Kevin tries to find Jeany to explain. But as long as he looked, the girl was no longer visible. Finally he walked to the car park because he thought the girl was coming home to his boarding house. Better explain it there, he thought.
Meanwhile, Jeany walked home very quickly. He deliberately avoided Kevin. Not out of anger, but out of embarrassment for overreacting to Kevin's words. If you know this better, you do not have to go to campus, he regretted. Because he wanted to return the textbook he borrowed from the campus library, he so heard things he did not want to hear.
Jeany knew she shouldn't be angry, because Kevin was just telling the facts. He himself has heard it often. Stiff, not fun, boring. The label had been pinned on him even since high school, and he had already accepted his lack of self that was not good at getting along.
He can pretend not to listen. I don't know what makes Jeany can't help herself, as if part of her wants Kevin to know that she feels hurt because of the words of the young man who forced her to be his best friend.
After arriving at the boarding house, Jeany went into her room and immediately laid herself on the bed without changing her clothes first. He just wanted to calm his chaotic mind. He really felt embarrassed. Moreover, the incident was witnessed by Randy. He could hear Randy's laughing voice and it clouded his mood.
The sound of a cellphone ringtone made Jeany almost sleep in the middle of her daydream. He hesitated for a moment before picking up his phone, as it was Kevin's name that appeared as the caller.
"Hello, Vin."
"Hello, Jean. You're in kos?"
"Vin, I'm sorry about that. I never say." Jeany spoke at the core of the issue.
"Exit now. I'm in front of kos lo."
I don't know why Jeany felt Kevin's tone this time was a bit different. Usually the man always spoke warmly, but the last sentence made Jeany feel a little afraid. Not wanting to make Kevin wait for long, he rushed out to open the fence for the young man.
"Jean, I never thought you were stiff and not fun. I was talking so that Randy wouldn't sneak a bite out of you" Kevin explained to Jeany after they sat on the porch of the boarding house.
Jeany shakes. "Lo just talks about reality. I shouldn't be offended."
"Jeany, listen!" Out of panic, Kevin involuntarily raised his voice. He took a breath and exhaled, then said softly, "gue just wants to protect you from Randy."
"Because?"
"Because he's a playboy. He's never been serious about women."
"You mean seriously what about that woman?"
"Like me against Stevi."
Suddenly Jeany felt a strange feeling she could not explain. It was as if his heart was squeezed by an invisible hand.
"Lo believe me right?" Kevin wanted to make sure he saw that the girl was silent.
Jeany wanted to laugh. How could he trust Kevin? The girl was sure that in Kevin's subconscious, the young man did think of Jeany as what he had told Randy. Otherwise, it would be impossible for those words to be spoken just from his lips.
"Gue can't believe it. But I know you didn't mean it badly. We better forget about this." Jeany never pretended to say it. The words that came out of his mouth always expressed his true heart.
Kevin sighed. He could not argue with Jeany. To be honest, he was also not sure what his views were like for the girl because he had never thought about Jeany. Before that night, he had never considered the girl important.
Wait for. Does this mean he's important to me now? Engga. I just want to get rid of the guilt. That's aja. Kevin tried to strengthen his heart.
"Old buildings are less of a fan."
Kevin watches Jeany's boarding house. It is true that the building looks old and poorly maintained with paint peeling on almost all wall surfaces. The garden in the front yard was filled with weeds. The ceiling of the terrace also looks torn from the leak of rainwater.
"But you're at home here?" ask Kevin who feels weird because Jeany wants to live in a place like that. He himself was not sure he could live there.
"L rent is cheap" Jeany replied as is. The girl said it as if it was normal for her, but Kevin could see the change in Jeany's countenance.
"Eh, what if I see you? I am the treat. From yesterday I really wanted to watch but no one was calm," invited Kevin who suddenly remembered Randy's suggestion to invite Jeany, after seeing the girl's face turned sad.
Jeany was surprised Kevin asked her to watch. There had never been a man to take her down the street before. In addition to not being good at getting along, Jeany also never gave hope to a few men who approached her even though it was limited to responding to a conversation message. To him it was the same as playing with their feelings.
But Jeany himself did not understand why now he seemed to give Kevin the opportunity to approach him.
As friends. Yes as a friend.
Those two words kept Jeany instilling in her mind. He watched Kevin for a moment. The young man looked good and did not pretend to her. There is no harm in going to watch as friends. However, this should not interfere with Kevin's relationship with the lover.
"A real girl can go see you?" ask Kevin.
The young man gave an incomprehensible look. "Why can't you?"
"Lo told you Stevi?"
"Not yet, but I'm sure he doesn't mind. He knows you're my best friend."
"You better say it first. I don't want any misunderstanding."
Kevin felt Jeany's advice had a point. He called Stevi's phone. He made three calls but Stevi did not pick him up. Kevin finally sent a Whatsapp message to his girlfriend.
"Gue has WA him. Yuk left," take Kevin impatient because finally his desire to watch a favorite movie materialized as well. He forgets that his original goal was to cheer up Jeany.
"Wait, I'll get the bag first."
Jeany is no less excited than Kevin. He really likes to watch. I don't know when the last time was when he went to the movies. Economic limitations make it must provide clear boundaries between needs and desires. But Jeany is not a woman who likes to pretend. He will not say he does not want to, if he really wants. This time there is a chance to watch for free, of course he should not waste it.
The second time Jeany sat in Kevin's car, there wasn't much they could talk about. Friends are still status. They are still two strangers who seem forced to get to know each other because of something that happens beyond their will. Secretly the girl stole a glance at Kevin.
The figure of Kevin who is concentrating on driving looks so charming. Kevin's face included a smooth for a male size. As if he knew he was being noticed, the young man turned to Jeany. He smiled at Jeany who immediately turned her face away.
"Don't worry about me continuing to fall in love."
"Ge-er!"
Kevin laughed at Jeany's sniffling answer. He was only joking, not at all thinking the stiff girl would one day fall for him.
