

"Have you started feeling nauseous?" ask Mother again.

Kalea nodded. "It was just every morning, now almost every time the nausea suddenly appears."

"It's okay, it's natural. Later after the age of your womb enters the second trimester, nausea will disappear really. The important thing is not to be unable to eat anything, so that the baby can still get good nutrition."

Kalea mangosteen only. He received more input from Mother and also Mama who alternately spoke. However, his ears did not fully listen to their words. His brain also did not maximally record and digest the information he received.

Because at this time, Kalea was actually thought of by something else. About how the two families would feel if they knew that his marriage to Gavin would end only shortly after the child was born into the world.

...****************...

Mother and Papa Jonathan resigned after dinner. Over the course of a day, Kalea was forced to listen to numerous tips and prohibitions. What she can do and what she should avoid during pregnancy.

The voices she heard endlessly from the people around made Kalea's head feel heavy. So, after everyone got up from the dining table, Kalea asked for permission to be alone in the backyard. Enjoy the breeze accompanied by the moonlight that looks beautiful decorate the deep night sky.

For a few minutes, all Kalea did was shut up. Pulling and breathing out slowly to calm the annoying rumble in his chest. Insist on throwing down all fret, and force all good thoughts to come across the head. Trying to tell himself that everything will be fine.

"Would you like to eat something?" asked Gavin, who had just emerged from behind the wide-open back door.

Kalea turned her head for a while, then returned her gaze to the swimming pool where the water rippled in the wind.

"Nothing" he said, a little later than he should have said.

Gavin took a sitting position next to him. He suddenly grabbed his hand and grasped it tightly, making him flinch a little because he was not ready for Gavin's sudden movements.

"Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see this child growing inside you" Gavin said, looking straight at Kalea's stomach.

"I'm sorry, because I made you have an unpleasant pregnancy because of the problems I caused. But, Kal ... " Gavin paused for a bit, only to raise his gaze and nailed to face Kalea who was now throwing a gaze that was too difficult to interpret towards him.

"I want you to know one thing. I never lied about how I felt about you. I love you even more than you might have ever thought. It never occurred to me at all that marrying you was a compulsion, much less just a tool to maintain whatever position you once accused me of."

"Starting with you before I finish with Irina is indeed a mistake, I admit it. But, Kal ... " Gavin tightened his grip on Kalea's hand, looking her in the eyes deeper and closer.

"If I had to go back in time, and be told to choose whether to marry you or not, I would stubbornly choose to remain married to you. Because from the beginning, I never lied when I said I just wanted you."

"You know everything you're saying to me right now won't have any effect on my decision, right?" kalea asked, moving slowly releasing her hands from Gavin's grasp.

"All I know is, you're not done with Irina. You ... even still meet and make out with him when we are legally husband and wife. Which means, you cheated on me."

Gavin nodded, forcing a smile to cover up the wound in his heart that almost shattered him into small, insignificant grains.

"I know, Kal." He said, very slowly.

"I'm saying this to you not to make you change your decision, but I just want you to know that I really love you. Because ... " Gavin paused again, because suddenly, his throat felt choked. Like there is a large rock that is coagulated into his mouth and left in the throat, clogging the flow of oxygen to the lungs so that it almost makes him die out of breath.

Then, after painstakingly unraveling the blockage, Gavin continued.

"Because if this is my last night in the world, I can at least walk away quietly after letting you know my true feelings."

"You can't die that fast, Gavin. No, after you destroyed me. You must live a long life to see me heal and rise from the wounds you have inflicted."

One tear fell after Kalea finished her sentence. Then, when the other drops followed, he immediately got up from his seat and rushed into the house. Trying not to let anyone see her as she sneaks up to her room.

While Gavin, still glued to his place. Sleeking the pain felt in his chest, little by little until the time came where the pain gathered into one until ready to kill him in an instant.
