Me and Merry knew a long time ago, before I liked Arnold, so he knew all my PINs. The PIN I chose was the date of my meeting with Arnold.
31122008 (31 December 2008).
The journey home was shorter than when we went to the village. I'm so tired, my body feels like it's all crumbled.
Upon arriving home, I immediately threw myself on the sofa because of dizziness. I hope Merry is okay on the way home. Just breaking down, the tone of my phone rang. There's an unknown number calling me. Out of curiosity, I shifted the green button to lift it.
"Hello, former Lady Setyawan." Said a woman whose voice was familiar to my ears.
'Vioh.'
I didn't answer anything, I just wanted to hear what he was going to say to me.
"What a pity on you, Veli. Your husband will soon marry me, your status will change in a few months. But I've been taking your status since I came back from abroad. So from now on I'm Arnold's wife not you. I am Lady Setyawan, not you anymore."
I kept quiet, really lazy to say anything to her.
Throughout the conversation Viona kept talking alone, and I was just a listener. He just kept showing off his prowess to me over Arnold.
"You know, 3 years ago I was supposed to be Arnold's wife, and now I'm just taking back what's supposed to be my right." Viona said again.
My ears were getting hot, making me finally respond.
"Have finished? Now it's my turn to speak. I don't care if you want to get married, be Arnold's wife, or be Miss Setyawan. Go ahead, take that position. I gave it to you for free. Take my old stuff. And one more thing, you and Arnold are also still not married, your father and Papa Arnold also still do not approve of you.”
"Veli......"
Tutt....!!!
I immediately disconnected the phone call. Being lazy to ignore him again I blocked his number so he wouldn't bother me anymore.
I stood up and rushed to the beach, where Arnold proposed to me first.
The sun had not dimmed when I arrived at the shore, though the founder was no longer stinging like when he first threw a seat on a wooden bench, under a tree on the side of the road facing directly towards the direction of the sun's origin.
Friendly waves escort the catfish and the ripples that chase the edge. There Arnold once knelt before me, giving me a ring as a sign he asked me to. I thought he loved me too, so I took it for granted because my heart was too happy.
I'm still here when the light is asleep. Then, the sunlight bends in the night. The light of the lamp that bounced on the face of the sea water glazed brightly that appeared drowned in the black pagut.
On the beach side across the road that is still overgrown with mangroves, the sound of cars roaring ahead of each other, but upright I was still frozen in doubt. Then quietly, only the moans of the impatient wind blew through the dark atmosphere.
The night was getting bigger, my head was getting heavier. I pulled my footsteps home. Not yet had the wheel of my car quietly drove, the sound of the phone disperse my concentration.
Arnold's name was real on my phone. I pulled my car over on the side of the road.
"Oh, Velicia, I told you I wanted to date you." Arnold.
I was actually lazy to listen to her words, because I did not want to be pitied by her. Arnold remained adamant.
I recall the deal I said to Arnold back then, that he wouldn't have met Viona again for the 2 months before the wedding to focus on going out with me.
"Well, if you mean it. So you have to do it on 2 conditions. First, don't bring Viona's name out in front of me, including you can't see Viona for 2 months unless I bring her up; second, and 2nd, we can't have sex." I filed a requirement.
My illness is getting worse and I won't be able to bear the pain of having sex with Arnold.
"Alright, I agree to your terms." Reply Arnold.
I had no idea Arnold was finally doing what I wanted. I've even been resigned to the state of my relationship with Arnold. And now he wants to give me a chance to be the woman he loves even if it is less than 90 days.
A few days later, after my agreement, Arnold never showed up again. Not even giving news, especially to meet me.
'Is Arnold just playing me?'
I walked downstairs playing the piano and started playing Sleep in the deep sea. My feelings melted into the rhythm of the piano I played myself. My tears are unbearable.
The shadow of Mama and Papa dancing in front of me. Especially Mama, it seems like Mama is now sitting next to me, teaching me to play the piano.
I closed my eyes, and now I saw Arnold smiling at me. His growing age did not even make him look older. His jaw looks more and more sturdy, he looks more mature and very handsome.
For a while I was silent, then got up from my seat and headed for the kitchen. Opening the fridge takes some berries and starts making smoothies.
With a slow step, I returned to the room with the smoothie I had made, picked up a book about cancer's survival and sat by the window.
I began to read from one sheet to another, while occasionally drinking the smoothies I made.
My eyes continued to focus on each line of words arranged in the book.
'Can I survive?' my thinking.
In the book, it tells of a woman who had the same cancer as me. However, he can break the verdict given by the doctor. Doctors said he was only able to survive six months. However, with his great spirit, he got up and tried to fight his illness until it could last longer, up to two years.
But a few days ago, I got the news that the author of the book eventually had to give up also with the malignant cancer that attacked his body.
This means that this disease is difficult to cure. But at the very least, with good care we can last longer than the verdict by the doctor.
"Am I among the people given the opportunity?"
I went back to daydreaming. Although in the end my age only lasted less than 90 days. But, at least I wish I could spend the rest of my life with the person I love so much.
Suddenly my eyes caught the figure of Arnold standing in front of the house. He was also looking at me. Then my phone rings. I saw him holding a cell phone in his ear, giving a code for me to pick up the phone from him.
'Do I have to lift it?'
With an uncertain feeling I finally picked up the phone from him and said,
“What's looking for me?”
