The small car driven by Vivian moved steadily towards the south of Surabaya. The journey was not too long, but still the car had to stop several times when it was met with traffic jams and traffic lights that turned red.
"Ah shit!" vivian's curse hit the handlebars when his car was stuck in a long queue on a narrow road to the border between cities. Hungry stomach and chaotic thoughts also added to his frustration. The traffic jam was only unraveled after Vivian passed through a fork in the crossroads of vehicles from inside and outside Surabaya.
The large supermarket on the left side to mark Vivian has arrived at the intended residential area. Shortly thereafter his metallic white car passed under the archway that read "Welcome to Sidoarjo Regency". From there, it only took her not ten minutes to reach Vivian's parents' house.
Sidoarjo is no less crowded with Surabaya. The drastic increase in population makes the need for shelter also increases rapidly. Vivian witnessed how small-scale housing began to mushroom in her hometown, with prices that could not be said to be affordable by some people.
Vivian calls it small-scale housing because one housing complex contains only a few dozen houses. Land limitations also make many housing developers take location in a place far enough access to the entrance from the highway.
Lucky Vivian's parents' house which is an old housing located very close to the highway. At High School, Vivian is enough to walk about two hundred meters, then cross the road and take public transportation to get to school.
Vivian cars enter the oldest cluster in the housing. He opened the window of the car to greet the security guard standing guard at the entrance of the cluster. The guard smiled kindly at him.
Vivian then turned her car into the second alley on the left side of the road. His heartbeat was felt when he saw Revan's car parked in front of the fence. But soon his forehead creased. Since when has the shape of the fence changed? And since when did the big mango tree in the yard of the house cut down, changed a garden with a beautiful light on?
Vivian almost thought she had entered the wrong alley if she did not see the shape of the house on her left right that had not changed at all. That's his home. The parked car also belonged to her husband. Vivian was convinced after seeing her unique number plate.
The narrow size of the alley makes a large car Revan eat half the body of the road. Vivian parked her vehicle behind her husband's car, making the ten-meter-wide house almost completely closed and leaving only access to the fence.
Having just entered a house that she had not lived in since marriage, Vivian was greeted with a view of various foods and snacks arranged luxurious on the table. The number is very large, rather excessive for a meal that is only attended by a few friends and neighbors.
"Night" said Vivian to everyone sitting on the sofa in the living room. There were only three guests left: two neighbors named Aunt Lusi and Aunt Ani, and Aunt Irene, the mother's best friend. There is no sight of Revan's whereabouts there, nor is David, the only younger brother Vivian believes is dating outside.
Mama Vivian immediately got up from the sofa and welcomed her daughter's arrival with a big smile. "Mama's proud son finally came too. Too busy, kid?"
"Hmm," replied Vivian flatly. But there was relief in his heart. Looking at the attitude of the mother, it seems like Revan has not told their household matters.
Smiling proudly, mama Vivian explained the reason for her daughter's delay to the remaining guests. "Some of my son is the manager in his office. That's how if you have a high position, a lot of it is taken care of!"
"Relax, Ma," said Vivian because she did not like her mother exaggerating the story.
"Have a husband a lot of money is still tired of working to, Vi?" aunty Lusi asked in a reproachful tone.
"Yes to popo, Lus. My son has always been independent of his people. Marriage is still good at making money."
Vivian chose not to respond, feeling certain that only spicy words would come out if she opened her mouth. His mood is really not good. "Where's Revan, Ma?" he quickly wanted to escape from the uncomfortable situation.
"Talk to your dad in the back. Yes, you have brought your husband to eat first. Last time you told me to eat, she said she'd wait for you."
Now Vivian realized that a heavy voice with a loud laughter of her papa was heard to where she was standing at this time. He immediately walked towards the dining room with quick steps.
Not yet out of surprise, a feeling of disgust arises after smelling the smell of cigarette smoke that makes the sense of smell short. A few months did not come home to make Vivian forget that her father was a heavy smoker. He looked at the two men sitting in the dining room.
Correct guess. His father was sitting opposite Revan, engrossed in conversation with a lit cigarette in his hand and mouth that kept puffing cigarette smoke right into his daughter-in-law's face. Empty beer bottles were strewn across the table. Vivian wanted to scream in anger right then and there. Revan's shoulder. "Let's go home now" he said directly to the core.
"When did you come home?" revan asked. He already knew Vivian's relationship with both parents was not too good, but it shouldn't be too bad either to not make time for small talk.
Papa Vivian knocked on the tip of the cigarette until the ashes fell to the floor. He sucked back the object that made him addicted to it heavily, enjoying the dense smoke that entered his throat and lungs. After the smoke came out of his mouth and floated in the air, the skinny man laughed.
"Smart you are looking for a husband, Vi," she told the princess. "Don't be like your mama regretting marriage to Papa. Your mother used to be good at being betrothed by her parents to rich people, but instead was left for Papa. If Papa knows your mother is pregnant with the child of that person, Papa also does not want to marry your mother," he continued, then again laughed amusedly as if mocking his own stupidity.
Vivian's body trembled faintly hearing the papa's words. When not drunk, the man doesn't talk much. But under the influence of alcohol, the resentment of the man's heart will just come out of his mouth and continue to be repeated to anyone who is the interlocutor.
And tonight's situation is one that Vivian always desperately shunned from the sight of Revan, her perfect husband. "Let's go home" he said again, this time in a more assertive tone.
Understanding the mood of the wife, Revan immediately stood up and said goodbye to his father-in-law. "I'm the same Vivi came home first, Pa. Sorry can not be long because there is still work to be taken care of," he said giving an excuse.
Papa Vivian again laughed hoarsely. "Papa knows Papa knows .... You must not feel at home for long in this narrow house."
Vivian quickly pulled Revan out of the dining room. His chest was getting claustrophobic, not because of cigarette smoke, but because of the anger he had to endure. It was enough Revan witnessed the depravity of his family.
To her mother, Vivian and Revan were only short-sighted. The reason of being busy with work was enough to make the woman understand. Busy working purpose of course to produce rupiah coffers. If his son and daughter-in-law had a lot of money, wouldn't he enjoy it too?
"Be careful on the road, son. Oh yes, thank you, Revan the gift. Mama loves it," said mama Vivian sumringah as she displayed a diamond-studded bracelet on her right wrist, deliberately wanting to envy the people who were there.
"Together, Mother. Later tell me if there's something you like again," replied Revan casually. Vivian glared angrily at him, but did not say anything.
The couple came home in Revan's car, while Vivian's car was taken home by the driver who had driven Revan. Their car had just come out of the alley of Vivian's house when the woman let out her frustration. "You broke our agreement" he said with thinning lips restraining anger.
"Which deal?" Revan asked, deliberately reminding there are many agreements in their married life.
Vivian ignored the satire question. "Why did you give my mom a diamond bracelet?" tanyanya sharp.
"Because I'm capable."
That one sentence instantly opened the lock that shackled Vivian's anger. "Listen yes, the rich are arrogant! Just because you're capable, doesn't mean you can act like you can!"
Revan stopped his car. He gave a murderous look to Vivian.
