Day six, the nausea of Kalea worsened. Now, not only in the morning did he feel agonizing nausea, but all day long. There was hardly a time where he could live his day quietly.
Finally, he gave up. Accepting Gavin's decision to drag him to the hospital with chest roominess. Only, he made a condition that Gavin would not tell their parents about this. Kalea didn't want to make the parents worry.
Gavin and Kalea kept quiet, waiting for doctors to present their analysis of what Kalea was suffering from. Several times Kalea glanced at Gavin who could not keep quiet. Seemed uneasy in his seat, as if the man was the one who was sick and agitated waiting for the verdict to be delivered by the doctor.
After a few minutes of waiting, the female doctor in front of them finally took her eyes off the papers she was holding, then looked at them in turn. His face brightened, his smile splashed. It looks strange for the size of a doctor who will pass the results of the examination to his patients.
"Where, doc? What is my wife sick?" ask Gavin, because the doctor did not open his voice.
"Bu Kalea is not sick, Mr. Gavin," the doctor said with a smile.
Gavin's forehead wrinkled at the answer. If it doesn't hurt, why is Kalea nausea and can't even eat anything for the past few days?
Seeing Gavin's confusion, the doctor smiled even more. Then, all of a sudden he reached out to Gavin, making the man even more unable to understand what was really going on.
Gavin was fixated long enough to look at the doctor's hand, increasingly wondering because the doctor's smile never faded and the outstretched hand was not immediately pulled back even though he did not welcome it.
"Congratulations, Mr. Gavin, your positive wife is pregnant. Now, the age of the womb has entered six weeks." Said the doctor.
Gavin is still tight-lipped, his brain still not finished processing the information. For some reason, his brain has become slower lately.
Knowing that his helping hand would not be welcomed, the doctor pulled back his hand, but his smile was still perfectly offended. He turned his head towards Kalea, smiling amusedly as he found that the woman looked no less confused than Gavin.
They both still look young, maybe the news of this pregnancy is enough to surprise them because this is not in their plans.
Satisfied at Kalea, the doctor looked back at Gavin.
"The nausea experienced by Bu Kalea is a natural thing for pregnant women in the first trimester of pregnancy, sir. I'll prescribe vitamins to help Ms. Kalea get through this phase, yeah." Obviously the doctor, then he started moving his fingers writing something down on the paper.
While Gavin and Kalea are still silent because they are still equally unfinished to process the information they receive.
Then, when their brains finished completing the task, they simultaneously turned their heads and looked at each other. It was as if he was chatting through the eyes that only the two of them could understand.
...****************...
"I'm pregnant?" kalea asked when they just got in the car.
"Yes, you're pregnant."
As if still in disbelief, Kalea lowered her gaze, looking at her own stomach. The thing is, his stomach still looks flat, so it felt a little strange when he was told that there was one life growing inside there.
"I mean, in here, is anyone alive?" Kalea asked that while continuing to look at her stomach. Not only looked at, now he also rubbed his own stomach with a very slow movement.
"Yes, Boo. Our baby lives there, you carry our baby in your tummy." Gavin stared at Kalea's stomach.
Right now, his feelings were truly undefined. He's happy, very happy. Because he will be a father, moreover, he will be a father to the daughter of the woman he once loved. Somehow Gavin thanked God for being willing to give him the opportunity to feel this happiness, when their household was swayed in the storm.
Indeed, nothing is certain, but thanks to the presence of children in the stomach of Kalea today, at least Gavin's hope to be able to maintain his marriage with Kalea increased more.
Kalea herself was confused. Too many feelings were raging in his chest, so he did not know which one he should validate.
She never imagined getting married young, but from a long time ago, she always wanted to be a mother. So, this news certainly made him happy, because in the end he could feel how a small creature began to grow little by little in his stomach.
Finally, she could feel what Mama had always told her, about how happy he was when he realized that now he had to do everything for two people living in one body for the next nine months.
But on the other hand, he felt sad. The arrival of this baby was not on time. Why would she have to come when her marriage to Gavin was on the verge of breaking down, and she was already almost certain of her decision to leave Gavin?
Or is this how God works? Could this be an answer from God, to every question he asked in the middle of the night for these few days? Could it be that God deliberately presented this child, so that he would step into the chest giving Gavin a second chance after what happened?
"So, I'll come a mother?" muttered. It was not directed at Gavin, but the man replied in a soft voice that miraculously made Kalea willingly turn her head.
For the first time in a long time, Kalea finds herself lost in the dark bead of Gavin, who is now staring at her. From there, Kalea noticed a new glimmer of hope, which seemed to tell her that life was still fine and she could still start everything over.
Then unknowingly, Kalea shed tears. Whether happy tears or tears of sadness, because until when his body was grabbed by Gavin and hugged tightly, Kalea still could not validate the feeling of what she was feeling right now.
His head was back in a storm, his heart was shriveled. So all Kalea can do is resign when Gavin's embrace gets tighter, and the scent of the man's perfume broke through his sense of smell so much that it began to display one by one the sweet memories that happened between them in the space of a few months.
The memories had successfully invaded the head of Kalea in just a short time, making it lulled, and as if forgetting that his heart had been so broken because of the actions of the man who now hugged him tightly.
